  • Decentralization of Particle Filters Using Arbitrary State Decomposition
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 49th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. - 9781424477456 ; , s. 7383-7388
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, a new particle filter (PF) which we refer to as the decentralized PF (DPF) is proposed. By first decomposing the state into two parts, the DPF splits the filtering problem into two nested sub-problems and then handles the two nested sub-problems using PFs. The DPF has an advantage over the regular PF that the DPF can increase the level of parallelism of the PF. In particular, part of the resampling in the DPF bears a parallel structure and thus can be implemented in parallel. The parallel structure of the DPF is created by decomposing the state space, differing from the parallel structure of the distributed PFs which is created by dividing the sample space. This difference results in a couple of unique features of the DPF in contrast with the existing distributed PFs. Simulation results from a numerical example indicates that the DPF has a potential to achieve the same level of performance as the regular PF, in a shorter execution time.

  • Improving continuing engineering education through institutional co-operation : a swedish case study
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 9th World Conference on Continuing Engineering Education – Tokyo May 15–20, 2004. ; , s. 195-200
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a unique CEE-collaboration between three universities in Sweden concerning the development of a distance course in quality technology and management. The course is based on distance spanning technology and is mainly aimed at engineers who have a degree and have been working for a few years. The background, organisation and practical experiences from the co-operative course development work are presented and discussed in the paper

  • Vitamin D enhances IL-1β secretion and restricts growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in macrophages from TB patients
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International journal of mycobacteriology. - Netherlands : Wolters Kluwer. - 2212-5531. ; 2:1, s. 18-25
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The emergence of multidrug-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), the bacterium responsible for tuberculosis (TB), has rekindled the interest in the role of nutritional supplementation of micronutrients, such as vitamin D, as adjuvant treatment. Here, the growth of virulent MTB in macrophages obtained from the peripheral blood of patients with and without TB was studied. The H37Rv strain genetically modified to express Vibrio harveyi luciferase was used to determine the growth of MTB by luminometry in the human monocyte-derived macrophages (hMDMs) from study subjects. Determination of cytokine levels in culture supernatants was performed using a flow cytometry-based bead array technique. No differences in intracellular growth of MTB were observed between the different study groups. However, stimulation with 100nM 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D significantly enhanced the capacity of hMDMs isolated from TB patients to control the infection. This effect was not observed in hMDMs from the other groups. The interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-10 release by hMDMs was clearly increased upon stimulation with 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D. Furthermore, the 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D stimulation also led to elevated levels of TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor-alpha) and IL-12p40. It was concluded that vitamin D triggers an inflammatory response in human macrophages with enhanced secretion of cytokines, as well as enhancing the capacity of hMDMs from patients with active TB to restrict mycobacterial growth.

  • Electrification and Energy Productivity
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Ecological Economics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0921-8009. ; 68:11, s. 2808-2817
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Energy productivity is crucial for sustainable development. We use cointegration analyses to investigate the effect of electricity on energy productivity in Swedish industry from 1930 to 1990. Electricity augmented energy productivity in those industrial branches that used electricity formultiple purposes. This productivity effect goes beyond “book-keeping effects,” i. e. it is not only the result of electricity being produced in one sector (taking the energy transformation losses) and consumed in another (receiving the benefits).

  • Identifying development blocks - A new methodology Implemented on Swedish industry 1900–1974
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Evolutionary Economics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0936-9937 .- 1432-1386. ; 18:1, s. 57-76
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper specifies a quantitative methodology for exploring development blocks. The concept of 'development block' was a major contribution to the historical analysis of industrial transformation by the late Erik Dahmen, but development blocks have mainly been analyzed by qualitative methods and indirect indicators and not statistically identified. In this paper, development blocks are identified by means of a combination of co-integration analysis and Granger causality. Using these techniques, we are able to identify two partially overlapping development blocks in the Swedish economy, formed around the electricity generating sector: one with metal, metal goods, machinery and railways; and another with pulp and paper, chemicals, and machinery.

  • Regional convergence and divergence in Sweden, 1860–2010 : Evidence from Swedish historical regional GDP data
  • 2018. - 1
  • Ingår i: The Economic Development of Europe's Regions : A Quantitative History since 1900 - A Quantitative History since 1900. - London : Routledge. - 9780415723381 - 9780429449789 ; , s. 291-309
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Since industrialization, Sweden has experienced an amazing growth trajectory. In 1850, Sweden was a quite poor and peripheral country, with GDP levels close to the world’s average. One and a half centuries later, Sweden ranks among the richest countries in the world with GDP levels more than three times the world’s average (Schön 2013). Yet apart from a few case studies and some industry studies, little is known about the geographical evolution of Sweden’s growth process. This chapter will fill in the gap by presenting estimates of Swedish regional GDPs for 24 counties corresponding to NUTS 3 regions from 1860 to 2010. Using this data set, we will present descriptive evidence on processes of regional convergence and divergence and discuss some tentative explanations for these patterns.
