  • Pedagogisk forskning i antropocen
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Pedagogisk forskning i Sverige. - : Linnaeus University. - 1401-6788 .- 2001-3345. ; 27:3, s. 4-11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • Airspace dimension assessment with nanoparticles as a proposed biomarker for emphysema
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Thorax. - : BMJ. - 0040-6376 .- 1468-3296. ; 76:10, s. 1040-1043
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Airspace dimension assessment with nanoparticles (AiDA) is a novel method to measure distal airspace radius non-invasively. In this study, AiDA radii were measured in 618 individuals from the population-based Swedish CArdiopulmonary BioImaging Study, SCAPIS. Subjects with emphysema detected by computed tomography were compared to non-emphysematous subjects. The 47 individuals with mainly mild-to-moderate visually detected emphysema had significantly larger AiDA radii, compared with non-emphysematous subjects (326±48 μm vs 291±36 μm); OR for emphysema per 10 μm: 1.22 (1.13-1.30, p<0.0001). Emphysema according to CT densitometry was similarly associated with larger radii compared with non-emphysematous CT examinations (316±41 μm vs 291 μm±26 μm); OR per 10 μm: 1.16 (1.08-1.24, p<0.0001). The results are in line with comparable studies. The results show that AiDA is a potential biomarker for emphysema in individuals in the general population.

  • Rasbiologiskt språkbruk i statens rättsprocess mot sameby : DN Debatt 2015-06-11
  • 2015
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract

  • Owner-manager when death do us part - roles of a widow in sudden succession in family firms
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Family Business Management. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 2043-6238 .- 2043-6246. ; 13:2, s. 432-452
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeThis study sheds light on a hitherto understudied group in family business literature: widows. We explore the roles a widow may take following the unexpected death of her owner-manager spouse when she had no salient role in the business prior to the death.Design/methodology/approachWe used a qualitative approach to research, to study inductively the roles considered and taken by three widows who unexpectedly succeeded as owners of Swedish privately held family firms. We conducted semi-structured interviews with widows and children in top management.FindingsWe construct a typology of four main roles a widow can take and analyse the underlying dimensions that they represent. We also analyse to which extent the choice of role widow can be explained by psychological ownership and double-loss theory. The typology can be used as a tool for family business owners and their advisors as the basis of an open and non-prejudiced discussion of the choices available to a widow.Originality/valueWe have investigated the factors that influence a widow's decision whether to take over the business or not, as suggested in previous research by, for example, Martinez et al. (2009). We explore the roles a widow can consider and adopt. The study advances our understanding of how businesses can remain as family firms also in the event of the unexpected death of an owner-manager (De Massis et al., 2008). We hereby contribute to the literature on sudden successions and on women in family businesses.

  • Exploratory neutron tomography of articular cartilage
  • Ingår i: Osteoarthritis and Cartilage. - 1063-4584.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To investigate the feasibility of using neutron tomography to gain new knowledge of human articular cartilage degeneration in osteoarthritis (OA). Different sample preparation techniques were evaluated to identify maximum intra-tissue contrast. Design: Human articular cartilage samples from 14 deceased donors (18–75 years, 9 males, 5 females) and 4 patients undergoing total knee replacement due to known OA (all female, 61–75 years) were prepared using different techniques: control in saline, treated with heavy water saline, fixed and treated in heavy water saline, and fixed and dehydrated with ethanol. Neutron tomographic imaging (isotropic voxel sizes from 7.5 to 13.5 µm) was performed at two large scale facilities. The 3D images were evaluated for gradients in hydrogen attenuation as well as compared to images from absorption X-ray tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and histology. Results: Cartilage was distinguishable from background and other tissues in neutron tomographs. Intra-tissue contrast was highest in heavy water-treated samples, which showed a clear gradient from the cartilage surface to the bone interface. Increased neutron flux or exposure time improved image quality but did not affect the ability to detect gradients. Samples from older donors showed high variation in gradient profile, especially from donors with known OA. Conclusions: Neutron tomography is a viable technique for specialized studies of cartilage, particularly for quantifying properties relating to the hydrogen density of the tissue matrix or water movement in the tissue.

  • WHO Grade Loses Its Prognostic Value in Molecularly Defined Diffuse Lower-Grade Gliomas.
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Oncology. - : Frontiers Media S.A.. - 2234-943X. ; 11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: While molecular insights to diffuse lower-grade glioma (dLGG) have improved the basis for prognostication, most established clinical prognostic factors come from the pre-molecular era. For instance, WHO grade as a predictor for survival in dLGG with isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation has recently been questioned. We studied the prognostic role of WHO grade in molecularly defined subgroups and evaluated earlier used prognostic factors in the current molecular setting.Material and Methods: A total of 253 adults with morphological dLGG, consecutively included between 2007 and 2018, were assessed. IDH mutations, codeletion of chromosomal arms 1p/19q, and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A/B (CDKN2A/B) deletions were analyzed. Results: There was no survival benefit for patients with WHO grade 2 over grade 3 IDH-mut dLGG after exclusion of tumors with known CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion (n=157) (log-rank p=0.97). This was true also after stratification for oncological postoperative treatment and when astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas were analyzed separately. In IDH-mut astrocytomas, residual tumor volume after surgery was an independent prognostic factor for survival (HR 1.02; 95% CI 1.01-1.03; p=0.003), but not in oligodendrogliomas (HR 1.02; 95% CI 1.00-1.03; p=0.15). Preoperative tumor size was an independent predictor in both astrocytomas (HR 1.03; 95% CI 1.00-1.05; p=0.02) and oligodendrogliomas (HR 1.05; 95% CI 1.01-1.09; p=0.01). Age was not a significant prognostic factor in multivariable analyses (astrocytomas p=0.64, oligodendrogliomas p=0.08).Conclusion: Our findings suggest that WHO grade is not a robust prognostic factor in molecularly well-defined dLGG. Preoperative tumor size remained a prognostic factor in both IDH-mut astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas in our cohort, whereas residual tumor volume predicted prognosis in IDH-mut astrocytomas only. The age cutoffs for determining high risk in patients with IDH-mut dLGG from the pre-molecular era are not supported by our results.

