  • Morphologic Outcome after Endovascular Treatment of Complicated Type B Aortic Dissection
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. - : Elsevier BV. - 1051-0443 .- 1535-7732. ; 24:12, s. 1826-1833
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PURPOSE:To investigate the long-term morphologic changes of the aorta after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for acute complicated type B aortic dissection and to analyze whether these changes differed between DeBakey class IIIa and IIIb dissections.MATERIALS AND METHODS:During the period 1999-2009, 58 patients with acute complicated type B aortic dissection were treated with TEVAR. Seven patients lacked follow-up data, leaving 51 patients-17 patients with DeBakey IIIa aortic dissection and 34 patients with DeBakey IIIa aortic dissection IIIb-for inclusion in the study. Computed tomography scans performed before and after TEVAR were evaluated. Maximum thoracic and abdominal aortic diameters and diameters of the true lumen and false lumen at the level of the maximum aortic diameter in the thorax and abdomen were analyzed as well as degree of thrombosis of the false lumen.RESULTS:There was an overall significant reduction of the thoracic aortic diameter, increased true lumen diameter, and reduced false lumen diameter (P < .05). Total thrombosis of the false lumen, with or without reintervention, was seen in 53% of all patients, in 41% primarily and in 12% after reintervention. The IIIa group had a higher degree of total false lumen thrombosis. All patients in the IIIb group had total thrombosis of the false lumen along the stent graft.CONCLUSIONS:Long-term follow-up showed favorable aortic remodeling after TEVAR for acute complicated type B aortic dissection. Total thrombosis of the false lumen occurred more often in patients with DeBakey IIIa aortic dissection compared with patients with DeBakey IIIb aortic dissection.

  • Liver embolization with trisacryl gelatin microspheres (embosphere) in patients with neuroendocrine tumors
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Acta Radiologica. - : SAGE Publications. - 0284-1851 .- 1600-0455. ; 48:2, s. 180-185
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PURPOSE: To report our experience of liver embolization with trisacryl gelatin microspheres (Embospheretrade mark) in patients with metastatic neuroendocrine tumors. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifteen patients underwent selective embolization of the right or left hepatic artery with Embosphere. One lobe was embolized in seven patients and both lobes, on separate occasions, in eight patients. Seven patients had midgut carcinoids, two had lung carcinoids, one suffered from a thymic carcinoid, and five had endocrine pancreatic tumors. Eight patients suffered from endocrine symptoms, seven of whom had carcinoid syndrome and one WDHA (watery diarrhea, hypokalemia, achlorhydria) syndrome. RESULTS: Partial radiological response was seen after eight embolizations (in six different patients), stable disease was observed after 13 embolizations (after three of these, necroses occurred), while radiological progression was noted after only two embolizations. Only two patients experienced a biochemical response. Clinical improvement of carcinoid syndrome was observed after five embolizations. There were no major complications. Fever >38 degrees C was seen after all but four embolizations, and urinary tract infections were diagnosed after eight embolizations. CONCLUSION: Selective hepatic artery embolization with Embosphere particles is a safe treatment for patients with metastatic neuroendocrine tumors and may lead to partial radiological response as well as symptomatic improvement of disabling endocrine symptoms.

  • Propositions for refinement of the hybrid surgical technique for treatment of thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Surgery. - 1457-4969 .- 1799-7267. ; 97:2, s. 174-177
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Traditional open repair of thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysms Crawford type II-IV carries a high perioperative risk and mortality. The hybrid technique for combined surgical and endovascular treatment offers an interesting alternative with reduced risk of paraparesis and possibly a reduced mortality rate. Propositions for refinement of this approach are outlined based on a single centre experience.

  • A Digital Swedish–Yiddish/Yiddish–Swedish Dictionary : A Web-Based Dictionary that is also Available Offline
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the EURALI Workshop @LREC2022.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Yiddish is one of the national minority languages of Sweden, and one of the languages for which the Swedish Institute for Language and Folklore is responsible for developing useful language resources. We here describe the web-based version of a Swedish–Yiddish/Yiddish–Swedish dictionary. The single search field of the web-based dictionary is used for incrementally searching all three components of the dictionary entries (the word in Swedish, the word in Yiddish with Hebrew characters and the transliteration in Latin script). When the user accesses the dictionary in an online mode, the dictionary is saved in the web browser, which makes it possible to also use the dictionary offline.

