  • Synthesis of Controllers from a Range of Controller Architectures
  • 1994
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • An algorithm specific digital signal processor is a powerful alternative to a general purpose signal processor for demanding specifications such as high throughput, low power, small size, etc. These properties are achieved as the processor architecture is tailored to the algorithm as opposed to the general purpose architecture which must suit a wide range of algorithms. The increased performance is traded for reduced flexibility of the final circuit and an increased design effort. Consequently powerful CAD-tools are needed to decrease the design effort. This thesis presents COMA, a CAD-tool for synthesis of controllers suitable for a wide range of digital signal processing algorithms and application fields. COMA synthesizes a complete controller with all modules and interconnection specifications. COMA has been developed with the intention of being used by an active designer where his knowledge, skills, and experience is best utilized. An automated synthesis process can be performed but is preferably refined to a competitive solution using designer interaction before a circuit is fabricated. The main reason for designing an algorithm specific digital signal processors is the possibility to use an architecture dedicated to the algorithm. Consequently, COMA supports arbitrary datapath architectures and does not impose any restrictions. This is crucial in order to fully exploit the advantages of an algorithm specific design. Results presented in this thesis and the discussion regarding controller architectures show that different controller architectures are suitable for different algorithms and different implementation techniques of the fabricated circuit. Thus, COMA can synthesize a range of controller architectures suitable for these different needs. This approach, I believe, is unique for COMA. Standard controller architectures have been modified to suit application specific digital signal processing design and new solutions have been developed. Using COMA complex algorithm specific digital signals processors for a wide range of applications can be designed with a considerable reduction in design effort compared to a hand made design.

  • Exploring different responses to mimetic pressures : an institutional theory perspective on e-commerce adoption of an internationalizing retail SME
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: International Review of Retail Distribution & Consumer Research. - : Taylor & Francis Group. - 0959-3969 .- 1466-4402. ; 34:1, s. 14-32
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of this article is to explore how mimetic pressures affect an internationalizing small- and medium-sized enterprise’s adoption of e-commerce in the retail business, and by so doing generating insights into the different available responses to such pressures. A single, qualitative case study research design is employed to conduct an in-depth analysis of a retail SME. The data shows evidence of mimetic pressures that are perceived by the retailer. A trajectory of organizational responses to these pressures are identified by examining the changes that the investigated retailer made in its organization. By probing deeper into retail SMEs’ decisions to use e-commerce as a vehicle for international growth, this article contributes to extending the understanding of how internationalizing retail SMEs can respond to mimetic pressures and adopt e-commerce strategies that provide a fit with their business models. One empirical case provides limited possibilities for generalization. Further studies that can enhance the understanding of retailers’ various responses to mimetic pressures of e-commerce in different contexts are therefore suggested.

  • Does promoting parents' negative attitudes to underage drinking reduce adolescents' drinking? : the mediating process and moderators of the effects of the Örebro prevention programme
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Addiction. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 0965-2140 .- 1360-0443. ; 111:2, s. 263-271
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background and aims: The Örebro Prevention Programme (ÖPP) was found previously to be effective in reducing drunkenness among adolescents [Cohen's d = 0.35, number needed to treat (NNT) = 7.7]. The current study tested the mediating role of parents’ restrictive attitudes to underage drinking in explaining the effectiveness of the ÖPP, and the potential moderating role of gender, immigration status, peers’ and parents’ drinking and parent–adolescent relationship quality.Design: A quasi‐experimental matched‐control group study with assessments at baseline, and at 18‐ and 30‐month follow‐ups.Participants: Of the 895 target youths at ages 12–13 years, 811 youths and 651 parents at baseline, 653 youths and 524 parents at 18‐month and 705 youths and 506 parents at 30‐month follow‐up participated in the study.Measurements: Youths reported on their past month drunkenness, their parents’ and peers’ alcohol use and the quality of their relationship with parents. Parents reported on their attitudes to underage drinking.Findings: The mediation analyses, using latent growth curve modeling, showed that changes in parents’ restrictive attitudes to underage drinking explained the impact of the ÖPP on changes in youth drunkenness, which was reduced, and onset of monthly drunkenness, which was delayed, relative to controls. Mediation effect explained 57 and 45% of the effects on drunkenness and onset of monthly drunkenness, respectively. The programme effects on both parents’ attitudes and youth drunkenness were similar across gender, immigrant status, parents’ and peers’ alcohol use and parent–youth relationship quality. Conclusions: Increasing parents’ restrictive attitudes to youth drinking appears to be an effective and robust strategy for reducing heavy underage drinking regardless of the adolescents’ gender, cultural origin, peers’ and parents’ drinking and relationship quality with parents.

  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Open Access (OA) is defined as the free, online, immediate, permanent access to scientific and scholarly material in full-text. Open Access practices have reached the universities and now nearly all university researchers report knowledge of OA. Statistics Sweden (SCB) has estimated that 75% of all money invested in research activities in Sweden is done by private companies. In spite of this, the private sector has been relatively absent from the Open Access discussion and development, in contrast to the universities. The goal of this project was to study the advance of OA practices in the private sector. The method was to visit a number of Swedish companies and present the OA concept. After the presentations web-based surveys were distributed to measure previous knowledge of OA, publishing and readership practices, and views of the matter. Knowledge and awareness of Open Access is less within companies than at universities, although it seems to increase with publishing practices and higher educational degree. The publishing practices, and to lesser extent the reading practices, of scientific articles is less within companies, which could lead to a skewed funding situation for a future Open Access-economy based on an “author-pays” model. In discussions regarding how companies might pay for Open Access we therefore suggest that the flow of information needs to be guarded so that the benefit of access to scientific data does not become limited for companies and industry in a new way, as is already seen by some Open Access journals. The researchers’ access to information should be the same irrespective of whether they work at a company or at the university.
