  • Side reactions/changes in lithium-ion batteries : mechanisms and strategies for creating safer and better batteries
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Advanced Materials. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0935-9648 .- 1521-4095.
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), in which lithium ions function as charge carriers, are considered the most competitive energy storage devices due to their high energy and power density. However, battery materials, especially with high capacity undergo side reactions and changes that result in capacity decay and safety issues. A deep understanding of the reactions that cause changes in the battery's internal components and the mechanisms of those reactions is needed to build safer and better batteries. This review focuses on the processes of battery failures, with voltage and temperature as the underlying factors. Voltage-induced failures result from anode interfacial reactions, current collector corrosion, cathode interfacial reactions, overcharge, and overdischarge, while temperature-induced failure mechanisms include SEI decomposition, separator damage, and interfacial reactions between electrodes and electrolytes. The review also presents protective strategies for controlling these reactions. As a result, the reader is offered a comprehensive overview of the safety features and failure mechanisms of various LIB components.

  • Self-glazed zirconia reducing the wear to tooth enamel
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of the European Ceramic Society. - : Elsevier BV. - 0955-2219 .- 1873-619X. ; 36:12, s. 2889-2894
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The wear behaviors of a newly developed grade of self-glazed zirconia against the enamel of freshly extracted teeth were investigated under simulated oral stresses and chemical environment. It was revealed that an inherently formed enamel-like surface on self-glazed zirconia that is very smooth on micrometer scale yet with nanoscale roughness has almost the same frictional coefficient against tooth enamel as the well-polished zirconia surface. The wear scars observed on the worn surface of enamel against self-glazed zirconia and well-polished zirconia surface revealed that in both cases fatigue wear is the dominating wear mechanism. It was concluded that the friction and wear performances of both the well-polished and self-glazed zirconia ceramics against natural enamel were very similar, which bears a very strong implication for the clinical safe use of the full contour zirconia restorations, yet the self-glazed zirconia provides sufficiently improved aesthetic appearance that ensures its potential for direct clinical uses.

  • Note on soft graviton theorem by KLT relation
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; :11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recently, new soft graviton theorem proposed by Cachazo and Strominger has inspired a lot of works. In this note, we use the KLT-formula to investigate the theorem. We have shown how the soft behavior of color ordered Yang-Mills amplitudes can be combined with KLT relation to give the soft behavior of gravity amplitudes. As a byproduct, we find two nontrivial identities of the KLT momentum kernel must hold.

  • Enhanced Bacteriostatic Properties of Ti Alloys by Surface Nitriding
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Biomedical Materials & Devices. - : Springer Nature. - 2731-4812 .- 2731-4820. ; 1, s. 760-771
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Surface nitriding has been widely used to improve the surface physicochemical properties of Ti alloys. However, the currently utilized surface nitriding methods, such as laser nitriding, typically require expensive and complicated instruments, which makes surface nitriding a less cost-effective process. Meanwhile, the antibacterial properties of surface-nitrided Ti alloy implants have not been evaluated. Thereafter, in this study, we were aiming to develop an effective, simple, and cost-effective surface nitriding strategy to enhance the antimicrobial properties of Ti alloy implants. The surface nitriding strategy was realized by wet-chemical etching and thermal treatment at controlled conditions. Results showed that the above surface modification treatments exerted significant effects on the phase composition and morphology of the newly formed phases on the surface of Ti samples. Crystalline TiN and TiO2 formed after treatments. Meanwhile, amorphous nitrides and oxynitride were also presented on the sample surfaces. The surface-modified Ti samples showed a bacterial inhibition effect compared with the non-treated Ti ones, and the bacterial inhibition effect was attributed to the released ammonia species from the surface of Ti samples. The surface modification strategy shows promise to improve the bacteriostatic property of Ti implants in dental and orthopedic fields.

  • Inertia effects of past behavior in commuting modal shift behavior: interactions, variations and implications for demand estimation
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Transportation. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0049-4488 .- 1572-9435. ; 49:4, s. 1063 -1097
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper focuses on empirically investigating the inertia effects of past behavior in commuting modal shift behavior and contributes to the current state of the art by three aspects. Firstly, this study introduces and tests the potential influences of the inertia effects of past behavior on the traveler's preferences regarding level-of-service (LOS) variables, besides the impacts of inertia effects on the preference for the frequently used transport mode in the past. Secondly, the mode-specific inertia effects are investigated to distinguish the differences in the inertia effects for different transport modes based on posterior individual-specific parameter estimations. Thirdly, the factors contributing to the heterogeneity of inertia effects including demographics and travel contexts, are quantitatively examined. A joint random parameter logit model using a revealed and stated preference survey regarding commuting behavior is employed to unravel the three aspects. The results reveal significant interactions of inertia terms with LOS variables indicating the influences of past behavior on travelers' evaluations on attributes of their previous choices. The mean values and variances of inertia effects for different transport modes are significantly and substantially distinct. For instance, the inertia effects of frequently using car are substantially positive representing strong stickiness to the car, while the inertia effects of frequently using the metro have large variances among travelers and mostly appear as dispositions to change. Besides, the effects of personal characteristics and travel contexts on the magnitude of the inertia effects of different transport modes are identified as well. A demand estimation analysis is utilized to investigate the influences of three aspects on predicting travel demands in various contexts. Incorporating the interactions and mode-specific inertia effects can remarkably improve the model performance. The demand estimation will be biased if they are neglected.

