  • Work-related cyber mistreatment from guardians, members of the public, and pupils in the context of educational work : From incivility to aggression
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Teaching and Teacher Education. - 0742-051X .- 1879-2480. ; 145, s. 1-10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study explores the nature of work-related cyber mistreatment from guardians, pupils, and members of the public as experienced by educational workers. Thematic analysis of data collected by semi-structured interviews with 31 teachers and principals resulted in two overarching themes; directly addressed cyber mistreatment in email and unwanted negative exposure on social media. The data spans over different types of cyber mistreatment, ranging from cyber incivility to cyberaggression. Educational workers typically feel powerless when exposed to mistreatment, and require support to manage these complex, novel, and distressing situations.

  • The Business Case of Gender Equality in Swedish Forestry and Mining : Restricting or Enabling Organizational Change
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Gender, Work and Organization. - : Blackwell Publishing. - 0968-6673 .- 1468-0432. ; 24:6, s. 628-642
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Forestry and mining constitutes an important part of Swedish basic industry. These industries are heavily male-dominated and are expressing an ambition to become more gender equal and less gender-segregated, arguing that this could strengthen their competitiveness in a number of areas. In this article we explore how company representatives construct gender equality as a business case and discuss how these constructions restrict and/or enable gender equality in these organizations. Departing from a social constructivist understanding of how language (re)produces gendered power relations in the workplace, the empirical basis of this paper consists of eight interviews with respondents who possess special insights into, and being of strategic importance to, gender equality issues in forestry and mining companies. In our analysis we found three dominant dimensions of the business case of gender equality Marketing (as) gender equality, Uncovering the male norm and Gender equality as a depoliticized value. We conclude that the business case framing facilitates for the companies to engage in issues of gender equality. However, issues concerning conflicting interests and power relations seem to be difficult to address within the business case discourse. This we argue affects and shapes the terms for gender equality in these organizations

  • “It is Just a Joke!” Informal Interaction and Gendered Processes Underground
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: NORA. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0803-8740 .- 1502-394X. ; 30:2, s. 94-107
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The (re)production and persistence of inequalities in male-dominated organizations is an ongoing issue. This paper aims to further examine how banter in male-dominated industrial organizations can be understood as meaningful in relation to the gendered processes of organizations. The male-dominated mining industry in Sweden—more specifically the shop floor of this setting—serves as the empirical context and twenty interviews with both men and women miners were conducted. The findings suggest that the informal interactions underground function as an informal power system carrying important meaning in relation to gendered processes of the organization. Banter has a dual function as both an including and excluding practice and with its inherent ambiguity, it has the potential to both maintain and challenge existing gendered relations underground. © 2021 The Author(s).
