  • Doctors with Borders: Professional Disputes in Times of Deregulation
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Knowledge Management: An International Journal. - 2327-7998 .- 2327-9249. ; 13:4, s. 1-13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The pharmacy market in Sweden is undergoing huge changes, going from a state-owned monopoly chain to a deregulated market with many actors. The aim of this study is to describe and analyze how professional representatives are arguing about the introduction of selling self-tests, such as celiac test, at the pharmacies in Sweden. We study how demarcations and boundaries are created between pharmacist and physicians as a result of self-tests. The concepts of social closure by exclusion and usurpation are used. This implies taking a neo-Weberian perspective on professions and professional knowledge. In understanding professional knowledge and how the boundaries between professions are negotiated in this context of political and market changes, a qualitative media analysis is used that includes articles from both newspapers and trade press. The analysis show how pharmacists use intrusive strategies such as pushing market strategy and supplementing care, while physicians create closure grounded in professional knowledge and the profession's altruistic traits.

  • The co-creation of performance – salary talks as part of performance appraisal
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: not published.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • During the last decades the Swedish wage formation has been transformed from being based on an idea of solidarity to an individual oriented system based on individual performance. The system relays on local solutions of general national agreements among the labour market parties. Thereby, employers need to set up system for how to evaluate individual performance. Such local systems are often based on a dialogue between the manager and the co-worker, and the dialogue can be supported by organizational tools such performance appraisal criteria. This paper is based on an interest in performance from a micro-perspective and, therefore, takes its starting point in the dialogue between the manager and the co-worker. The aim is to analyze how individual performance and the role of actors is created in salary talks between managers and co-workers as part of the merit salary increase process. A relational perspective on leadership and co-workership may help us understand how the persons involved in these local dialogues and the tools that are brought into this process can shape how performance is interpreted and defined in practice. Such interpretations may include what actions, competences, behavior and values that are seen as important with the organization, and thus, are part of a process of (e)valuation. In order to meet the aim, a study of three public organizations has been conducted. The field materials consist of interviews with HR, managers and co-workers, documents (criteria etc.) and a survey sent to employees in the three public organizations. The analysis shows the importance of understanding the interrelationship between managers, co-workers and tools when individual performance is discussed locally and how the dialogue between managers and co-workers not only reflects but also construct the understanding of performance that is valued locally.

  • Stereotyper och brytbilder i yrkesbeskrivande text och film
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Arbetsmarknad & Arbetsliv. - Karlstad : Karlstads universitet. - 1400-9692 .- 2002-343X. ; 20:3, s. 54-69
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • Gender equality and industrial relations in the EU: an analytical framework
  • 2021
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Visualising and Measuring the Role of Industrial Relations in Addressing Gender Equality (VIRAGE) project aims to contribute to the literature on social dialogue/industrial relations and gender equality by exploring the role of social partners. VIRAGE acknowledges the multidimensional nature of gender inequality and the need for immediate joint actions in the economy and society to address the issue. VIRAGE seeks to improve expertise and provide a comparative analysis on the role of social partners in addressing gender equality in the EU and across countries with different social dialogue models and industrial relations’ structures. This report presents the analytical framework of VIRAGE. It describes the key concepts and dimensions of gender (in)equality adopted throughout the research. Section 1 defines the concepts and terminology of gender. Section 2 sets out the theoretical background and an analytical framework to account for the multidimensionality of gender inequality when examining the role of social partners in addressing the issue. Sections 3 to 7 then present those dimensions of gender inequality, their definitions, the theories that underline them and the relevant indicators and trends for measuring their evolution. These sections also discuss the policy approaches and the role of social partners in addressing each issue. Finally, Section 8 summarises the main points of the analytical approach, outlines the impact of Covid-19 on gender equality, and sets out the main conclusions for the remainder of the VIRAGE research.

  • Scrutinising Polarisation : An introduction
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Scrutinising Polarisation. - Oxon : Routledge. - 9781032536347 ; , s. 1-17
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This is the introductory chapter for the book entitled Scrutinizing Polarization: Patterns and consequences of occupational transformations in the Swedish labour market (Routledge). The starting point of the book is the changing employment and job structure in Western economies, and the Swedish economy in particular, and the question of whether these economies are moving towards polarisation. A lot of the previous research has regarded digital technological advancements as the main driver of occupational change. However, in this book we argue that the perspective must be widened, both when it comes to indicators measuring change, and regarding causes of occupational transformation. Concerning the latter, and particularly in the Swedish or Nordic context, changes in the large public sector, mainly caused by political priorities rather than technological change, need to be considered. This introductory chapter also scrutinises what the concept of polarisation means and refers to. Distinctions among value polarisation, bi-polarisation and social polarisation are discussed and put in motion in the analyses in this book. The chapter ends with a brief overview of the themes and analysis of the different chapters.

  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This final chapter of the book Scrutinising Polarisation summarises the main findings of upgrading and polarisation tendencies in the Swedish labour market, the mechanisms behind changes, which social categories are affected, and the significance of the Swedish industrial relation model. The chapter ends with a more general discussion by relating the concepts of value polarisation, bi-polarisation and social polarisation to the main results of the studies included in this book.

  • Kundintensiva serviceyrken : status, emotioner och kropp i arbete
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Arbete & Välfärd. - Lund : Studentlitteratur AB. - 9789144116310 ; , s. 435-450
