  • SAFEPOWER project : Architecture for safe and power-efficient mixed-criticality systems
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Microprocessors and microsystems. - : Elsevier. - 0141-9331 .- 1872-9436. ; 52, s. 89-105
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • With the ever increasing industrial demand for bigger, faster and more efficient systems, a growing number of cores is integrated on a single chip. Additionally, their performance is further maximized by simultaneously executing as many processes as possible without regarding their criticality. Even safety critical domains like railway and avionics apply these paradigms under strict certification regulations. As the number of cores is continuously expanding, the importance of cost-effectiveness grows. One way to increase the cost-efficiency of such System on Chip (SoC) is to enhance the way the SoC handles its power resources. By increasing the power efficiency, the reliability of the SoC is raised because the lifetime of the battery lengthens. Secondly, by having less energy consumed, the emitted heat is reduced in the SoC which translates into fewer cooling devices. Though energy efficiency has been thoroughly researched, there is no application of those power saving methods in safety critical domains yet. The EU project SAFEPOWER1.

  • Vibration measurement on composite material with embedded optical fiber based on phase-OTDR
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering Volume 10168, Sensors and Smart Structures Technologies for Civil, Mechanical, and Aerospace Systems 2017; 101683Q (2017). - : SPIE. - 9781510608214
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Distributed sensors based on phase-optical time-domain reflectometry (phase-OTDR) are suitable for aircraft health monitoring due to electromagnetic interference immunity, small dimensions, low weight and flexibility. These features allow the fiber embedment into aircraft structures in a nearly non-intrusive way to measure vibrations along its length. The capability of measuring vibrations on avionics structures is of interest for what concerns the study of material fatigue or the occurrence of undesirable phenomena like flutter. In this work, we employed the phase-OTDR technique to measure vibrations ranging from some dozens of Hz to kHz in two layers of composite material board with embedded polyimide coating 0.24 numerical aperture single-mode optical fiber. © 2017 SPIE.

  • The meaning of wild : Genetic and adaptive consequences from large-scale releases of domestic mallards
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Communications Biology. - : Springer Nature. - 2399-3642. ; 6:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The translocation of individuals around the world is leading to rising incidences of anthropogenic hybridization, particularly between domestic and wild congeners. We apply a landscape genomics approach for thousands of mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) samples across continental and island populations to determine the result of over a century of supplementation practices. We establish that a single domestic game-farm mallard breed is the source for contemporary release programs in Eurasia and North America, as well as for established feral populations in New Zealand and Hawaii. In particular, we identify central Europe and eastern North America as epicenters of ongoing anthropogenic hybridization, and conclude that the release of game-farm mallards continues to affect the genetic integrity of wild mallards. Conversely, self-sustaining feral populations in New Zealand and Hawaii not only show strong differentiation from their original stock, but also signatures of local adaptation occurring in less than a half-century since game-farm mallard releases have ceased. We conclude that 'wild' is not singular, and that even feral populations are capable of responding to natural processes. Although considered paradoxical to biological conservation, understanding the capacity for wildness among feral and feral admixed populations in human landscapes is critical as such interactions increase in the Anthropocene.

  • Emergence of Multidrug- and Pandrug- Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa from Five Hospitals in Qatar
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Infection Prevention in Practice. - : Elsevier. - 2590-0889. ; 1:3-4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: A global rise in multidrug-resistant (MDR) nosocomial infections has led to a significant increase in morbidity and mortality. MDR Gram-negative bacteria (GNB) are recognised for rapidly developing drug resistance. Despite Pseudomonas aeruginosa being the second most common GNB isolated from healthcare associated infections, the magnitude of MDR P. aeruginosa (MDR-PA) has not been evaluated in Qatar.Aim: To assess the prevalence and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of MDR-PA from 5major hospitals in Qatar. Methods: A total of 2533P. aeruginosaclinical isolates were collected over a one-year period. MDR-PA was defined as resistance to at least one agent of3 antibiotic classes. Clinical and demographic data were collected prospectively.Findings: The overall prevalence of MDR-PA isolates was 8.1% (205/2533); the majority of isolates were from patients exposed to antibiotics during 90 days prior to isolation (85.4%,177/205), and the infections were mainly hospital-acquired (95.1%, 195/205) with only 4.9% from the community. The majority of MDR-PA isolates were resistant to cefepime (96.6%, 198/205), ciprofloxacin, piperacillin/tazobactam (91%, 186/205), and meropenem (90%, 184/205). Patient comorbidities with MDR-PA were diabetes mellitus (47.3%, n¼97), malignancy (17.1%, n¼35), end-stage renal disease (13.7%, n¼28) and heart failure (10.7%, n¼22).Conclusion: There was a significant prevalence of MDR-PA in Qatar, primarily from healthcare facilities and associated with prior antibiotic treatment. There was an alarming level of antimicrobial resistance to carbapenems. Our results are part of a national surveillance of MDR to establish effective containment plans.