  • Notes on Worldsheet : Like Variables for Cluster Configuration Spaces
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Symmetry, Integrability and Geometry. - : SIGMA (Symmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Application). - 1815-0659. ; 19, s. 1-24
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We continue the exploration of various appearances of cluster algebras in scattering amplitudes and related topics in physics. The cluster configuration spaces generalize the familiar moduli space M0,n to finite-type cluster algebras. We study worldsheet-like variables, which for classical types have also appeared in the study of the symbol alphabet of Feynman integrals. We provide a systematic derivation of these variables from Y-systems, which allows us to express the dihedral coordinates in terms of them and to write the corresponding cluster string integrals in compact forms. We mainly focus on the Dn type and show how to reach the boundaries of the configuration space, and write the saddle-point equations in terms of these variables. Moreover, these variables make it easier to study various topological properties of the space using a finite-field method. We propose conjectures about quasi-polynomial point count, dimensions of cohomology, and the number of saddle points for the Dn space up to n = 10, which greatly extend earlier results.

  • Effect of acidosis on adipose-derived stem cell impairment and gene expression
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Regenerative Therapy. - 2352-3204. ; 25, s. 331-343
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Based on disappointing results of stem cell-based application in clinical trials for patients with critical limb ischemia, we hypothesized that the acidic environment might be the key factor limiting cell survival and function. In the present study, we used microdialysis to determine presence of acidosis and metabolic imbalance in critical ischemia. Moreover, we explored the effect of extracellular acidosis on adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) at molecular and transcriptional level. Our data demonstrate that low pH negatively regulates cell proliferation and survival, also, it results in cell cycle arrest, mitochondrial dynamics disorder, DNA damage as well as the impairment of proangiogenic function in a pH-dependent manner. Further transcriptome profiling identified the pivotal signaling pathways and hub genes in response to acidosis. Collectively, these findings provide strong evidences for a critical role of acidosis in ADSCs impairment with ischemic condition and suggest treatments focus on tissue pH balance and acidosis-mediated hub genes may have therapeutic potential in stem cell-based application.

  • Dynamics of COVID-19 progression and the long-term influences of measures on pandemic outcomes
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Emerging Themes in Epidemiology. - : BMC. - 1742-7622. ; 19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The pandemic progression is a dynamic process, in which measures yield outcomes, and outcomes in turn influence subsequent measures and outcomes. Due to the dynamics of pandemic progression, it is challenging to analyse the long-term influence of an individual measure in the sequence on pandemic outcomes. To demonstrate the problem and find solutions, in this article, we study the first wave of the pandemic—probably the most dynamic period—in the Nordic countries and analyse the influences of the Swedish measures relative to the measures adopted by its neighbouring countries on COVID-19 mortality, general mortality, COVID-19 incidence, and unemployment. The design is a longitudinal observational study. The linear regressions based on the Poisson distribution or the binomial distribution are employed for the analysis. To show that analysis can be timely conducted, we use table data available during the first wave. We found that the early Swedish measure had a long-term and significant causal effect on public health outcomes and a certain degree of long-term mitigating causal effect on unemployment during the first wave, where the effect was measured by an increase of these outcomes under the Swedish measures relative to the measures adopted by the other Nordic countries. This information from the first wave has not been provided by available analyses but could have played an important role in combating the second wave. In conclusion, analysis based on table data may provide timely information about the dynamic progression of a pandemic and the long-term influence of an individual measure in the sequence on pandemic outcomes.

  • Failure Modes and Fracture Origins of Porcelain Veneers on Bilayer Dental Crowns
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Prosthodontics. - : Quintessence Publishing. - 0893-2174 .- 1139-9791. ; 27:2, s. 147-150
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aims of this study were to determine the fracture origins and crack paths in the porcelain of clinically failed bilayer ceramic restorations and to reveal the correlation between the porcelain failures and material properties. Three clinically failed crowns of each material (bilayer zirconia crowns, galvano-ceramic crowns, and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns) were collected and underwent failure analysis. The fractures found in porcelain veneers showed several characteristics including wear, Hertzian cone crack, chipping off, and delamination. The results indicated that the fracture origins and features of the porcelain in bilayer ceramic restorations might be affected by the rigidity of core materials and thickness of copings.
