  • THE 2014 ALMA LONG BASELINE CAMPAIGN: AN OVERVIEW
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Letters. - : American Astronomical Society. - 2041-8213 .- 2041-8205. ; 808:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A major goal of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) is to make accurate images with resolutions of tens of milliarcseconds, which at submillimeter (submm) wavelengths requires baselines up to similar to 15 km. To develop and test this capability, a Long Baseline Campaign (LBC) was carried out from 2014 September to late November, culminating in end-to-end observations, calibrations, and imaging of selected Science Verification (SV) targets. This paper presents an overview of the campaign and its main results, including an investigation of the short-term coherence properties and systematic phase errors over the long baselines at the ALMA site, a summary of the SV targets and observations, and recommendations for science observing strategies at long baselines. Deep ALMA images of the quasar 3C 138 at 97 and 241 GHz are also compared to VLA 43 GHz results, demonstrating an agreement at a level of a few percent. As a result of the extensive program of LBC testing, the highly successful SV imaging at long baselines achieved angular resolutions as fine as 19 mas at similar to 350 GHz. Observing with ALMA on baselines of up to 15 km is now possible, and opens up new parameter space for submm astronomy.

  • Genetic architecture of spatial electrical biomarkers for cardiac arrhythmia and relationship with cardiovascular disease
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Nature communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723. ; 14:1, s. 1411-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The 3-dimensional spatial and 2-dimensional frontal QRS-T angles are measures derived from the vectorcardiogram. They are independent risk predictors for arrhythmia, but the underlying biology is unknown. Using multi-ancestry genome-wide association studies we identify 61 (58 previously unreported) loci for the spatial QRS-T angle (N = 118,780) and 11 for the frontal QRS-T angle (N = 159,715). Seven out of the 61 spatial QRS-T angle loci have not been reported for other electrocardiographic measures. Enrichments are observed in pathways related to cardiac and vascular development, muscle contraction, and hypertrophy. Pairwise genome-wide association studies with classical ECG traits identify shared genetic influences with PR interval and QRS duration. Phenome-wide scanning indicate associations with atrial fibrillation, atrioventricular block and arterial embolism and genetically determined QRS-T angle measures are associated with fascicular and bundle branch block (and also atrioventricular block for the frontal QRS-T angle). We identify potential biology involved in the QRS-T angle and their genetic relationships with cardiovascular traits and diseases, may inform future research and risk prediction.

  • ICRF-code benchmark activity in the framework of the European task-force on integrated Tokamak Modelling
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - : American Institute of Physics. - 9780735412101 ; , s. 291-294
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The grand aim of the Integrated Tokamak Modelling (ITM) task-force is to provide a flexible, modular and reliable plasma simulator in view of planning and analyzing ITER discharges. Since radio-frequency (rf) heating in the ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF) is foreseen as one of the main additional heating systems in ITER, physics modules that simulate ICRF wave propagation and absorption are necessary for the ITM project. Here, we report on the status of the benchmark activity of ICRF codes, already imported in ITM environment platform. We consider various scenarios for ITER, limiting the comparisons to wave propagation and absorption in Maxwellian plasmas.

  • Health-related quality of life and orthosis use in a Swedish population with arthrogryposis
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Prosthetics and Orthotics International. - : Ovid Technologies (Wolters Kluwer Health). - 0309-3646 .- 1746-1553. ; 42:4, s. 402-409
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Joint contractures are the main characteristics for children with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita. Orthoses are often used to enable or facilitate walking. Objectives: To describe health-related quality of life in children with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita and satisfaction with orthoses in those using orthoses. Methods: A total of 33 children with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita participated in the study. Questionnaires were used which measured health-related quality of life (Child Health Questionnaire-Parent Form and EQ-5D youth), mobility and self-care (Paediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory) and satisfaction with orthoses (Quebec User Evaluation of Satisfaction with Assistive Technology 2.0). Children were divided into groups based on the use of orthoses: Ort-D were dependent on orthoses for walking, Ort-ND used orthoses but were not dependent on them for walking and Non-Ort did not use orthoses. Results: Children with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita had significantly lower Child Health Questionnaire scores in 9 of 12 subscales compared to healthy controls. The children's reported perceived health with EQ-5D youth did not show any difference between children using orthoses or children using only shoes. Paediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory showed less mobility in Ort-D than in Non-Ort. In total, both orthosis groups were quite satisfied' with their orthoses. Conclusion: Child Health Questionnaire-physical functioning was lowest in children who were dependent on orthoses (Ort-D) for walking. Both Ort-D and Ort-ND were similar satisfied with their orthoses. Clinical relevance This study contributes to knowledge about health-related quality of life in a group of ambulatory children with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita. For children using orthoses, it is relevant to capture their opinion about their orthoses but a questionnaire specifically for children should be developed.

  • Calibration of ALMA as a Phased Array. ALMA Observations During the 2017 VLBI Campaign
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. - : IOP Publishing. - 0004-6280 .- 1538-3873. ; 131:1001
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a detailed description of the special procedures for calibration and quality assurance of Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations in Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) mode. These procedures are required to turn the phased ALMA array into a fully calibrated VLBI station. As an illustration of these methodologies, we present full-polarization observations carried out with ALMA as a phased array at 3 mm (Band 3) and 1.3 mm (Band 6) as part of Cycle-4. These are the first VLBI science observations conducted with ALMA and were obtained during a 2017 VLBI campaign in concert with other telescopes worldwide as part of the Global mm-VLBI Array (GMVA, April 1-3) and the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT, April 5-11) in ALMA Bands 3 and 6, respectively.

  • A model for self-consistent simulation of ICRH suitable for integrating modelling
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Fusion. - : IOP Publishing. - 0029-5515 .- 1741-4326. ; 53:9, s. 093004-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A self-consistent modelling of ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH) is reviewed with the aim of obtaining a fast robust scheme suitable for routine simulation for transport codes and data analysis. Due to the complexity of calculating the wave field and the distribution function self-consistently simplifications are necessary. To improve modelling of the wave field, methods are developed to include higher order finite Larmor radius terms, up-and downshifts of the parallel wave number and to improve calculations of damping due to the transit time magnetic pumping in finite element wave codes without decomposing the wave locally into planar waves. A new code, SELFO-light, for self-consistent modelling of ion cyclotron heating suitable for routine calculations is developed. The code is based on coupling the global wave code LION with a simple one-dimensional time-dependent Fokker-Planck code. Both the wave and the Fokker-Planck codes use finite element representations. The importance of self-consistent modelling of ion cyclotron heating is illustrated by studying the effect on the power partition for a fast wave current drive scenario at lower harmonic resonances in a deuterium plasma. It is found that the fraction of the power absorbed on the deuterium and the time to reach the steady state vary strongly depending on the position of the resonances. It is found that the deuterium absorption becomes strongly localized to regions where the resonances are tangential to the magnetic flux surfaces.