  • A Driving Simulation Platform using Distributed Vehicle Simulators and HLA
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the DSC 2015 Europe. - 9783981309935 ; , s. 123-130
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Modern vehicles are complex systems consisting of an increasing large multitude of components that operate together. While functional verification on individual components is important, it is also important to test components within a driving environment, both from a functional perspective and from a driver perspective. One proven way for testing is vehicle simulators and in this work the main goals have been to increase flexibility and scalability by introducing a distributed driving simulator platform. As an example, consider a workflow where a developer can go from a desktop simulation to an intermediate driving simulator to a high fidelity driving simulator with Hardware-In-the-Loop systems close to a finished vehicle in an easy way. To accomplish this, a distributed simulation architecture was designed and implemented that divides a driving simulator environment into four major entities with well-defined interfaces, using HLA as the method of communication. This platform was evaluated on two aspects, flexibility/scalability and timing performance. Results show that increased flexibility and scalability was achieved when using a distributed simulation platform. It is also shown that latency was only slightly increased when using HLA.

  • Collaborative Thinking with and through Technology : Materials, methods and perspectives
  • 2024
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The rapid development and integration of IoT, AI, and digital twin technologies into work environments create new demands and challenges for organisations, including the need to upskill and prepare their workforces for new technological applications and capabilities. The collaborative design tradition draws upon participatory notions of joint inquiry to help people in the ideation and conception of alternative futures; however, given the novelty and the rapidity of the technological transformations, there is an opportunity to engage people unfamiliar with technology and design in the ideation and conceptualisation of work-oriented improvements using these technologies. This dissertation investigates what dimensions are necessary to support participatory processes for identifying and creating work-oriented improvements with technology and how design practitioners can apply these dimensions to stage these joint inquiry situations. To achieve these aims, explorations of and reflections on design are guided by a research-through-design approach that builds on three collaborative design cases that address real-world situations in a variety of contexts and participants: the joint inquiry processes of factory workers in the ideation, conceptualisation and prototyping of IoT work-oriented improvements; the joint inquiry process of ideation and conceptualisation of a digital twin in a manufacturing environment; and the joint inquiry processes of workers (predominantly from the healthcare sector) in ideating, conceptualising, and prototyping roles, skills, and products relying on IoT and AI technologies for their work futures. The research and design practice is guided by Deweyan pragmatism, underscoring the role and nature of materials (design methods, tools, and practices) in participatory design processes. Drawing from the three collaborative design cases and these theoretical notions, this thesis addresses two research questions: “What dimensions are needed to support participants in creating work-oriented improvements using technology?” and “How can these dimensions inform designers in staging joint inquiry situations of work-oriented improvements using technology?” The research methods consist of audio-recorded interviews, field notes, and collective reflective sessions to analyse the empirical material and video recordings. The main contributions are the identification of dimensions that underscore technology and work-oriented themes in joint inquiry and the framework of “thinking with and through technology”, which integrates these dimensions into a guided reflective and analytical design process. These contributions can help design and innovation practitioners and researchers prepare and stage materials, methods, and perspectives of joint inquiry situations concerning technology. The framework presents a “thinking with” perspective that underscores the material properties of technology and what the technology can offer to participants, and a “thinking through” perspective to contest the role of technology in organisations and open the design space to consider more sustainable and responsible futures. These results contribute to the collaborative design domain by developing knowledge and new nuances when staging joint inquiry situations of work-oriented improvements with technology. New understandings of these dimensions can contribute to an organisational landscape where workers can exercise their creativity, upskill their capacities, and voice their ideas and concerns concerning the technologies being integrated into their work environments.

  • Price adjustments by a gasoline retail chain
  • 1997
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper provides a detailed examination of price responses in the Swedish gasoline market to changes in the world market price. We use daily price data from one of the leading retail chains together with input costs (spot market price and exchange rate)for the period January 1980 to December (1996). Over the period the list price was increased (decreased) 130 (120) times, but the periodicity varies substantially and there are very few small price adjustments. This pattern is broadly consistent with a state-dependent pricing rule. Predictions of a simple Ss-model are tested with an ordered probit sample selection model. The results show that price adjustments are more likely to occur when either the input price or the exchange rate has moved significantly since the last price adjustment. However, our results indicate that prices are not adjusted to the long run equilibrium price at once. Therefore we explore an error correction model (ECM), that shows that in the short run prices are gradually moving towards the long run equlibrium in response to cost shocks.

  • Price Discrimination in Oligopoly : evidence from regional newspapers
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Industrial Economics. - : Wiley. - 0022-1821 .- 1467-6451. ; 56:2, s. 333-346
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recent theoretical work has shown that the incentive to target rival firms' customers with low prices can increase price discrimination, and that the strength of the incentive depends on a firm's market position. Using data on Swedish newspaper subscriptions, we find strong support for these predictions. Newspapers with a local competitor sell a larger part of their circulation at a discount than monopoly newspapers. Moreover, in competitive markets, the use of discounts is inversely related to the newspaper's market share. We find no evidence that price discrimination based on observable and exogenous characteristics is influenced by the market structure.
