  • 30th European Conference on Information Systems - New Horizons in Digitally United Societies, ECIS 2022, Timisoara, Romania, June 18-24, 2022
  • 2022
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Digitization is already changing Europe and the whole world. Whether or not we can leverage its opportunities to foster prosperity, human well-being, and sustainability depends on the strategic decisions taken today. Will the countries work together to embrace these opportunities, or will they let this chance pass? Overcoming historical divides and acting solidarity united in a prosperous Europe is the only way. As digital frontrunners, the IS researchers have a key role to play and the responsibility to act as an engine to make the digital transition happen at a sufficiently fast pace for Europe to remain competitive in a rapidly digitizing world. Digitization in united societies is about bringing people together, having a better life and a bright future. Together we can build societies collectively inclusive, innovative, and able to adapt to the massive societal challenges of the 21st century. ECIS 2022 will bring together information systems (IS) researchers in East and West, being only the second time in Eastern Europe after Gdańsk, Poland, in 2002. ECIS in Timișoara will provide a unique opportunity to unite IS researchers in Europe, making it an inclusive conference that allows all academics from AIS Region 2 to participate. We believe that the participants will find the conference fee really likeable and we promise to deliver good value for the money. Timișoara’s aim is to connect and ultimately digitally unite academics and societies.

  • Value Co-creation for Smart Villages: The Institutionalization of Regional Service Ecosystems
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: ICIS 2020 Proceedings. - Georgia : Association for Information Systems.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Building a versatile portfolio of public and private digital-enabled services is vital in rural and sparsely populated regions, where traditional market mechanisms alone cannot guarantee the availability of essential services. However, contemporary services tend to build on prevalent institutions, often governed by decisions based on market mechanisms, such as economies of scale – service-by-service and village-by-village. A shift is suggested towards networks of smart villages co-creating value as regional service ecosystems. We draw from institutional theory and employ the Service-dominant logic (SDL) framework in investigating value co-creation in rural villages in Sweden. Analyzing 53 laddering interviews, we derive scripts encoding institutional principles for innovating bundles of digital-enabled services. The study brings forth novel insight for e-government research and practice, and the SDL discourse therein, on outlining required institutional practices and institutional work to counteract plain market mechanisms for governing value co-creation on smart rural service portfolios.

  • Value Co-Destruction : A Conceptual Review and Future Research Agenda
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Service Research. - : Sage Publications. - 1094-6705 .- 1552-7379. ; 27:2, s. 159-176
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The service-dominant (S-D) logic lens for understanding value co-creation and customers' interactive roles in the service exchange has emerged as a focal theme of interest among service academics and practitioners. While recent investigations have also focused on the process of value co-destruction-that is, how potential negative outcomes occur-the concept and its distinction from value co-creation remain unclear. This conceptual review synthesizes the concept of value co-destruction and proposes a framework consisting of two interrelated dimensions-actor-actor interaction and individual actor-and their components at three temporal points of the service encounter. We distinguish value co-destruction from other closely related concepts and take steps to integrate the value co-destruction concept into the S-D logic framework and the concept of value co-creation. The proposed integrative framework can help researchers and service practitioners alike to identify, analyze, and rectify the value co-destruction components in the service exchange and, thereby, avoid potential negative outcomes of service interactions. A threefold research agenda is proposed to obtain a more balanced understanding of the two dynamically interrelated concepts of value co-creation and value co-destruction and their application in practice.

  • An Educational Interaction Model for Curriculum Design and Evolution
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) 2021. - Austin : Association for Information Systems. - 9781733632591
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this short paper, we report from a case study addressing complexities of IS curriculum design. In a design science research process, we build on literature as well as workshops with IS practitioners in the design of two IS bachelor programs. Drawing from experiences from the process, we abstract the educational interaction model (EIM). Based on the identified types of stakeholder interaction, we articulate five considerations for IS curriculum design and evolution. Future work will focus on testing and further developing the EIM model in evaluation and design of IS curricula.

  • Development of an Agile Requirements Risk Prioritization Method : A Design Science Research Study
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Communications of the Association for Information Systems. - : Association for Information Systems. - 1529-3181 .- 1529-3181. ; 52, s. 609-637
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The practice of information systems development (ISD) has changed during the past two decades from very structured approaches to agile ISD methods. However, in the literature many methods available for managing requirements-related risks follow a structured approach to ISD. Few, if any, available methods offer solutions that prioritize requirements risks for agile ISD projects based on recognizing requirements-related risks and patterns in order to mitigate these. To fill this gap in the literature, we apply the design science research methodology to develop an agile requirements risk prioritization method together with industry experts (n=54) in Finland and New Zealand in a multi-year study. The method was developed by applying contingency theory, and our study makes an artifactual contribution to the literature. The method helps practitioners prioritize the overall requirements-related risks for ISD projects.

  • Micro-Level Mechanisms to Support Value Co-Creation for Design of Digital Services
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Service Research. - 1094-6705 .- 1552-7379.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study identifies micro-level value co-creation mechanisms that support the design of digital services. As services are now becoming digital—or at least digitally enabled—how to design digital services that enable value co-creation between a service provider and customers has become an increasingly important question. Our qualitative research study provides one answer to this question. Based on 113 in-depth laddering interviews analyzed using interpretive structural modeling, our study shows that value co-creation mechanisms differ between business-to-business and customer-to-customer digital service types. We identify five mechanisms to support value co-creation in the design of digital services: (1) Social use, (2) Customer orientation and decision making, (3) Service experience, (4) Service use context, and (5) Customer values and goals. We claim that firms can readily utilize these mechanisms to improve their customers’ service experiences.

  • Cultural Values’ Influences on Users’ Preferences for Gamification Techniques
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: International Conference on Information Systems.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Gamification techniques such as badges, levels, roles, are widely adopted in information systems (IS). Though researchers have noted that cultural values may influence users’ usage of IS, there is a lack of research regarding the relationship of cultural values and gamification techniques. Our study aims to contribute to this area. We propose that users’ cultural values may influence how they are motivated and further influence their preferences toward specific gamification techniques. In this research in progress, we review cultural values, examine the currently adopted gamification techniques, and then propose how cultural values influence users’ preferences toward specific gamification techniques. We encourage designers to cater the adoption of gamification techniques in IS according to the users’ cultural values, and researchers may further investigate the relation-ship between culture and gamification techniques. We propose a research agenda to investigate IS users’ preferences toward different gamification techniques through an experiment with cultural values primed and a survey with participants from different cultural settings.
