  • Lysicamine Reduces Protein Kinase B (AKT) Activation and Promotes Necrosis in Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Pharmaceuticals. - : MDPI. - 1424-8247. ; 16:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is an aggressive form of thyroid cancer (TC), accounting for 50% of total TC-related deaths. Although therapeutic approaches against TC have improved in recent years, the survival rate remains low, and severe adverse effects are commonly reported. However, unexplored alternatives based on natural compounds, such as lysicamine, an alkaloid found in plants with established cytotoxicity against breast and liver cancers, offer promise. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the antineoplastic effects of lysicamine in papillary TC (BCPAP) and ATC (HTH83 and KTC-2) cells. Lysicamine treatment reduced cell viability, motility, colony formation, and AKT activation while increasing the percentage of necrotic cells. The absence of caspase activity confirmed apoptosis-independent cell death. Necrostatin-1 (NEC-1)-mediated necrosome inhibition reduced lysicamine-induced necrosis in KTC-2, suggesting necroptosis induction via a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-independent mechanism. Additionally, in silico analysis predicted lysicamine target proteins, particularly those related to MAPK and TGF-beta signaling. Our study demonstrated lysicamine's potential as an antineoplastic compound in ATC cells with a proposed mechanism related to inhibiting AKT activation and inducing cell death.

  • Measurement of prompt J/psi and beauty hadron production cross sections at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; :11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ALICE experiment at the LHC has studied J/psi production at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV through its electron pair decay on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity L-int = 5.6 nb(-1). The fraction of J/psi from the decay of long-lived beauty hadrons was determined for J/psi candidates with transverse momentum p(t) > 1,3 GeV/c and rapidity vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9. The cross section for prompt J/psi mesons, i.e. directly produced J/psi and prompt decays of heavier charmonium states such as the psi(2S) and chi(c) resonances, is sigma(prompt J/psi) (p(t) > 1.3 GeV/c, vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9) = 8.3 +/- 0.8(stat.) +/- 1.1 (syst.)(-1.4)(+1.5) (syst. pol.) mu b. The cross section for the production of b-hadrons decaying to J/psi with p(t) > 1.3 GeV/c and vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9 is a sigma(J/psi <- hB) (p(t) > 1.3 GeV/c, vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9) = 1.46 +/- 0.38 (stat.)(-0.32)(+0.26) (syst.) mu b. The results are compared to QCD model predictions. The shape of the p(t) and y distributions of b-quarks predicted by perturbative QCD model calculations are used to extrapolate the measured cross section to derive the b (b) over bar pair total cross section and d sigma/dy at mid-rapidity.

  • Data Offloading in 5G-Enabled Software-Defined Vehicular Networks : A Stackelberg-Game-Based Approach
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: IEEE Communications Magazine. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE. - 0163-6804 .- 1558-1896. ; 55:8, s. 100-108
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Data offloading using vehicles is one of the most challenging tasks to perform due to the high mobility of vehicles. There are many solutions available for this purpose, but due to the inefficient management of data along with the control decisions, these solutions are not adequate to provide data offloading by making use of the available networks. Moreover, with the advent of 5G and related technologies, there is a need to cope with high speed and traffic congestion in the existing infrastructure used for data offloading. Hence, to make intelligent decisions for data offloading, an SDN-based scheme is presented in this article. In the proposed scheme, an SDNbased controller is designed that makes decisions for data offloading by using the priority manager and load balancer. Using these two managers in SDN-based controllers, traffic routing is managed efficiently even with an increase in the size of the network. Moreover, a single-leader multi-follower Stackelberg game for network selection is also used for data offloading. The proposed scheme is evaluated with respect to several parameters where its performance was found to be superior in comparison to the existing schemes. © Copyright 2017 IEEE

  • Deep Federated Learning Enhanced Secure POI Microservices for Cyber-Physical Systems
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: IEEE wireless communications. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 1536-1284 .- 1558-0687. ; 29:2, s. 22-29
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An essential consideration in cyber-physical systems (CPS) is the ability to support secure communication services, such as points of interest (POI) microservices. Existing approaches to support secure POI microservices generally rely on anonymity and/or differential privacy technologies. There are, however, a number of known limitations with such approaches. Hence, this work presents a deep-federated-learning-based framework for securing POI microservices in CPS. In order to enhance data security, the system architecture is designed to isolate the cloud center from accessing user data on edge nodes, and an interactive training mechanism is introduced between the cloud center and edge nodes. Specifically, edge nodes pre-train reliable deep-learning-based models for users, and the cloud server coordinates parameter updating via federated learning. The connected and isolated structure between cloud center and edges facilitates deep federated learning. Finally, we implement and evaluate the performance of our proposed approach using two real-world POI-related datasets. The results show that our proposed approach achieves optimal scheduling performance and demonstrates its practical utility.

  • Angular Dependence of InP High Electron Mobility Transistors for Cryogenic Low Noise Amplifiers under a magnetic field
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: IIS UTokyo SYMPOSIUM No.100.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work addresses the angular dependence of DC properties in 100nm InP HEMT devices under the influence of applied static magnetic field at 2 K. When kept at an angle 90o towards a magnetic field of 14 T, the maximum output drain current Ids was reduced more than 99 %. A rotation sweep of the transistor revealed a strong angular and B-field dependence on Ids. This was correlated with a reduction in dc transconductance and increase in on-resistance of the transistor. The RF properties of the transistor were tested by measuring an 0.3-14 GHz InP HEMT MMIC low-noise amplifier (LNA) at 2 K kept at an angle 90o towards a magnetic field up to 10 T. The gain and noise temperature were strongly decreased and increased, respectively, already below 1 T. The results show that precise alignment of the cryogenic InP HEMT LNA is crucial in a magnetic field. Even a slight mis-orientation of a few degrees leads to a strong degradation of the gain and noise temperature.

  • On the angular dependence of InP high electron mobility transistors for cryogenic low noise amplifiers in a magnetic field
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: AIP Advances. - : AIP Publishing. - 2158-3226 .- 2158-3226. ; 9:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The InGaAs-InAlAs-InP high electron mobility transistor (InP HEMT) is the preferred active device used in a cryogenic low noise amplifier (LNA) for sensitive detection of microwave signals. We have investigated the angular dependence of the InP HEMT when oriented in a magnetic field at 2 K ambient temperature up to 14 T. A sharp angular dependence as a function of the magnetic field was measured for the output current of the InP HEMT. This was accurately described by a geometrical magnetoresistance expression for all angles and magnetic field strengths. Key device parameters such as transconductance and on-resistance were significantly affected at small angles and magnetic fields. The strong angular dependence of the InP HEMT output current in a magnetic field has important implications for the alignment of cryogenic LNAs in microwave detection experiments involving magnetic fields. This work was performed in GigaHertz Centre in a joint research project between Chalmers University of Technology, Low Noise Factory AB, Wasa Millimeter Wave AB, Omnisys Instruments AB and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. We are grateful to Serguei Cherednichenko for valuable assistance in the noise measurements and Niklas Wadefalk for the LNA design.
