  • Assessing the impact of human activities on hydrological and sediment changes (1953–2000) in nine major catchments of the Loess Plateau, China
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Rivers Research and Applications. - : Wiley. - 1535-1459 .- 1535-1467. ; 26:3, s. 322-340
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Range of Variability Approach (RVA) is employed to investigate the variability and spatial patterns of hydrological and sediment changes (1953-2000) induced by intensified human activities, i.e. the implementation of water and soil conservation measures, in nine major catchments of the Loess Plateau, China. Results indicate that: (1) streamflow and sediment load regimes were greatly changed by the implementation of conservation measures; (2) similar spatial patterns of high hydrological and sediment changes resulting from the intensive implementation of conservation measures are observed in most catchments of the middle Yellow River. However, slightly different behaviours of changes exist due to the unique complexity of hydrological and sediment processes in this region and (3) the impacts of various conservation measures on hydrological and sediment processes are closely associated with the extent and types of these measures. Engineering works have a quite immediate impact on streamflow and sediment regimes. Considerable vegetation controls are recognized as additional important driving forces for high hydrological and sediment alterations among various soil conservation measures. In vegetation controls, afforestation is the major factor causing the changes of runoff and sediment processes in these nine catchments. The results of the current study will be greatly beneficial to the regional water resources management and restoration of eco-environmental system in the middle Yellow River basin characterized by intensified soil-conservation measures under the changing environment. • Hydrologic alteration along the Middle and Upper East River (Dongjiang) basin, South China : a visually enhanced mining on the results of RVA method
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Stochastic environmental research and risk assessment (Print). - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1436-3240 .- 1436-3259. ; 24, s. 9-18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a visually enhanced evaluation of the spatio-temporal patterns of the dam-induced hydrologic alteration in the middle and upper East River, south China over 1952-2002, using the range of variability approach (RVA) and visualization package XmdvTool. The impacts of climate variability on hydrological processes have been removed for wet and dry periods, respectively, so that we focus on the impacts of human activities (i.e., dam construction). The results indicate that: (1) along the East River, dams have greatly altered the natural flow regime, range condition and spatial variability; (2) six most remarkable indicators of hydrologic alteration induced by dam-construction are rise rate (1.16), 3-day maximum (0.91), low pulse duration (0.88), January (0.80), July (0.80) and February (0.79) mean flow of the East River during 1952-2002; and (3) spatiotemporal hydrologic alterations are different among three stations along Easter River. Under the influence of dam construction in the upstream, the degree of hydrologic changes from Lingxia, Heyuan to Longchuan station increases. This study reveals that visualization techniques for high-dimensional hydrological datasets together with RVA are beneficial for detecting spatio-temporal hydrologic changes.

  • From planes to bowls : Photodissociation of the bisanthenequinone cation
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Chemical Physics Letters. - : Elsevier B.V.. - 0009-2614 .- 1873-4448. ; 692, s. 298-303
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a combined experimental and theoretical study of the photodissociation of the bisanthenequinone (C28H12O2) cation, Bq+. The experiments show that, upon photolysis, the Bq+ cation does not dehydrogenate, but instead fragments through the sequential loss of the two neutral carbonyl groups, causing the formation of five-membered carbon cycles. Quantum chemical calculations confirm this Bq+ → [Bq - CO]+ → [Bq - 2CO]+ sequence as the energetically most favorable reaction pathway. For the first CO loss, a transition state with a barrier of ∼3.2 eV is found, substantially lower than the lowest calculated H loss dissociation pathway (∼4.9 eV). A similar situation applies for the second CO loss channel (∼3.8 eV vs. ∼4.7 eV), but where the first dissociation step does not strongly alter the planar PAH geometry, the second step transforms the molecule into a bowl-shaped one.

  • Photodissociation processes of Bisanthenquinone cation
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the International Astronomical Union. - : Cambridge University Press. - 1743-9213. ; :S332, s. 353-359
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A systematic study, using ion trap time-of-flight mass spectrometry, is presented for the photo-dissociation processes of Bisanthenquinone (Bq) cations, C28H12O2+, a ketone substituted Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH). The Bq cation fragments through sequential loss of the two neutral carbonyl (CO) units upon laser (626nm) irradiation, resulting in a PAH-like derivative C26H12+. Upon further irradiation, C26H12+ exhibits both stepwise dehydrogenation and C2/C2H2 loss fragmentation channels. Quantum chemistry calculations reveal a detailed picture for the first CO-loss, which involves a transition state with a barrier of ∼ 3.4 eV, which is lower than the energy required for the lowest H-loss pathway (∼ 5.0 eV). The barrier for the second CO-loss is higher (∼ 4.9 eV). The subsequent loss of this unit changes the Bq geometry from a planar to a bent one. It is concluded that the photodissociation mechanism of the substituted PAH cations studied here is site selective in the substituted subunit. This work also shows that an acetone substituted PAH cation is not photo-stable upon irradiation.

  • Aged hydrogen silsesquioxane for sub-10 nm line patterns
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Microelectronic Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 0167-9317 .- 1873-5568. ; 163, s. 105-109
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ) has been used as a negative tone resist in electron beam lithography to define sub-10 nm patterns. The spontaneous polymerization in HSQ usually called aging in this context, sets a restricted period of time for a vendor-warranted use in patterning such small features with satisfactory line-edge roughness (LER). Here, we study the effect of HSQ aging on sensitivity and LER by focusing on exposing line patterns of 10 nm width in various structures. The results show that the 10 nm lines are easily achievable and the LER of the patterned lines remains unaltered even with HSQ that is stored 10 months beyond the vendor-specified expiration date. However, an increasingly pronounced decrease with time of the threshold electron dose (D-th), below which the line width would become less than 10 nm, is observed. After the HSQ expiration for 10 months, the 10 nm lines can be manufactured by reducing D-th to a level that is technically manageable with safe margins. In addition, the inclusion of a prebaldng step at 220 degrees C to accelerate the aging process results in a further reduced D-th for the 10 nm lines and thereby leads to a shortened writing time. The time variation of D-th with respect to the vendor-specified production date of HSQ is found to follow an exponential function of time and can be associated to the classical nucleation-growth polymerization process in HSQ.

  • Haplotype-resolved genome assembly and allele-specific gene expression in cultivated ginger
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Horticulture Research. - : Springer Nature. - 2052-7276. ; 8:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is one of the most valued spice plants worldwide; it is prized for its culinary and folk medicinal applications and is therefore of high economic and cultural importance. Here, we present a haplotype-resolved, chromosome-scale assembly for diploid ginger anchored to 11 pseudochromosome pairs with a total length of 3.1 Gb. Remarkable structural variation was identified between haplotypes, and two inversions larger than 15 Mb on chromosome 4 may be associated with ginger infertility. We performed a comprehensive, spatiotemporal, genome-wide analysis of allelic expression patterns, revealing that most alleles are coordinately expressed. The alleles that exhibited the largest differences in expression showed closer proximity to transposable elements, greater coding sequence divergence, more relaxed selection pressure, and more transcription factor binding site differences. We also predicted the transcription factors potentially regulating 6-gingerol biosynthesis. Our allele-aware assembly provides a powerful platform for future functional genomics, molecular breeding, and genome editing in ginger.
