  • Identification of sawflies and horntails (Hymenoptera, ‘Symphyta’) through DNA barcodes: successes and caveats
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Molecular Ecology Resources. - : Wiley. - 1755-098X .- 1755-0998. ; 17, s. 670-685
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ‘Symphyta’ is a paraphyletic assemblage at the base of the order Hymenoptera, comprising 14 families and about 8750 species. All have phytophagous larvae, except for the Orussidae, which are parasitoids. This study presents and evaluates the results of DNA barcoding of approximately 5360 specimens of ‘Symphyta’, mainly adults, and 4362 sequences covering 1037 species were deemed of suitable quality for inclusion in the analysis. All extant families are represented, except for the Anaxyelidae. The majority of species and specimens are from Europe, but approximately 38% of the species and 13% of the specimens are of non-European origin. The utility of barcoding for species identification and taxonomy of ‘Symphyta’ is discussed on the basis of examples from each of the included families. A significant level of cryptic species diversity was apparent in many groups. Other attractive applications include the identification of immature stages without the need to rear them, community analyses based on metabarcoding of bulk samples and association of the sexes of adults.

  • Kidney Function and White Matter Disease in Young Stroke Patients Analysis of the Stroke in Young Fabry Patients Study Population
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Stroke: a journal of cerebral circulation. - 1524-4628. ; 43:9, s. 2382-2388
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background and Purpose-Impaired kidney function is thought to be associated with small vessel disease, outcome, and mortality in the general stroke population. Data are limited regarding young patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of kidney function and white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) in young patients with first ischemic stroke. Methods-We analyzed 2500 young (18-55 years) patients with first-ever ischemic stroke from the prospective observational Stroke in Young Fabry Patients (SIFAP1) study with available MRI data on WMH. Of these, 2009 had available data concerning estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Kidney function was expressed as eGFR by the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease method. Deep WMHs on MRI were classified by the Fazekas score. Multivariate analysis was performed using a regression model with random effects. Results-Mean eGFR was 96.7 mL/min in those with WMH Grade 0 to 1 (none to mild), 90.7 mL/min in WMH Grade 2 (moderate), and 89 mL/min in WMH Grade 3 (severe). Univariate analysis revealed WMH to be associated with age (P<0.001), hypertension (P<0.001), cardiovascular disease (P=0.015), overweight (body mass index >25 kg/m(2); P=0.013), current smoking (P=0.044), and eGFR (P=0.009). In multivariate analysis, age, hypertension, and eGFR remained associated with WMH severity. Conclusions-In young patients with acute ischemic stroke, lower eGFR values in the normal range are associated with the presence of moderate to severe WMH.

  • Dark Matter benchmark models for early LHC Run-2 Searches : Report of the ATLAS/CMS Dark Matter Forum
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physics of the Dark Universe. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-6864. ; 27
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This document is the final report of the ATLAS-CMS Dark Matter Forum, a forum organized by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations with the participation of experts on theories of Dark Matter, to select a minimal basis set of dark matter simplified models that should support the design of the early LHC Run-2 searches. A prioritized, compact set of benchmark models is proposed, accompanied by studies of the parameter space of these models and a repository of generator implementations. This report also addresses how to apply the Effective Field Theory formalism for collider searches and present the results of such interpretations.

  • The quantitative proteome of a human cell line
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Molecular Systems Biology. - : EMBO. - 1744-4292. ; 7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The generation of mathematical models of biological processes, the simulation of these processes under different conditions, and the comparison and integration of multiple data sets are explicit goals of systems biology that require the knowledge of the absolute quantity of the system's components. To date, systematic estimates of cellular protein concentrations have been exceptionally scarce. Here, we provide a quantitative description of the proteome of a commonly used human cell line in two functional states, interphase and mitosis. We show that these human cultured cells express at least similar to 10 000 proteins and that the quantified proteins span a concentration range of seven orders of magnitude up to 20 000 000 copies per cell. We discuss how protein abundance is linked to function and evolution. Molecular Systems Biology 7: 549; published online 8 November 2011; doi:10.1038/msb.2011.82

  • Cooperative trial CWS-91 for localized soft tissue sarcoma in children, adolescents, and young adults.
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of clinical oncology : official journal of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. - 1527-7755. ; 27:9, s. 1446-55
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PURPOSE: To improve risk-adapted therapy for localized childhood soft tissue sarcoma within an international multicenter setting. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Four hundred forty-one patients younger than 21 years with localized rhabdomyosarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma-like tumors (ie, extraosseous tumors of the Ewing family, synovial sarcoma, and undifferentiated sarcoma) were eligible. Therapy was stratified according to postsurgical stage, histology, and tumor site. In unresectable tumors, treatment was further adapted depending on response to induction chemotherapy, TN classification, tumor size and second-look surgery. A novel five-drug combination of etoposide, vincristine, dactinomycin, ifosfamide, and doxorubicin (EVAIA) was evaluated for high-risk patients, but cumulative chemotherapy dosage and treatment duration were reduced for the remaining individuals as compared with that of the previous trial CWS-86. Hyperfractionated accelerated radiotherapy (HART) was recommended at doses of either 32 or 48 Gy. RESULTS: At a median follow-up of 8 years, 5-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall (OS) survival for the entire cohort was 63% +/- 4% and 73% +/- 4%, respectively (all survival rates in this abstract are calculated and displayed with +/-95% CI). EFS/OS rates by histology were 60% +/- 5%/72% +/- 5% in rhabdomyosarcoma, 62% +/- 10%/69% +/- 10% for Ewing tumors of soft tissues, 84% +/- 12%/90% +/- 10% for synovial sarcoma, and 67% +/- 38%/83% +/- 30% for undifferentiated sarcoma, respectively. Response to one cycle of the five-drug combination EVAIA was similar to that of the four-drug combination VAIA used in CWS-86. Two hundred twelve patients with rhabdomyosarcoma underwent radiation (EFS, 66% +/- 6%); 53 of those patients had a favorable risk profile and received 32 Gy of HART (EFS, 73% +/- 12%). TN classification, tumor site, tumor size, histology, and age were prognostic in univariate analysis. CONCLUSION: Improved risk stratification enabled decreased therapy intensity for selected patients without compromising survival. Intensified chemotherapy with EVAIA did not improve outcome of localized high-risk rhabdomyosarcoma.

