  • Interstitial photodynamic therapy - diagnostic measurements and treatment in rat malignant experimental tumours
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: OPTICAL BIOPSY AND TISSUE OPTICS. - : SPIE. - 1996-756X .- 0277-786X. - 0819438170 ; 4161:32, s. 151-157
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A recently developed multiple fibre system for treating malignant tumours with interstitial photodynamic therapy was used in studies on rats with colon adenocarcinoma inoculated into the muscles of the hind legs. The animals were intraperitonially administrated delta -aminolevulinic acid (ALA), which is metabolised to protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) in the tissue. The treatment system consists of a laser light source, a beam-splitting system dividing the light into three or six output fibres and a dosimetry programme calculating the optimal fibre position within the tumour as well as the treatment time needed to obtain a given threshold value of the light dose. One aim of the study was to compare the treatment outcome with the modelled dosimetry predictions. Tumour reduction was examined three days post treatment. A volume decrease was found in 85\% of the treated tumours. The mean volume reduction was 44\%, with one tumour completely disappearing. Histopathological examination three days post treatment showed substantial necrotic parts which, however, to a smaller extent were present also for non-treated tumours. These results indicated that the tumours have been under treated and the light dose has to be increased. Measurements of the build-up and photo-induced bleaching of PpIX using laser-induced fluorescence were also performed during the experiments.

  • Modeling Results of the Quench Behavior of a Nb-Ti Canted-Cosine-Theta Corrector Magnet for LHC
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity (Print). - : IEEE. - 1051-8223 .- 1558-2515. ; 34:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A newly designed superconducting magnet of the Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) type was developed as a result of a collaboration between Swedish universities (Uppsala and Linneaus) and Swedish industries. This magnet was designed to function as a replacement of the present LHC orbit corrector magnets, which are approaching their end of life due to the radiation load. As a result, the new CCT magnet was developed to be more radiation tolerant and to constitute a one-to-one replacement to the currently installed version, which is a 1 m long 70 mm double aperture dipole magnet. The final magnet, which is currently under construction, will be tested at FREIA laboratory at Uppsala University and generate a magnetic field of 3.3 T and an integrated field of 2.8 Tm at about 85 A. To examine the magnet quench behavior and to identify a suitable quench protection system, the 3D electro-magnetic and thermal behavior of the coil was modeled using the RAT-Raccoon software. Based on the simulation results, a Metrosil varistor was selected to protect the magnet during the test. In this article, we report the results of the numerical analysis. The magnet model is equipped with a spot heater to initialize the quench and the temperature and voltages are monitored during the avalanche effect. The simulated current decay and the hot-spot temperature are analyzed with a focus on the impact of quench-back on the magnet protection.

  • The FERRUM project: new experimental and theoretical f-values for 4p-4d transitions in FeII applied to HST spectra of chi Lupi
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Astronomy & Astrophysics. - 0004-6361. ; 362:1, s. 410-418
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Radiative lifetimes for six highly excited levels in Fe II have been measured at Lund Laser Centre applying the laser induced fluorescence technique and two-step excitation. The energy levels belong to the even-parity 3d(6)(D-5)(4)d subconfiguration at about 10 eV. Branching fractions (BF:s) of 29 transitions from these levels to the 3d(6)(D-5)4p subconfiguration at about 5 eV have been measured in the wavelength region 2000-3000 Angstrom with the Lund Fourier Transform Spectrometer. By normalizing the BF:s with the lifetimes we get experimental oscillator strengths for these 29 4p-4d lines. The oscillator strengths are compared with new theoretical calculations using the orthogonal operator technique and applied to high-resolution spectra of the star chi Lupi, recorded with the Hubble Space Telescope.
