  • Passing the buck: transferring unanticipated purchasing costs to suppliers and customers
  • 2015
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Unanticipated procurement costs due to changes in input factors’ market prices and exchange rates are an increasing issue for manufacturers. A popular strategy is transferring these price increases to the supply chain. Based on 12 interviews and a follow-up study, we identified the main enablers for manufacturers to do so.

  • Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on stock price performance of blockchain-based companies
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Ekonomska Istrazivanja. - : Taylor & Francis Group. - 1331-677X .- 1848-9664. ; 35:1, s. 3206-3224
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The price of a stock rises or falls in relation to a number of different factors, including changes to the economy brought about by pandemics. A few studies have already identified the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the stock market. However, empirical evidence is lacking on changes in stock price performance of blockchain-based companies as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We use the event study approach to estimate stock expected returns by applying an asset pricing model over a thirty-day event window around the announcement on March 11, 2020 by the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as a global pandemic, using a sample of S&P Global 1200 companies. Overall, our results indicate more sensitivity in blockchain-based companies' stock prices to the COVID-19 pandemic compared to those of non-blockchain-based companies. Cumulative abnormal returns show that the stock price of blockchain-based companies recover losses slower than non-blockchain companies. Our findings are important for investors and shareholders for future pandemics and events.

  • Digitalization driven retail business model innovation: Evaluation of past and avenues for future research trends
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 146, s. 134-145
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Increased digitalization enabled innovation and practical examples from the retail industry have captured the attention of marketing scholars, with rapid development in the academic field. The pace of change has significantly accelerated during the Covid-19 crisis. In seeking to (1) investigate the unique characteristics of digitalization enabled retail business model innovation, (2) understand how does digitalization influences changes to the retail business model innovation dimensions, and (3) identify the areas for future research related to retail business model innovation, this study systematically reviews the literature. Employing four databases, a sample of 170 articles were chosen. Based on bibliometric and network analysis and visualization, the major researchers, articles, and topics were rigorously identified. Finally, the results revealed the unaddressed issues in this research area. The study ends with theoretical and managerial implications.

  • The effect of country level factors on the trade-off between cost and flexibility in mass customization
  • 2015
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Insufficient attention has been paid to both the relationship between mass customization capability and operational performance and the contingency factors affecting this relationship. We propose a model that conceptualizes the relationship between mass customization capability, flexibility performance, and cost performance. The hypotheses are empirically tested using data collected from 5th round of GMRG and secondary data obtained from World Bank and UNIDO. The results show that mass customization capability positively impacts both flexibility performance and cost performance. In addition, national logistics performance and a country’s risk level impact the relationship between mass customization capability and cost performance in different ways.

  • The impact of investments in innovation practices on competitive advantage.
  • 2014
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In an increasingly competitive environment, technical innovation in products and processes is by a vast number of manufacturing companies regarded as one of the most powerful enablers to differentiate from competitors and achieve competitive advantage. Accordingly, some manufacturing companies spend significant amounts of investments in innovation projects. In this paper, we examine the relationship between financial investments in innovation practices and competitive advantage. The results show that there is not a significant correlation between both constructs and higher financial investments do not necessarily lead to an increased competitive advantage.

  • Social responsible supply chain and packaging - A conceptual framework
  • 2013
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose - To provide an integrative framework by developing a conceptual model of driving factors and outcomes of Socially Responsible Supply Chain-based orientation (SRSC) and the incorporation of this orientation to the Socially Responsible packaging. Design/methodology/approach - By reviewing the literature in SCM, Packaging, marketing and CSR, appropriate constructs and related scale items were identified. Then, a panel of experts from academia and industry were consulted due to further improvements of the design of the study. Findings - To this point, resources and capabilities as driving factors have been largely left unexplored and the effect of these forces on socially responsible supply chain-based orientation, packaging and competitive advantage are brought to surface as further fruitful perspectives for future research. Research limitations/implications (if applicable) - This research mainly addresses the managerial issues and assists industrial managers to better steer theirs supply chain management and packaging decisions in order to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. Practical implications - Pre-existence of strategic resources could trigger a socially responsible supply chain and packaging orientation that in fact affect the competitive advantage for the entire supply chain. Social implications - Social responsibility can only yield positive benefits to competitive advantage as an opportunity and is truly embedded within the organization and developed according to the corporations and the supply chains characteristics. Originality/value - This paper provides an inimitable conceptual model, which merges two areas and provide a comprehensible proposal for future multi-disciplinary research in CSR and Packaging.

  • An Improved Supplier Driven Packaging Design and Development Method for Supply Chain Efficiency
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Packaging technology & science. - : Wiley. - 0894-3214 .- 1099-1522. ; 29:3, s. 161-173
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Packaging and the role it plays in supply chain efficiency are overlooked in most design and development research. An opportunity exists to meet the needs of supply chains to increase efficiency. This research presents three propositions on how to reduce the gap between supply chain needs and satisfaction in interaction with the product and packaging system. It also proposes a supply chain focused packaging design and development method to better satisfy supply chain needs placed on packaging. An extensive literature review was conducted, and a Tetra Pak derived case study was developed. The propositions were formulated and became the basis for improving Tetra Pak's existing packaging design and development method by better integrating supply chain needs. This was accomplished by using an expanded operational life cycle perspective that includes the entire supply chain. The resulting supply chain focused packaging design, and development method enables improved supply chain efficiency while considering the product, the processes and cost. • Design and Development of Packaging in Supply Chain Management : A Case Study
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Developments in Marketing Science : Proceedings of the Academy of Marketing Science - Proceedings of the Academy of Marketing Science. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 2363-6165 .- 2363-6173. - 9783319364711 - 9783319109510 - 9783319109503 ; , s. 342-345
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Achieving effectiveness and efficiency in supply chains is one of the focus areas for industry as well as for academic research. One way to achieve these goals is to design and develop product and packaging systems (See Figure 1) which can meet the needs of different actors in the supply chain. Packaging, as an interface between the supply chain and its main customers (the end users), affects supply chain effectiveness (Klevås and Saghir, 2004). Moreover, from an efficiency standpoint packaging is defined as a “techno-economic function aimed at minimizing costs of delivery while maximizing sales (and hence profit)” (Paine, 1981).
