  • Verksamhetsförlagd utbildning på avancerad nivå : ny utmaning för specialistutbildningar för sjuksköterskor
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Vård i Norden. - København : Sjuksköterskornas samarbete i Norden. - 0107-4083 .- 1890-4238. ; 29:94, s. 41-43
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The aim of this article is to discuss challenges in the development of Specialist Nursing Educations as a result of the 2007 Swedish Higher EducationReform: the implementation of the so-called Bologna process. Certain challenges follow this reform, particularly since the specialist nursingprogrammes will be part of the second cycle of the higher education system, and it will be possible to combine the professional degree witha masters degree (one year). Possible strategies in four areas related to the Specialist Nursing Education are discussed: integration of researchbasedknowledge, experienced-based knowledge, improvement knowledge, and strategies for collaboration between university institutions andclinics. Specific didactical issues are raised.

  • Unemployment and Health : Experiences Narrated by Young Finnish Men
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: American Journal of Men's Health. - : SAGE Publications. - 1557-9883 .- 1557-9891. ; 9:1, s. 76-85
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Studies have shown that the experiences and consequences of unemployment can affect people differently depending on, for example, age and gender. The purpose of the present study was to describe young Finnish men's experiences of being unemployed as well as how their experiences of health emerged. Fifteen young unemployed Finnish men in the age range 18 to 27 years were interviewed face to face. Purposive sampling was used to increase the variation among informants. The interview texts were analyzed using both manifest and latent qualitative content analysis. The present results showed that the young men were strongly negatively affected by being unemployed. They described how they had slowly lost their foothold. They also described feelings of shame and guilt as well as a flight from reality. The present results show that even young men who have only experienced shorter periods of unemployment, in this study periods between 2 and 6 months, are negatively affected, for example, with regard to their identity and emotional life. Further research is needed to describe and elucidate in more detail the effects of unemployment on men of different ages and living in different contexts.

  • A Qualitative Metasynthesis From Nurses’ Perspective When Dealing With Ethical Dilemmas and Ethical Problems in End-of-Life Care
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: International journal for human caring. - : Springer Publishing Company. - 1091-5710. ; 19:1, s. 40-48
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This metasynthesis aimed to translate, interpret, and present a synthesis of qualitative studies from nurses' perspectives dealing with ethical dilemmas and ethical problems in end-of-life care and to gain a deeper understanding of the phenomena. Nurses and other care professionals need to gain a deeper understanding and alleviate the suffering of patients through evidence-based practice end-of-life care. The metasynthesis, inspired by Noblit and Hare, generated an overarching metaphor, The Loving Eye. The Loving Eye illustrates how nurses are deeply involved with patients as human beings and connotes an inner responsibility to struggle for patients' best interests and wishes at the end of life. With The Loving Eye, nurses can see and feel patients' need to be confirmed, comforted, and healed approaching the end of life.

  • Community nurses' experiences of ethical problems in end-of-life care in the patient's own home.
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences. - : Wiley. - 0283-9318 .- 1471-6712. ; 27:4, s. 831-838
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AIM: To gain a deeper understanding of community nurses' experiences of ethical problems in end-of-life care in the patient's own home. METHOD: Ten female nurses from five different communities with experience of end-of-life care were interviewed. A hermeneutic approach inspired by Gadamer was used to analyse the qualitative data from the interviews. FINDINGS: In the first step of interpretation, two themes emerged: Uncomfortable feelings and Lack of cooperation and in the second step, one theme Lack of security emerged. Finally, the overall interpretation revealed the theme Feelings of loss of control in end-of-life care in the patient's own home. CONCLUSION: The nurses exhibited commitment and a desire to do good when caring for patients in the end-of-life phase, even if they sometimes experienced feelings of lack of control. This implies that, when confronted with care-related issues, they have the power to both act and react. This study aimed to increase understanding of ethical problems that arise in end-of-life care in the patient's own home and revealed the need to take the patients', relatives' and nurses' perspectives on health and suffering into consideration to ensure good end-of-life home care.

  • A qualitative study of complementary and alternative medicine use in persons with uninvestigated dyspepsia
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Gastroenterology Nursing. - 1042-895X .- 1538-9766. ; 32:2, s. 107-114
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dyspepsia is a common disorder. A lack of effective therapies for managing dyspepsia may invite use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). The aim of this study was to elucidate CAM methods and their perceived effects in a middle-sized community in Sweden. Group interviews were used. Persons with uninvestigated dyspepsia, according to the Rome II criteria, were included. Data were studied systematically using manifest content analysis. A total of 25 persons (13 women and 12 men) were assigned to five different groups. The CAM methods used by participants were categorized as follows: (1) nutritional, (2) drug/biological, (3) spiritual/psychological, and (4) physical activity. In this study, 26 CAM methods associated with various effects were identified and all persons had used at least one method.

  • A concept of caring aiming at health
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International journal for human caring. - 1091-5710. ; 17:1, s. 33-44
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article aims to explore and describe nurses´, patients´ and relatives´ lived experiences in care giving settings.  Findings presented emerge from reanalysis three previous qualitative studies carried out by the author.  Reanalysis is a documented method as it extend existing knowledge that generates new understanding about phenomenon experienced. Using a triangulation in approaches, the phenomenographical, phenomenological and hermeneutical reanalysis data shows the characteristics of caring as a phenomenon, conceptions of caring and how caring affects peoples being-in-the world. Using abduction and applying hermeneutic as an overall design a qualitative meta-synthesis a concept of caring is drawn from three different perspectives.

  • A concept of caring developed from three perspectives
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Qualitative Methods. - 1609-4069. ; 3:Sup2, s. 33-33
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • International research indicates that patients and their families have not always been satisfied with the health care given them, and they suffer. To be able to alleviate suffering it will be necessary to describe varied experiences of care. In this article three diverse perspectives - those of the health care professionals, the patients and the relatives are described, analyzed and interpreted. In doing so the researcher makes use of the phenomenological, phenomenographical and hermeneutical approaches.
