    • Länsstyrelsen i Örebro län har under åren 2002-2004 inventerat länets ängs- och betesmarker. Inventeringen har skett på Jordbruksverkets och Regeringens uppdrag inom ramen för det internationella projektet ”Inventering av värdefulla ängs- och betesmarker” (Ä&B). Urvalet har varit marker med tilläggsersättning i miljöstödet för betesmark och slåtterängar, marker som var med vid Ängs- och hagmarksinventeringen som utfördes 1987 – 1991 samt mark som uppmärksammats som värde-full i något avseende. Arealen inventerade betesmarker och ängar i Örebro län är 5181 ha fördelat på 1405 skiften. I länet uppgår betesmarken till 4994 ha (128 skiften), ängsmarken utgör 186 ha (124 skiften). I betesmarken ingår 76 ha (24 skiften) skogsbetesmark. Restaurerbara marker uppskattas till 85 skiften och uppgår till en areal av 251 ha. De flesta bedöms som restaurerbara därför att de fortfarande har floravärden. Markerna har också bedömts som restaurerbara för sin kultur- eller vattenmiljö samt för att de innehåller värdefulla träd.

  • Hypothalamic dysfunction revealed by magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging in childhood leukemia survivors treated with cranial radiotherapy but not in craniopharyngeoma survivors

    • Background: Metabolic complications with obesity are frequent in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) survivors treated with cranial radiotherapy (CRT). Childhood onset Craniopharyngioma (CP) survivors without hypothalamic (HT) involvement are spared gross obesity. Magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) provides information of microstructure function of the brain and quantified as fractional anisotrophy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD), axial and radial diffusivity (AD, RD). Since MD in HT is reportedly impaired (increased) in obese compared to non-obese subjects, we investigated DTI in the HT.Methods: Twenty nine ALL survivors on hormone supplementation were investigated 34 years after CRT (24 Gy). 17 CO-CP survivors with hormone supplementation but without HT damage were investigated. Comparisons were made with these two patient populations to 27 matched controls regarding DTI parameters in the HT and for BMI, fat mass, fat free mass and waist/hip measurements.Results: We recorded reduced FA (0.27 vs 0.29, P=0.04), and increased MD (1.13 vs 1.00, P<0.001), AD (1.41 vs 1.25, P<0.001), and RD (0.99 vs 0.86, P<0.001) in the right HT and increased MD (1.42 vs 1.25, P<0.001), AD (1.75 vs 1.58, P<0.001), and RD (1.25 vs 1.04, P<0.001) in left HT in ALL survivors compared to matched controls. The CPs showed no difference in the HT for these parameters compared to controls. ALL survivors with a BMI ≥ 25 showed elevated MD (P=0.03) and AD (P=0.02) compared to ALL survivors with a BMI < 25 and compared to controls with BMI ≥ 25 in the right HT. This was not the case in CP survivors or in controls.Conclusions: Thirty four years after CRT for ALL, DTI measures are deranged in the HT. ALL survivors with a BMI ≥ 25 were presented with worse HT dysfunction. CP survivors were unaffected. The present data suggests changes in the microstructure of the HT in these ALL survivors.

  • Microstructural white matter alterations associated to neurocognitive deficits in childhood leukemia survivors treated with cranial radiotherapy–a diffusional kurtosis study

