  • How do we teach modelling and model-driven engineering? : A survey
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: 21st ACM/IEEE International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems. - New York, NY, USA : Association for Computing Machinery, Inc. - 9781450359658 ; , s. 122-129
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Understanding the experiences of instructors teaching modelling and model-driven engineering is of great relevance to determining how MDE courses should be managed in terms of content, assessment, and teaching methods. In this paper, we report the results of a survey of 47 instructors in this field. Questions address course content, tools and technologies used, as well as positive and negative factors affecting learning outcomes. We analyse the results and summarise key findings with the potential of improving the state of teaching and learning practices. The survey is a preliminary effort in giving a structured overview on the state-of-the-practice within teaching modeling and model-driven engineering (from the point of view of the instructor).

  • Towards a body of knowledge for model-based software engineering
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: 21st ACM/IEEE International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems. - New York, NY, USA : Association for Computing Machinery, Inc. - 9781450359658 ; , s. 82-89
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Model-based Software Engineering (MBSE) is now accepted as a Software Engineering (SE) discipline and is being taught as part of more general SE curricula. However, an agreed core of concepts, mechanisms and practices - which constitutes the Body of Knowledge of a discipline - has not been captured anywhere, and is only partially covered by the SE Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK). With the goals of characterizing the contents of the MBSE discipline, promoting a consistent view of it worldwide, clarifying its scope with regard to other SE disciplines, and defining a foundation for a curriculum development on MBSE, this paper provides a proposal for an extension of the contents of SWEBOK with the set of fundamental concepts, terms and mechanisms that should constitute the MBSE Body of Knowledge.

  • Handling Non-functional Requirements in Model-Driven Development: An Ongoing Industrial Survey
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 2015 IEEE 23rd International Requirements Engineering Conference (Re). - : IEEE. - 9781467369053
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Model-Driven Development (MDD) is no longer a novel development paradigm. It has become mature from a research perspective and recent studies show its adoption in industry. Still, some issues remain a challenge. Among them, we are interested in the treatment of non-functional requirements (NFRs) in MDD processes. Very few MDD approaches have been reported to deal with NFRs (and they do it in a limited way). However, it is clear that NFRs need to be considered somehow in the final product of the MDD process. To better understand how NFRs are integrated into the existing MDD approaches, we have initiated the NFR4MDD project, a multi-national empirical study, based on interviews with companies working on MDD projects. Our project aims at surveying the state of the practice for this topic. In this paper, we summarize our research protocol and present the current status of our study. The discussion will focus on the peculiarities of our study's context and organization involving about 20 researchers from 8 European countries.

  • Uncertainty-Aware consistency checking in industrial settings
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - ACM/IEEE 26th International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems, MODELS 2023. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9798350324808 ; , s. 73-83
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work, we explore how we can assist engineers in managing, in a lightweight way, both consistency and design uncertainty during the creation and maintenance of models and other development artifacts. We propose annotating degrees of doubt to indicate design uncertainties on elements of development artifacts. To combine multiple opinions, we use the fusion operators of subjective logic. We show how these annotations can be used to identify, prioritize, and resolve uncertainty and inconsistency. To do so, we identify the types of design uncertainty and inconsistency to be addressed in two concrete industrial settings and show a prototype implementation of our approach to calculating the uncertainty and inconsistency in these cases. We show how making design uncertainty explicit could be used to tolerate inconsistencies with high uncertainty, prioritize inconsistencies with low associated uncertainty, and uncover previously hidden potential inconsistencies.
