  • Development of heart block in children of SSA/SSB-autoantibody-positive women is associated with maternal age and displays a season-of-birth pattern
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases. - London : BMJ Publishing Group. - 0003-4967 .- 1468-2060. ; 71:3, s. 334-340
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective Congenital heart block may develop in the fetuses of Ro/SSA-positive and La/SSB-positive mothers. Recurrence rates of only 10-20% despite persisting maternal antibodies indicate that additional factors are critical for the establishment of heart block. The authors investigated the influence of other maternal and fetal factors on heart block development in a Swedish population-based cohort. less thanbrgreater than less thanbrgreater thanMethods The influence of fetal gender, maternal age, parity and time of birth on heart block development was analysed in 145 families, including Ro/La-positive (n=190) and Ro/La-negative (n=165) pregnancies. less thanbrgreater than less thanbrgreater thanResults There was a recurrence rate of 12.1% in Ro/La-positive women, and no recurrence in Ro/La-negative women. Fetal gender and parity did not influence the development of heart block in either group. Maternal age in Ro/La-positive pregnancies with a child affected by heart block was, however, significantly higher than in pregnancies resulting in babies without heart block (pandlt;0.05). Seasonal timing of pregnancy influenced the outcome. Gestational susceptibility weeks 18-24 occurring during January-March correlated with a higher proportion of children with heart block and lower vitamin D levels during the same period in a representative sample of Swedish women and a corresponding higher proportion of children with heart block born in the summer (pandlt;0.02). Maternal age or seasonal timing of pregnancy did not affect the outcome in Ro/La-negative pregnancies. less thanbrgreater than less thanbrgreater thanConclusion This study identifies maternal age and seasonal timing of pregnancy as novel risk factors for heart block development in children of Ro/La-positive women. These observations may be useful for counselling when pregnancy is considered.

  • Patients' experiences with generic substitution-a Swedish pharmacy survey
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Pharmacy World & Science. - : Springer. - 0928-1231 .- 1573-739X. ; 32:5, s. 681-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Background and objective Generic substitution for reimbursed drugs was introduced in Sweden 1 of October 2002. Concerns have been expressed that generic substitution may compromise patient safety. This study aimed to evaluate how Swedish drug consumers experience generic substitution, more than 5 year after implementation. Design Survey study with an electronic questionnaire, offered to 1551 pharmacy customers/patients presenting with a prescription on one of the 2688 drugs included. The selected drugs constituted 75% of the total volume of dispensed drugs subjected to generic substitution in August 2007.Setting Fifty-eight Swedish community pharmacies. Main outcome measures Positive experiences with generic substitution; problems and their degree of seriousness; and the reported incidence of medication errors. Consumers’ suggestions of improvements to the generic substitution system were also captured. Results Of 1551 respondents (602 male, 949 female), 35% (n = 536) reported one or more positive experiences, the most common being the lower drug price. Sixty percent (n= 932) claimed they had not experienced any problems. Forty percent reported at least one problem related to substitution. Seven percent (n=109) reported medication errors attributed to generic substitution. Twenty-two percent (n=342) of the respondents offered suggestions for improvement. The most common suggestions were to revise the criteria for assessing interchangeability between brand-name and generic alternatives and to abolish substitution. Conclusions A majority of respondents do not experience any problems related to generic substitution. A sizeable minority experience problems, partly resulting in medication errors. Over- and undermedication, lack of compliance, and intake of wrong drug or of both the original and the generic were the problems most often reported. Future system changes should consider the importance of revised criteria for generic and brand name interchangeability.

  • Dual Wideband Printed Dipole Antenna with Integrated Balun
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: IET microwaves, antennas & propagation. - : Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). - 1751-8725. ; 1:3, s. 707-711
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A printed dipole antenna with integrated balun is presented. The radiating structure is a two-element dipole with resonances at 900 and 1700 MHz, with the balun providing one extra resonance at each band. By co-designing the radiating element with a Marchand balun modified for dual-band operation, an antenna covering the cellular bands 824-960 and 1710-2170 MHz has been achieved. Measurements on a fabricated antenna on low-cost FR-4 substrate show antenna efficiencies of > 80 and > 70% in the lower and upper band respectively. Despite the use of a dual-element radiator, the radiation pattern that is close to omni-directional H-plane is obtained.

  • Wideband Active and Passive Antenna Solutions for Handheld Terminals
  • 2007
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This thesis presents solutions and studies related to the design of wideband antennas for wireless handheld terminal applications. A method of electrically shortening the terminal chassis length to obtain resonance at high frequencies has been proposed and evaluated, thereby increasing the antennas impedance bandwidth. No significant effect on the lower frequency band in a dual-band antenna prototype has been observed, making the method suitable for multi-band applications. The chassis has further been utilized as a zero-thickness 0.9 - 2.7 GHz high efficiency antenna by inserting a notch in the chassis center, and a feasibility study for typical phones has been performed. Additionally, the effect of talk position on the chassis wave-mode has been investigated, where the standard equivalent circuit model for terminal antennas has been modified to include the presence of the users head. The model has been used to explain measured and simulated effects concerning frequency detuning, efficiency reduction and bandwidth enhancements when the terminal is placed in talk position. The use of a hands-free earpiece cord is currently mandatory for FM radio reception as the cord is utilized as antenna. However, there is currently a market driven demand for removing the cord requirement since many modern phones are equipped with speakers and Bluetooth headsets. In this thesis, an active ferrite loop antenna is proposed as an internal replacement/complement with a performance of -23 dB (G/T degradation) compared to a full-size lossless dipole in urban environments. Also, a modification to the cord is suggested for DVB H reception.Complex matching networks have been investigated to increase the bandwidth of dual band PIFA antennas, and a printed dual band dipole has been integrated with a modified Marchand balun for dual resonance at two separate frequency bands, thus covering the commercial cellular bands 824-960 and 1710-2170 MHz with a single antenna.

  • Accelerator development at the FREIA Laboratory
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Instrumentation. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 1748-0221. ; 16:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The FREIA Laboratory at Uppsala University focuses on superconducting technology and accelerator development. It actively supports the development of the European Spallation Source, CERN, and MAX IV, among others. FREIA has developed test facilities for superconducting accelerator technology such as a double-cavity horizontal test cryostat, a vertical cryostat with a novel magnetic field compensation scheme, and a test stand for short cryomodules. Accelerating cavities have been tested in the horizontal cryostat, crab-cavities cavities in the vertical cryostat, and cryomodules for ESS on the cryomodule test stand. High power radio-frequency amplifier prototypes based on vacuum tube technology were developed for driving spoke cavities. Solid-state amplifiers and power combiners are under development for future projects. We present the status of the FREIA Laboratory complemented with results of recent projects and future prospects.