    • Background: Cranial radiotherapy (CRT) is a known risk factor for neurocognitive impairment in survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and diffusional kurtosis imaging (DKI) are MRI techniques that quantify microstructural changes in brain white matter (WM) and DKI is regarded as the more sensitive of them. Our aim was to more thoroughly understand the nature of cognitive deficits after cranial radiotherapy (CRT) in adulthood after childhood ALL. Material and methods: Thirty-eight (21 women) ALL survivors, median age 38 (27–46) years, were investigated at median 34 years after diagnosis. All had been treated with a CRT dose of 24 Gy and with 11 years of complete hormone supplementation. DTI and DKI parameters were determined and neurocognitive tests were performed in ALL survivors and 29 matched controls. Results: ALL survivors scored lower than controls in neurocognitive tests of vocabulary, memory, learning capacity, spatial ability, executive functions, and attention (p <.001). The survivors had altered DTI parameters in the fornix, uncinate fasciculus, and ventral cingulum (all p <.05) and altered DKI parameters in the fornix, uncinate fasciculus, and dorsal and ventral cingulum (p <.05). Altered DTI parameters in the fornix were associated with impaired episodic verbal memory (r = −0.40, p <.04). The left and right uncinate fasciculus (r = 0.6, p <.001), (r = −0.5, p <.02) as well as the right ventral cingulum (r = 0.5, p <.007) were associated with impaired episodic visual memory. Altered DKI parameters in the fornix, right uncinate fasciculus (r = 0.3, r = 0.05, p =.02), and ventral cingulum (r = 0.3, p =.02) were associated with impaired results of episodic visual memory. Conclusion: ALL survivors with cognitive deficits demonstrated microstructural damage in several WM tracts that were more extensive with DKI as compared to DTI; this might be a marker of radiation and chemotherapy neurotoxicity underlying cognitive dysfunction.

    • Objective: Metabolic complications are frequent in childhood leukaemia (ALL) survivors treated with cranial radiotherapy (CRT). These complications are potentially mediated by damage to the hypothalamus (HT), as childhood onset (CO) craniopharyngioma (CP) survivors without HT involvement are spared overt obesity. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) shows brain tissue microstructure alterations, by fractional anisotrophy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD), axial diffusivity (AD) and radial diffusivity (RD). We used DTI to determine the integrity of the microstructure of the HT in ALL survivors. Design: Case-control study. Patients: Three groups were included: (i) 27 CRT treated ALL survivors on hormone supplementation, (ii) 17 CO-CP survivors on hormone supplementation but without HT involvement and (iii) 27 matched controls. Measurements: DTI parameters of the HT were measured and body composition. Results: Microstructural alterations in the HT were more severe in ALL survivors with a BMI ≥25 than with BMI <25. Compared to controls, ALL survivors had reduced FA (P=.04), increased MD (P<.001), AD (P<.001) and RD (P<.001) in the right and left HT. In the right HT, ALL survivors with a BMI ≥25 showed elevated MD (P=.03) and AD (P=.02) compared to ALL survivors with BMI <25. In contrast, DTI parameters did not differ between CP survivors and controls. Conclusions: Long-term follow-up after CRT for ALL DTI measures were affected in the HT despite complete hormone replacement. The present data suggest that ALL survivors have demyelination and axonal loss in the HT.

    • Combustion of an increasing amount of biofuel and waste woods has resulted in certainenvironmental advantages, including decreased emissions of fossil CO2, SO2 andmetals. On the other hand, a number of chloride and alkali related operational problemshave occurred which are related to combustion of these fuels.Alkali related operational problems have been studied in a project consisting of twoparts. The overall scope has been to characterise the operational problems and to studymeasures to minimise them. The first part was reported in Värmeforsk report 997 wherethe results were summarised in a table of different measures. In part two, additionalmeasures have been included in the test plan and initial corrosion has been studiedlinked to the different measures. The tests have also in part two been carried out at the12 MW CFB boiler at Chalmers. The effect of the selected measures has beeninvestigated concerning both deposit formation and bed agglomeration, and at the sametime emissions and other operational conditions were characterised.The second part of the project has among other things focused on:• To investigate measures which decrease the content of alkali and chloride in thedeposits, and consequently decrease the risk for corrosion (by investigating theinitial corrosion). Focus was also on trying to explain favourable effects.• To investigate if it is possible to combine a rather low dosage of kaolin and injectionof ammonium sulphate. This was done in order to reduce both bed agglomerationand problems from deposits during combustion of fuels rich in chlorine.• To investigate if co-combustion with sewage sludge, de-inking sludge or peat withhigh ash content, could give similar advantages as conventional additives.• Investigate if ash from PFBC is possible to use as an alternative bed material.By comparing the different measures in part two, it could be concluded that cocombustionof sewage sludge gave the best overall effect. The judgement was based onthe effects concerning bed agglomeration, level of alkali chloride in the flue gas,deposits and initial corrosion. Simultaneous addition of kaolin and ammonia sulphatealso had a favourable impact both in the bed and on the alkali chlorides in the gas phase.Dosage of kaolin did not reduce the effect of injected ammonium sulphate. Cocombustionof peat could also be a very attractive alternative, but it is critical to select asuitable peat type. It is of special concern to avoid peat with a high content of calcium,since it can increase the level of alkali chlorides by reacting with available sulphur.Change of bed material to ash from PFBC can decrease problems with bedagglomeration, but there is a risk of increased deposit formation and corrosion. A boileroperated with high steam data should consequently combine the change of bed materialwith injection of ammonium sulphate or another source of sulphur.Co-combustion of de-inking sludge from pulp and paper production can reduceproblems with bed agglomeration. There is, however, an increased chance of corrosiondue to the high content of calcium. Injection of sulphates may improve the situationconcerning corrosion. The results also showed that low potassium chlorine content in the flue gas decreasesthe risk of corrosion. Increased amount of potassium chlorine content in the flue gaswill not necessary give a high amount of chlorine content in the deposits if there is sulphur in the system.Key words: agglomeration, deposits, corrosion, alkali, kaolin, ammonium sulphate,sludge

