  • A numerical study of radiative heat transfer in a cylindrical furnace by using finite volume method
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Heat Transfer in Energy Systems; Thermophysical Properties; Theory and Fundamentals in Heat Transfer; Nanoscale Thermal Transport; Heat Transfer in Equipment; Heat Transfer in Fire and Combustion; Transport Processes in Fuel Cells and Heat Pipes; Boiling and Condensation in Macro, Micro and Nanosystems. - 9780791850329 ; 1
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In designing industrial cylindrical furnaces, it is important to predict the radiative heat flux on the wall with high accuracy. In this study, we consider CO2 and H2O which have strong absorption in the infrared range. The absorption coefficients of the gases are calculated by using the statistical narrow band (SNB) model. The spectrum is divided into 15 bands to cover all the absorption regions of the two non-gray gases. The radiative transfer equation is solved by the finite volume method (FVM) in cylindrical coordinates. To make the FVM more accurate, we discretize the solid angle into 80 directions with the S8 approximation which is found to be both efficient and less time consuming. Based on the existing species and temperature fields, which were modeled by the FLUENT commercial code, the radiative heat transfer in a cylinder combustor is simulated by an in-house code. The results show that the radiative heat flux plays a dominant part of the heat flux to the wall. Meanwhile, when the gas is considered as nongray, the computational time is very huge. Therefore, a parallel algorithm is also applied to speed up the computing process.

  • Chip-scale solar thermal electrical power generation
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Cell Reports Physical Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 2666-3864. ; 3:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is an urgent need for alternative compact technologies that can derive and store energy from the sun, especially the large amount of solar heat that is not effectively used for power generation. Here, we report a combination of solution- and neat-film-based molecular solar thermal (MOST) systems, where solar energy can be stored as chemical energy and released as heat, with microfabricated thermoelectric generators to produce electricity when solar radiation is not available. The photophysical properties of two MOST couples are characterized both in liquid with a catalytical cycling setup and in a phase-interconvertible neat film. Their suitable photophysical properties let us combine them individually with a microelectromechanical ultrathin thermoelectric chip to use the stored solar energy for electrical power generation. The generator can produce, as a proof of concept, a power output of up to 0.1 nW (power output per unit volume up to 1.3 W m−3). Our results demonstrate that such a molecular thermal power generation system has a high potential to store and transfer solar power into electricity and is thus potentially independent of geographical restrictions.

  • Numerical analysis of radiative heat transfer in an inhomogeneous and non-isothermal combustion system considering H2O/CO2/CO and soot
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Numerical Methods for Heat and Fluid Flow. - 0961-5539. ; 27:9, s. 1967-1985
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose - H2O, CO2 and CO are three main species in combustion systems which have high volume fractions. In addition, soot has strong absorption in the infrared band. Thus, H2O, CO2, CO and soot may take important roles in radiative heat transfer. To provide calculations with high accuracy, all of the participating media should be considered non-gray media. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to study the effect of non-gray participating gases and soot on radiative heat transfer in an inhomogeneous and non-isothermal system. Design/methodology/approach - To solve the radiative heat transfer, the fluid flow as well as the pressure, temperature and species distributions were first computed by FLUENT. The radiative properties of the participating media are calculated by the Statistical Narrow Band correlated Kdistribution (SNBCK), which is based on the database of EM2C. The calculation of soot properties is based on the Mie scattering theory and Rayleigh theory. The radiative heat transfer is calculated by the discrete ordinate method (DOM). Findings - Using SNBCK to calculate the radiative properties and DOM to calculate the radiative heat transfer, the influence of H2O, CO2, CO and soot on radiation heat flux to the wall in combustion system was studied. The results show that the global contribution of CO to the radiation heat flux on the wall in the kerosene furnace was about 2 per cent, but that it can reach up to 15 per cent in a solid fuel gasifier. The global contribution of soot to the radiation heat flux on the wall was 32 per cent. However, the scattering of soot has a tiny influence on radiation heat flux to the wall. Originality/value - This is the first time H2O, CO2, CO and the scattering of soot were all considered simultaneously to study the radiation heat flux in combustion systems.

  • Lead-Free Cs2BiAgBr6 Double Perovskite-Based Humidity Sensor with Superfast Recovery Time
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Advanced Functional Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 1616-301X .- 1616-3028. ; 29:24
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lead halide perovskites have demonstrated outstanding achievements in photoelectric applications owing to their unique properties. However, the moisture sensitivity of lead halide perovskite has rarely been developed into an applicable humidity sensor due to the intrinsic instability and toxicity issue. Herein, as a highly stable lead-free perovskite, a Cs2BiAgBr6 thin film is chosen to be the active material for humidity sensor due to its extraordinary humidity-dependent electrical properties and good stability. This Cs2BiAgBr6 thin film humidity sensor demonstrates a superfast response time (1.78 s) and recovery time (0.45 s). The superfast response and recovery properties can be attributed to the reversible physisorption of water molecules, which can be easily adsorbed onto or desorbed from the thin film surface. Moreover, the sensor also shows an excellent reliability and stability properties as well as logarithmic linearity in a relative humidity's range of 15% to 78%. The lead-free Cs2BiAgBr6 perovskite possesses great potential for application in real-time humidity sensing.

