  • Rasbiologiskt språkbruk i statens rättsprocess mot sameby : DN Debatt 2015-06-11
  • 2015
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract

  • Gold- and Silver Nanoparticles Affect the Growth Characteristics of Human Embryonic Neural Precursor Cells
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: PLOS ONE. - : Public Library of Science (PLoS). - 1932-6203. ; 8:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Rapid development of nanotechnologies and their applications in clinical research have raised concerns about the adverse effects of nanoparticles (NPs) on human health and environment. NPs can be directly taken up by organs exposed, but also translocated to secondary organs, such as the central nervous system (CNS) after systemic- or subcutaneous administration, or via the olfactory system. The CNS is particularly vulnerable during development and recent reports describe transport of NPs across the placenta and even into brain tissue using in vitro and in vivo experimental systems. Here, we investigated whether well-characterized commercial 20 and 80 nm Au- and AgNPs have an effect on human embryonic neural precursor cell (HNPC) growth. After two weeks of NP exposure, uptake of NPs, morphological features and the amount of viable and dead cells, proliferative cells (Ki67 immunostaining) and apoptotic cells (TUNEL assay), respectively, were studied. We demonstrate uptake of both 20 and 80 nm Au- and AgNPs respectively, by HNPCs during proliferation. A significant effect on the sphere size- and morphology was found for all cultures exposed to Au- and AgNPs. AgNPs of both sizes caused a significant increase in numbers of proliferating and apoptotic HNPCs. In contrast, only the highest dose of 20 nm AuNPs significantly affected proliferation, whereas no effect was seen on apoptotic cell death. Our data demonstrates that both Au- and AgNPs interfere with the growth profile of HNPCs, indicating the need of further detailed studies on the adverse effects of NPs on the developing CNS.

    • The nursingprofession is demanding and variable; nurses must have knowledge and proficiency practically, technically and be able to teamwork in the relation with all kinds of patients. At the same time they should perform nursing according to science and tried practice. One way to develop the engagement in patients and bring new knowledge into nursing is to participate in clinical supervision. The aim of the present study was to find out how nurses in somatic care describes what they learn and how knowledge integrates and develops in clinical supervision. Eight nurses were interviewed and their responses were taped, written down word for word and analysed according to a qualitative approach. The results shows that practically all knowledge were integrated by reflection. With the help of reflection the nurses could be taught by each others experiences, develop nursing and become skilful nurses.

  • Heart failure outcomes in low-risk patients with atrial fibrillation: a case-control study of 680 523 Swedish individuals
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Esc Heart Failure. - 2055-5822. ; 10:4, s. 2281-2289
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AimsKnowledge of long-term outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) remains limited. We sought to evaluate the risk of new-onset heart failure (HF) in patients with AF and a low cardiovascular risk profile. Methods and resultsData from the Swedish National Patient Register were used to identify all patients with a first-time diagnosis of AF without underlying cardiovascular disease at baseline between 1987 and 2018. Each patient was compared with two controls without AF from the National Total Population Register. In total, 227 811 patients and 452 712 controls were included. During a mean follow-up of 9.1 (standard deviation 7.0) years, the hazard ratio (HR) for new-onset HF was 3.55 [95% confidence interval (CI) 3.51-3.60] in patients compared with controls. Women with AF (18-34 years) had HR for HF onset 24.6 (95% CI 7.59-80.0) and men HR 9.86 (95% CI 6.81-14.27). The highest risk was within 1 year in patients 18-34 years, HR 103.9 (95% CI 46.3-233.1). The incidence rate within 1 year increased from 6.2 (95% CI 4.5-8.6) per 1000 person-years in young patients (18-34 years) to 142.8 (95% CI 139.4-146.3) per 1000 person-years among older patients (>80 years). ConclusionsPatients studied had a three-fold higher risk of developing HF compared with controls. Young patients, particularly women, carry up to 100-fold increased risk to develop HF within 1 year after AF. Further studies in patients with AF and low cardiovascular risk profile are needed to prevent serious complications such as HF.