    • Denna rapport har tagits fram av Havsmiljöinstitutet på uppdrag av Havs- och vattenmyndigheten, som en del av arbetet med Ekosystembaserad havsförvaltning. Uppdraget är att undersöka möjliga finansieringsmodeller som kan stödja långsiktig regional ekosystembaserad havsförvaltning. Genom att analysera hur finansiering fungerar i liknande projekt och initiativ kan en förståelse för styrkor och hinder med olika modeller utkristalliseras. I arbetet ingår också att ge en tydlig bild av hur dessa organisationer fungerar.Uppdraget innefattar en detaljerad beskrivning och analys av olika typer av samarbetsorganisationer, grundad i följande punkter (Överenskommelse gällande kartläggning av regionala samverkansprojekts styrning och finansiering, 2023):• “Organisationens omfattning: Detta inkluderar information om organisationens storlek, antalet heltidstjänster som finansieras av organisationen, och hur många som är involverade i dess verksamhet.• Styrningsstruktur: En beskrivning av hur organisationens styrning är utformad, hur beslut fattas, och vilka som är ansvariga för olika delar av verksamheten.• Finansiering: En utförlig beskrivning av organisationens finansiering. Detta inkluderar hur stor del av finansieringen som kommer från grundfinansiering och hur stor del som genereras genom projektmedel.• Uppfattade framgångsnycklar och eventuella svårigheter med fokus på organisationens omfattning, styrningsstruktur och finansiering.”Genom att undersöka och framställa dessa aspekter kommer uppdraget att skapa en djup förståelse för strukturerna, styrningen och finansieringen hos olika samverkansorganisationer.

  • Cognitive interference processing in adult survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia using functional magnetic resonance imaging

    • Background: Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is associated with cognitive impairment in adulthood. Cognitive interference processing and its correlated functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) activity in the brain have not yet been studied in this patient group.Material: Twenty-six adult childhood ALL survivors (median [interquartile range {IQR}] age, 40.0 [37.0-42.3] years) were investigated at median age (IQR), 35.0 (32.0-37.0) years after treatment with intrathecal and intravenous chemotherapy as well as cranial radiotherapy (24 Gy) and compared with 26 matched controls (median [IQR] age, 37.5 [33.0-41.5] years).Methods: Cognitive interference processing was investigated in terms of behavioral performance (response times [ms] and accuracy performance [%]) and fMRI activity in the cingulo-fronto-parietal (CFP) attention network as well as other parts of the brain using the multisource interference task (MSIT).Results: ALL survivors had longer response times and reduced accuracy performance during cognitive interference processing (median [IQR] interference effect, 371.9 [314.7-453.3] ms and 6.7 [4.2-14.7]%, respectively) comparedwith controls (303.7 [275.0-376.7] ms and 2.3 [1.6-4.3]%, respectively), but did not exhibit altered fMRI activity in the CFP attention network or elsewhere in the brain.Conclusion: Adult childhood ALL survivors demonstrated impaired behavioral performance but no altered fMRI activity when performing cognitive interference processing when compared with controls. The results can be used to better characterize this patient group and to optimize follow-up care and support for these individuals.