  • Evaluation of different extraction procedures for determination of organic Mercury species in petroleum by high performance liquid chromatography coupled with cold vapor atomic fluorescence spectrometry
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Talanta. - : Elsevier BV. - 0039-9140 .- 1873-3573. ; 106, s. 60-65
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An extraction procedure for extracting organic mercury species including methylmercury (MeHg) and ethylmercury (EtHg) from petroleum samples was developed. Three extraction methods (shaking, ultrasonic and microwave assisted extraction) using different extraction solvents (TMAH, KOH/CH3OH, HCl and acidic CuSO4/KBr) were investigated by comparing the extraction efficiency of the organic mercury species. Microwave assisted extraction at 60 W for 5 min using TMAH (tetramethylammonium hydroxide, 25%, m/v) provided the most satisfactory extraction efficiency for MeHg and EtHg in petroleum at 86.7% ± 3.4% and 70.6% ± 5.9%, respectively. Speciation analysis of mercury was done by on-line coupling of high performance liquid chromatography with cold vapor generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HPLC-CV-AFS). The proposed method was successfully applied to analyze several crude oil and light oil samples. The concentrations of MeHg ranged from under detection limit to 0.515 ng g(-1), whereas EtHg was not detected in the samples. This method can be a very useful tool in evaluating the risk of mercury emissions from petroleum.

  • SHARPIN stabilizes estrogen receptor a and promotes breast cancer cell proliferation
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Oncotarget. - : Impact Journals, LLC. - 1949-2553. ; 8:44, s. 77137-77151
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Estrogen receptor a is expressed in the majority of breast cancers and promotes estrogen-dependent cancer progression. In our study, we identified the novel E3 ubiquitin ligase SHARPIN function to facilitate ERα signaling. SHARPIN is highly expressed in human breast cancer and correlates with ERα protein level by immunohistochemistry. SHARPIN expression level correlates with poor prognosis in ERα positive breast cancer patients. SHARPIN depletion based RNA-sequence data shows that ERα signaling is a potential SHARPIN target. SHARPIN depletion significantly decreases ERα protein level, ERα target genes expression and estrogen response element activity in breast cancer cells, while SHARPIN overexpression could reverse these effects. SHARPIN depletion significantly decreases estrogen stimulated cell proliferation in breast cancer cells, which effect could be further rescued by ERα overexpression. Further mechanistic study reveals that SHARPIN mainly localizes in the cytosol and interacts with ERα both in the cytosol and the nuclear. SHARPIN regulates ERα signaling through protein stability, not through gene expression. SHARPIN stabilizes ERα protein via prohibiting ERα protein poly-ubiquitination. Further study shows that SHARPIN could facilitate the mono-ubiquitinaiton of ERα at K302/303 sites and facilitate ERE luciferase activity. Together, our findings propose a novel ERα modulation mechanism in supporting breast cancer cell growth, in which SHARPIN could be one suitable target for development of novel therapy for ERα positive breast cancer.

  • The NF-κB-modulated miR-19a-3p enhances malignancy of human ovarian cancer cells through inhibition of IGFBP-3 expression
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Molecular Carcinogenesis. - : Wiley. - 0899-1987 .- 1098-2744. ; 58:12, s. 2254-2265
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecologic malignancy due to the lack of symptoms until advanced stages, and new diagnosis and treatment strategy is in urgent need. In this study, we found higher expression of miR-19a-3p in ovarian cancer tissues compared with that in the adjacent normal tissues. By chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) analysis, we showed that nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) binds to the promoter of miR-19a-3p, leading to reduced expression in ovarian cancer cells. Further study indicated that miR-19a-3p inhibits the expression of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3), resulting in enhanced growth and migration of ovarian cancer cells in vitro and tumor growth in vivo. These results showed that miR-19a-3p enhances the oncogenesis of ovarian cancer through inhibition of IGFBP-3 expression, and which can be inhibited by NF-κB, suggesting an NF-κB/miR-19a-3p/IGFBP-3 pathway in the oncogenesis of ovarian cancer, which expands our understanding of ovarian cancer and they may contribute to the development of new diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer.

  • The coin-turning walk and its scaling limit
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Electronic Journal of Probability. - 1083-6489. ; 25
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Let S be the random walk obtained from “coin turning” with some sequence {pn}n≥2, as introduced in [8]. In this paper we investigate the scaling limits of S in the spirit of the classical Donsker invariance principle, both for the heating and for the cooling dynamics. We prove that an invariance principle, albeit with a non-classical scaling, holds for “not too small” sequences, the order const·n−1 (critical cooling regime) being the threshold. At and below this critical order, the scaling behavior is dramatically different from the one above it. The same order is also the critical one for the Weak Law of Large Numbers to hold. In the critical cooling regime, an interesting process emerges: it is a continuous, piecewise linear, recurrent process, for which the one-dimensional marginals are Beta-distributed. We also investigate the recurrence of the walk and its scaling limit, as well as the ergodicity and mixing of the nth step of the walk.