  • Kropp, blick och plats – konstruktioner av dans- och vokalundervisning
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Educare - vetenskapliga skrifter No 2 (2019): Aesthetics, learning and education - Part I. - 1653-1868. ; :2, s. 73-92
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • By focusing on dance and on the voice as a music instrument, and applying a gender perspective, this article problematizes constructions of dance and music education – arenas where girls and women are in the majority. The result is based on the meta-analysis of a common issue found in four qualitative studies, three conducted at the aesthetic programs at upper-secondary schools in Sweden and one conducted in higher music education. The studies were produced through participatory observation, video-documented teaching situations, discussions with teachers about critical incidents, focus group discussions and group interviews. The meta-analysis shows that dance and vocal studies’ have similar subject constructions based on the traditions and conventions of the performing arts. Furthermore, the result points to the need to highlight how the body, the gaze, and the place are constructed in teaching and learning to clarify what norms and values surround the subjects. The article contributes to the discussion of how quality is understood in dance and music education and increases the knowledge of widening participation in these subjects.

  • The performing body, the place and the gaze – subject conception in vocal education
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: The Conference Gender and Music in Balance, The Arctic University of Norway, April 2018.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The performing body, the place and the gaze – subject conception in vocal education This presentation focuses on subject conception in music in relation to the performing body, the stage as a place for learning and the scrutinizing gaze of the beholder. Specifically, vocal education in preparatory and in higher music education are problematized. Contexts that from a gender perspective have an unbalanced representation. Taking an intersectional point of departure, the objective is to highlight and discuss subject conception in relation to inclusion and exclusion in vocal teaching and learning. Parallels are drawn to dance education, since also dance has an unbalanced representation. A meta-analysis based on three completed studies in music and dance education is underpinning the presentation. The studies are produced in Swedish upper secondary schools and in higher music education. The result verifies the body of previous research suggesting that subject conception in vocal and dance education is based on performing arts traditions, rather than on pedagogical/didactical traditions. Another finding is that the educational background of vocal and dance teachers is similar and essential for how subject conceptions are constructed. Knowledge is often produced based on a master-apprentice ideal, and discussion about tradition and quality risks stagnating. The result also indicates that in vocal training, as well as in dance classes, settings where the body is the instrument, the teachers’ gaze and bodily displayed multimodal language have a governing function. Further, the results indicate that an imaginary stage and the gaze of an imaginary audience are present and taken for granted in the classroom, and they are used as tools for learning. The interplay between the performing body, the classroom as a stage and the scrutinizing gaze, from the teacher and from an audience, is thereby internalized and bodily displayed by the student, i.e. the body, the place and the gaze are understood as a hub for learning.

  • Hushållningens pedagogiska innehåll - en analys av ICA-Kuriren 1942
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Historisk Tidskrift. - 0345-469X .- 2002-4827. ; 138:2, s. 255-285
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The educational content of housekeeping – An analysis of ICA-Kuriren 1942In 1942 the practical knowledge of housekeeping in Sweden was formulated, legitimized and materialized largely under the influence of government actions. The period is characterized by ideals grounded in science and rationality, Second World War rationing and the societal project of folkhemmet, ”the people’s home.” The practice of housekeeping is investigated through an analysis of ICA-Kuriren, a periodical published by a consortium of food wholesalers, that was first issued in 1942 and was widely distributed to Swedish households. Located at the intersection of social history and the history of education, the focus is on the discursive construction of the figure of the ”housewife,” the most important agent in the sociopolitical and pedagogical process that aimed at changing practices of housekeeping. There were tensions in this discursive construction of the housewife between rational and non-rational thought, with the preference always being for the rational. It can be found in a variety of contrasts, between new and old knowledge and between the experienced and the inexperienced, and the knowledgeable and unknowledgeable housewife. Another tension was embedded in the encouragement to both be frugal and to buy and consume expensive items.