  • Status of the EU-project ROSANNE
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Transportation Research Procedia. - : Elsevier BV. - 2352-1465. ; , s. 2946-2955
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ROSANNE is a collaborative project in the Seventh EU Framework Programme which aims at developing/harmonising measurement methods for skid resistance, noise emission and rolling resistance of road pavements as a preparation for standardization. To achieve this, the project is following the recommendations of key predecessor projects like TYROSAFE, HERMES, SILVIA, SILENCE and MIRIAM as well as considering the ongoing work in CEN and ISO groups.Work package 1 deals with skid resistance and aims at the harmonization of skid resistance measurement following the TYROSAFE Roadmap, by deriving conversion factors for friction indices based on similar groups of devices, namely longitudinal and sideways skid resistance measurement devices. During the first project year a first round robin test was carried out in Nantes, ten different devices participated to the test. The results of this test are collected in report D1.2 "Analysis of data from the first round of tests and initial development of the common scale".Work package 2 is dealing with the pavement influence on road traffic noise emission: the main objective of this work package is to combine the existing measurement methods of SPB (ISO 11819-1) and CPX (ISO/DIS 11819-2) into a stable and reliable harmonised pavement noise emission characterisation method. The project is validating procedure incorporating correction mechanisms for temperature influence and investigating its potential use for noise calculation methods like the one proposed by the CNOSSOS-EU project.Work package 3 is dealing with rolling resistance, where the ROSANNE project is mainly building on the results obtained in the MIRIAM project and is considering standardized trailer measurements of rolling resistance coefficients of road surfaces. After a first report D3.1 "State of the art on rolling resistance measurement devices including draft standard outline" the following main report was produced "Parameters influencing rolling resistance and possible correction procedures".In the frame of work package 4 the project is also exploring the potential for developments in the measurement of surface texture in order to find out parameters that better reflect the physical process of tyre/road interaction and that may improve the understanding of how the texture influences noise emission, skid resistance and rolling resistance. In addition to that this work package is also investigating the performance of reference tyres and pavements which are necessary for the measurement of all three road surface properties. The present paper summarizes the project status after the first 18 project months.

  • Radiological and clinical outcomes of using Chartis (TM) to plan endobronchial valve treatment
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: European Respiratory Journal. - : European Respiratory Society (ERS). - 1399-3003 .- 0903-1936. ; 41:2, s. 302-308
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One-way endobronchial valves (EBVs) have been shown to relieve symptoms of emphysema, particularly in patients without collateral ventilation (CV) between the target and adjacent lobes. In this study, we investigated the ability of the bronchoscopic Chartis (TM) Pulmonary Assessment System to predict treatment response by determining the presence of CV. 80 EBV patients underwent a pre-treatment Chartis assessment. Before and 30 days after implantation, high-resolution computed tomography scans were taken to determine target lobe volume reduction (TLVR). A pre- to post-treatment reduction of >= 350 mL was defined as significant. In addition, clinical outcomes (forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), 6-min walk test and St George's Respiratory Questionnaire) were compared over the same time period. Of the 51 patients classified as having an absence of CV according to their Chartis reading, 36 showed a TLVR 350 mL. 29 patients were classified as having CV, and of these 24 did not meet this TLVR cut-off. Chartis showed an accuracy level of 75% in predicting whether or not the TLVR cut-off would be reached. Those predicted to respond showed significantly greater TLVR (p<0.0001) and FEV1 improvement (p=0.0013) than those predicted not to respond. Chartis is a safe and effective method of predicting response to EBV treatment.

  • SAFEST ROADMAP FOR CORIUM EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH IN EUROPE
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: PROCEEDINGS OF THE 24TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUCLEAR ENGINEERING, 2016, VOL 4. - : ASME Press. - 9780791850046
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • SAFEST (Severe Accident Facilities for European Safety Targets) is a European project networking the European corium experimental laboratories with the objective to establish coordination activities, enabling the development of a common vision and research roadmaps for the next years, and of the management structure to achieve these goals. In this frame, a European roadmap on corium experimental research has been written to define research challenges to contribute to further reinforcement of Gen II and III NPP safety. It is based on the research priorities deteimined by SARNET SARP group as well as those from the recently formulated in the NUGENIA Roadmap for severe accidents and the recently published NUGENIA Global Vision report. It also takes into account issues identified in the analysis of the European stress tests and from the interpretation of the Fukushima accident. 19 relevant issues related to corium have been selected during these prioritization efforts. These issues have been compared to a survey of the European corium experimental facilities and corium analysis laboratories. Finally, the coherence between European infrastructures and R&D needs has been assessed and a table linking issues and infrastructures has been derived. It shows a few lacks in EU corium infrastructures, especially in the domains of core late reflooding impact on source term, Reactor Pressure Vessel failure and corium release, Spent Fuel Pool accidents, as well as the need for a large mass (100500 kg) prototypic corium facility.
