  • The Beaker phenomenon and the genomic transformation of northwest Europe
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nature. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 555:7695, s. 190-196
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • From around 2750 to 2500 bc, Bell Beaker pottery became widespread across western and central Europe, before it disappeared between 2200 and 1800 bc. The forces that propelled its expansion are a matter of long-standing debate, and there is support for both cultural diffusion and migration having a role in this process. Here we present genome-wide data from 400 Neolithic, Copper Age and Bronze Age Europeans, including 226 individuals associated with Beaker-complex artefacts. We detected limited genetic affinity between Beaker-complex-associated individuals from Iberia and central Europe, and thus exclude migration as an important mechanism of spread between these two regions. However, migration had a key role in the further dissemination of the Beaker complex. We document this phenomenon most clearly in Britain, where the spread of the Beaker complex introduced high levels of steppe-related ancestry and was associated with the replacement of approximately 90% of Britain's gene pool within a few hundred years, continuing the east-to-west expansion that had brought steppe-related ancestry into central and northern Europe over the previous centuries.

  • Image extra-coregistration based on GIP for radar applications
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - 2022 RIVF International Conference on Computing and Communication Technologies, RIVF 2022. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9781665461665 ; , s. 274-278
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Image coregistration is a mandatory procedure for radar applications such as synthetic aperture radar change detection. The spatial coregistration can be easily handled with geo-reference, whereas radiometric coregistration requires much more effort due to the randomness of noise and clutter. The performance of a coregistration method is usually measured by the correlation coefficient that is desire to be close to unity. However, the currently used methods cannot provide coregistration with such correlation coefficient value. The paper introduces an image extra-coregistration method that helps to increase the correlation coefficient between the radar images close to unity. This strongly supports radar applications such as change detection. © 2022 IEEE.

  • Implementing Backprojection at Base Station for Precise Localization in Indoor Environment
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - 2023 RIVF International Conference on Computing and Communication Technologies, RIVF 2023. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9798350315844 ; , s. 212-217
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mobile equipment with an integrated radar system allows active localization by realizing monostatic, bistatic, multistatic and passive SAR. For mobile user localization, it is also possible by implementing backprojection at base station. In the paper, an approach for precise mobile user localization by implementing backprojection at base station is proposed. The simulation shows the feasibility of the proposal. Some technical issues such as accuracy and backprojection ambiguity, are also addressed. The practicality of the proposal is also demonstrated with a practical frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar system and a monostatic radar measurement based on the system. © 2023 IEEE.

  • Change Detection for Monostatic Pursuit SAR GMTI-Theories and Experimental Results
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 0196-2892 .- 1558-0644. ; 60
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Monostatic pursuit refers to the operating mode formed by two monostatic synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems that follow an identical orbit with a separation in a time of several seconds. The detected changes between SAR scenes with several seconds of time difference are most likely the changes caused by ground moving targets. Hence, this operating mode opens an opportunity to detect ground moving targets by SAR change detection methods. This article investigates this possibility to detect ground moving targets using change detection and to combine change detection and ground moving target indication (GMTI) for GMTI. In this combination, a GMTI method will help to classify the detected changes obtained with a change detection method. Some GMTI results are provided in the article based on the measurements in the monostatic pursuit mode with deployed targets, conducted by TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X in Sweden in early 2015.

  • New Forms of Likelihood Ratio Test for SAR Change Detection
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: IEEE Access. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 2169-3536. ; 9, s. 127906-127916
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Neyman-Pearson lemma, i.e., the likelihood ratio test and its generalized version, have been used for the development of the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) change detection methods. For detecting changes caused by targets on the ground such as vehicles, a target model, or at least certain assumptions concerning the targets, are always required for deriving a statistical hypothesis test. Without the prior knowledge on targets, it is difficult to make any assumption. An inappropriate assumption can degrade change detection performance significantly. To avoid this technical issue, the new forms of likelihood ratio test for SAR change detection are introduced in this paper. The proposed forms are shown to be very flexible. They can be utilized to develop change detection methods for different types of data, e.g., data in scalar form, data in vector form, data represented in complex number, and data represented in real number. The flexibility of the proposed forms is also shown by the the capability to implement change detection methods in the iterative and non-iterative ways. For the illustration purpose, a new change detection method is developed on one of the introduced forms and tested using TanDEM-X data measured in Karlshamn, Sweden in 2016. Author

  • Realizing SAR for Localization on Mobile Equipment with Integrated Radar System
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2023 IEEE International Conference on Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence, and Communications Technology, IAICT 2023. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9798350313635 ; , s. 18-24
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The sub-THz and THz frequency ranges, that have been designated for astronomy and military, are now considered for the next generation of cellular networks. Radar systems operating in these frequency ranges are popular. Sharing the same radio frequency (RF) resources of cellular networks and radar systems opens the great potential to integrate radar system on mobile equipment. With this integration, the radar applications based on detection and ranging are available for mobile equipment. Realizing synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is also possible due to the movement of the mobile equipment that helps to synthesize an aperture larger than the physical aperture of the mobile equipment. Precise active localization in indoor environment is therefore feasible. The paper presents a discussion about active localization by realizing monostatic, bistatic, multistatic and passive SAR on mobile equipment with an integrated radar system. The simulation and experiment results shows the feasibility of the proposal. © 2023 IEEE.