  • Evaluation of in vitro activity of ceftazidime/avibactam and ceftolozane/tazobactam against MDR Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates from Qatar
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. - : Oxford University Press. - 0305-7453 .- 1460-2091. ; 74:12, s. 3497-3504
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES: To investigate the in vitro activity of ceftazidime/avibactam and ceftolozane/tazobactam against clinical isolates of MDR Pseudomonas aeruginosa from Qatar, as well as the mechanisms of resistance.METHODS: MDR P. aeruginosa isolated between October 2014 and September 2015 from all public hospitals in Qatar were included. The BD PhoenixTM system was used for identification and initial antimicrobial susceptibility testing, while Liofilchem MIC Test Strips (Liofilchem, Roseto degli Abruzzi, Italy) were used for confirmation of ceftazidime/avibactam and ceftolozane/tazobactam susceptibility. Ten ceftazidime/avibactam- and/or ceftolozane/tazobactam-resistant isolates were randomly selected for WGS.RESULTS: A total of 205 MDR P. aeruginosa isolates were included. Of these, 141 (68.8%) were susceptible to ceftazidime/avibactam, 129 (62.9%) were susceptible to ceftolozane/tazobactam, 121 (59.0%) were susceptible to both and 56 (27.3%) were susceptible to neither. Twenty (9.8%) isolates were susceptible to ceftazidime/avibactam but not to ceftolozane/tazobactam and only 8 (3.9%) were susceptible to ceftolozane/tazobactam but not to ceftazidime/avibactam. Less than 50% of XDR isolates were susceptible to ceftazidime/avibactam or ceftolozane/tazobactam. The 10 sequenced isolates belonged to six different STs and all produced AmpC and OXA enzymes; 5 (50%) produced ESBL and 4 (40%) produced VIM enzymes.CONCLUSIONS: MDR P. aeruginosa susceptibility rates to ceftazidime/avibactam and ceftolozane/tazobactam were higher than those to all existing antipseudomonal agents, except colistin, but were less than 50% in extremely resistant isolates. Non-susceptibility to ceftazidime/avibactam and ceftolozane/tazobactam was largely due to the production of ESBL and VIM enzymes. Ceftazidime/avibactam and ceftolozane/tazobactam are possible options for some patients with MDR P. aeruginosa in Qatar.

  • Formal design, co-simulation and validation of a radar signal processing system
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2019 Forum on Specification and Design Languages, FDL 2019. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9781728141138
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • With the ever increasing complexity in safety-critical and performance-demanding application domains such as automotive and avionics, the costs of designing, producing and especially testing systems does not scale well for the next generation of applications. One example is the active electronically scanned array (AESA) antenna signal processing chain, which is currently out-of-reach from consumer products but rather part of a few exclusive hi-tech appliances. To cope with the associated complexity of such systems, we propose a design flow starting from a high-level formal modeling language which captures and exposes important design properties to enable their systematic exploitation for the purpose of simulation, analysis and synthesis towards cost-efficient implementations. We demonstrate the capabilities of this approach by providing a compact yet expressive description of the AESA signal processing chain, generate automatic test-cases to verify the conformity of model with design specifications, synthesize a part of it to VHDL and co-simulate the generated artifact to validate its correctness.

  • Prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder among gynecological patients with a history of sexual and physical abuse
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Journal of Interpersonal Violence. - 0886-2605 .- 1552-6518. ; 15:9, s. 944-958
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • All patients who visited the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Link÷ping, Sweden over a 2-week period were sent a questionnaire about experiences of sexual/physical abuse and the Traumatic Event Scale, assessing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Of 649 patients, 26.3% showed a history of sexual or physical abuse in childhood or adulthood. Childhood and adulthood sexual abuse were experienced by 11.6% and 6.5%, respectively, childhood and adulthood physical abuse by 16.9% and 7.9%, respectively. Twenty-nine of all participants (4.5%) met PTSD criteria, according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. PTSD was associated with multiple experiences of abuse. The frequency of PTSD symptoms was positively related to the amount and recency of abuse. PTSD participants reported more visits to a physician than abused non-PTSD and nonabused participants. The PTSD group reported less satisfaction than the other two groups with (a) contact with the physician and (b) the help received during visits to the clinic.
