  • Ar-31 examined: New limit on the beta-delayed three-proton branch
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 59:4, s. 2275-2277
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have remeasured the decay of Ar-31 with a setup sensitive to multiparticle decay branches and obtained. a new limit of 1.1 x 10(-3) (99% C.L.) on the beta-delayed three-proton branch between the isobaric analog state in Cl-31 and the ground state of Si-28. This a factor of 17 below the previously reported first observation of beta-delayed three-proton emission in Ar-31. The limit on a possible beta 3p branch to the first excited state in Si-28 is 2.9 x 10(-4). [S0556-2813(99)04404-0].

  • The beta 2p decay mechanism of Ar-31
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474. ; 677, s. 38-60
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have measured the beta-decay of Ar-31 with a high granularity setup sensitive to multiparticle decay branches. Two-proton emission is observed from the isobaric analog state in Cl-31 to the four lowest states in P-29 and furthermore from a large number of states fed in Gamow-Teller transitions. The mechanism of two-proton emission is studied via energy and angular correlations between the two protons. In all cases the mechanism is found to be sequential yielding information about states in S-30 up to 8 MeV excitation energy. Improved data on the beta-delayed one-proton branches together with the two-proton data provide precise information about the beta-strength distribution up to 15 MeV excitation energy.

  • Non-analog beta decay of Rb-74
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - 0370-2693. ; 511:2-4, s. 145-150
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The magnitude of the Coulomb mixing parameter delta (l)(IM) has been experimentally deduced, for the first time, for the B decay of Rb-74. Th, estimated magnitude is derived from the feeding of the non-analog first excited 0(+) state in Kr-74. The inferred upper Limit of 0.07% is small compared to theoretical predictions. The half-life was measured to be 64.90(9) ms.

  • Characterization of radioactive particles using non-destructive alpha spectrometry.
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Applied Radiation and Isotopes. - : Elsevier BV. - 0969-8043. ; 68, s. 1754-1759
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Spherical particles with known properties were used to demonstrate and test a novel software package known as AASIFIT, which is able to unfold complex alpha spectra. A unique feature of the program is that it uses simulated peak shapes in the fitting process. The experimental reference particles in the testing were artificially produced U particles of diameter 1.4mum and a nuclear bomb particle with a twenty-fold greater diameter, mainly composed of U and Pu dioxides. AASIFIT was used to determine the density of the U particles. In addition, the activities of (239+240)Pu and (241)Am were determined for the nuclear bomb particle and compared to earlier determinations in the literature. The results of this investigation demonstrated that the software can be used to estimate the properties of particles emitting alpha radiation. However, the composition and geometry of the investigated particles need to be known with good accuracy for reliable estimates. Furthermore, uncertainties in the stopping power data, especially for U and Pu, may have an influence on the results obtained from the software.

  • Establishing the European diagnostic reference levels for interventional cardiology
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physica medica (Testo stampato). - : ELSEVIER SCI LTD. - 1120-1797 .- 1724-191X. ; 54, s. 42-48
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Interventional cardiac procedures may be associated with high patient doses and therefore require special attention to protect the patients from radiation injuries such as skin erythema, cardiovascular tissue reactions or radiation-induced cancer. In this study, patient exposure data is collected from 13 countries (37 clinics and nearly 50 interventional rooms) and for 10 different procedures. Dose data was collected from a total of 14,922 interventional cardiology procedures. Based on these data European diagnostic reference levels (DRL) for air kerma-area product are suggested for coronary angiography (CA, DRL = 35 Gy cm(2)), percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI, 85 Gy cm(2)), transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI, 130 Gy cm(2)), electrophysiological procedures (12 Gy cm(2)) and pacemaker implantations Pacemaker implantations were further divided into single-chamber (2.5 Gy cm(2)) and dual chamber (3.5 Gy cm(2)) procedures and implantations of cardiac resynchronization therapy pacemaker (18 Gy cm(2)). Results show that relatively new techniques such as TAVI and treatment of chronic total occlusion (CTO) often produce relatively high doses, and thus emphasises the need for use of an optimization tool such as DRL to assist in reducing patient exposure. The generic DRL presented here facilitate comparison of patient exposure in interventional cardiology.