  • Parents’ school-market-anxiety as a manifestation of ideology: A post-Marxist vocabulary for parenting in a late capitalist educational landscape
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: NERA 2023 Conference program. - Oslo.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • It is widely recognized that the Swedish educational landscape has undergone major changes in the past three decades. In fact, Sweden is now commonly referred to as having the most de-regulated school system in the world. The change of the educational landscape has taken place together with a general transformation of the entire welfare system in Sweden, guided by neoliberal ideology in which decentralization and marketization were core features. This restructuring was launched in the early nineties with competition, privatization, accountability, and school choice as steering mechanisms aiming for quality improvement and efficiency. In this paper, we grapple with our personal experiences of this development by investigating how this educational capitalism have permeated our minds, focusing on the feeling of school-market-anxiety, which we both have experienced in our role as parents. We aim to share, critically analyze, and put into context some of the experiences we have had of being approached as consumers of education for our own children and the affective dimensions of these experiences. When writing this paper, we both merged and compared our different experiences in a style inspired by the feminist premise that the personal is political, and that awareness-rising of ideological oppression can emerge from sharing and discussing personal experiences. We do this by critically compare notes of urban parenting in late capitalist educational landscape in the Swedish cities Gothenburg and Malmö, inspired by an autoethnographical methodology (Reed-Danahay, 2009). The purpose here is to understand and make sense of our feelings of anxiety as inherently shaped by a neutralization of capitalist ideology (see e.g., Bauman, 1999). We specifically lean on the work of Mark Fischer (2009), Slavoj Žižek (2008), Jason Glyson (2021), and Matthew Clarke (2020) to critically examine the seemingly neutral state of unconscious parental anxiety in late capitalism. To put our work in a critical (post-)Marxist terminology we are particularly interested in understanding how we, as parents of school children, are ‘interpellated’ (Althusser, 1971) by the ideology supporting the current reality of late capitalist education. Our question throughout this paper is: How can school-market-anxiety, from the perspective of parents’ experiences, be conceptualized as a manifestation of ideology, what consequences can be discerned and what can we do about it? We argue for the need of critical concepts from a psychoanalytical (post-)Marxist tradition that can help us understand – and resist – the increasingly strong grip that a that a capitalist ideology has on contemporary Swedish education and its different actors, and increasingly, throughout all Nordic countries. Both of us have an academic background in critical education studies, and we have previously published on the marketization of education. However, in our previous attempts to understand marketization we have neglected parents’ school-market-anxiety, and our own role as prospective consumers of education within the late modern educational capitalism of Sweden.

  • A retrospective evaluation of zirconia-fixed partial dentures in general practices : an up to 13-year study
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Dental Materials. - : Elsevier BV. - 0109-5641 .- 1879-0097. ; 31:2, s. 162-170
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives: To evaluate zirconia-based fixed partial dentures (FPDs) after more than 8 years in clinical service. Methods: Patients treated between 2000 and 2004 with zirconia FPDs were identified from the records of a manufacturer of FPD substructures. Of the 45 patients who met the inclusion criteria 30 attended the appointment and 33 FPDs were evaluated using modified California Dental Association (CDA) criteria. In addition, plaque and the bleeding index were registered. Patient satisfaction with the restorations was evaluated using a 10-point visual analog scale (VAS).Results: All the FPDs were made using CAD/CAM and hot isostatic pressed yttria-tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (HIPed Y-TZP) ceramic (Denzir) and were placed within general practices. The mean observation period was 9.6 ± 1.6 years (range 3.0–13.1 years). The CDA rating was 90% satisfactory for the surface. Corresponding figures for anatomic form, color and margin integrity were 94%, 100% and 94%, respectively. Regarding surface three (9.7%) FPDs exhibited veneer chipping and were rated ‘not acceptable’. For margin integrity two (6.5%) were rated ‘not acceptable’ because of caries. For anatomic form two (6.1%) were rated ‘not acceptable’ due to two lost FPDs. No significant differences were seen between the FPDs and controls for plaque and bleeding. The Kaplan–Meier survival rate (still in clinical function) was 94%, the success rate (technical events accounted for) 91% and (biological events accounted for) 73%. Based on the VAS the mean value for patient satisfaction was 9.3 ± 1.2.Significance: Ninety-four percent of the FPDs were still in clinical function. HIPed Y-TZP could serve as an alternative for FPD treatments similar to those in the current study.
