  • Investigation of the Li-9+H-2 -> Li-8+t reaction at REX-ISOLDE
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 635, s. 17-17
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The one-neutron transfer reaction Li-9 + H-2 -> Li-8 + t has been investigated in an inverse kinematics experiment by bombarding a deuterated polypropylene target with a 2.36 MeV/u Li-9 beam from the post-accelerator REX-ISOLDE at CERN. Excitation energies in Li-8 as well as angular distributions of the tritons were obtained and spectroscopic factors deduced. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Low energy reactions with radioactive ions at REX-ISOLDE - the Li-9+H-2 case
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474. ; 748, s. 374-374
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • At the newly constructed postaccelerator REX-ISOLDE (Radioactive beam Experiment at ISOLDE) we have investigated reactions induced by a Li-9 beam incident on a deuterium target at an energy of 2.36 MeV/u. Most reaction channels were recorded. From one-neutron transfer the differential cross-section for the low lying Li-10 spectrum is found. The results from the other channels demonstrate the great applicability and many possibilities that REX-ISOLDE opens up.

  • Accelerated radioactive beams from REX-ISOLDE
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms. - 0168-583X. ; 204, s. 20-20
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In 2001 the linear accelerator of the Radioactive beam EXperiment (REX-ISOLDE) delivered for the first time accelerated radioactive ion beams, at a beam energy of 2 MeV/u. REX-ISOLDE uses the method of charge-state breeding, in order to enhance the charge state of the ions before injection into the LINAC. Radioactive singly-charged ions from the on-line mass separator ISOLDE are first accumulated in a Penning trap, then charge bred to an A/q

  • Large asymmetry in the strongest beta-transition for A=9
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 576:1-2, s. 55-61
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new measurement of the beta-decay of Li-9 has clarified the feeding to the highest accessible states in Be-9. It is found that the P-decay mainly populates the 11.8 MeV state, whose spin is determined as 5/2(-). The extracted B-GT value of 5.3(0.9) is a factor 4.4(1.0) larger than that of the mirror transition from C-9. A theoretical explanation of such a pronounced beta-decay asymmetry is presently lacking. • A RASSF1A-HIF1 alpha loop drives Warburg effect in cancer and pulmonary hypertension
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723. ; 10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hypoxia signaling plays a major role in non-malignant and malignant hyperproliferative diseases. Pulmonary hypertension (PH), a hypoxia-driven vascular disease, is characterized by a glycolytic switch similar to the Warburg effect in cancer. Ras association domain family 1A (RASSF1A) is a scaffold protein that acts as a tumour suppressor. Here we show that hypoxia promotes stabilization of RASSF1A through NOX-1- and protein kinase C- dependent phosphorylation. In parallel, hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1 alpha) activates RASSF1A transcription via HIF-binding sites in the RASSF1A promoter region. Vice versa, RASSF1A binds to HIF-1 alpha, blocks its prolyl-hydroxylation and proteasomal degradation, and thus enhances the activation of the glycolytic switch. We find that this mechanism operates in experimental hypoxia-induced PH, which is blocked in RASSF1A knockout mice, in human primary PH vascular cells, and in a subset of human lung cancer cells. We conclude that RASSF1A-HIF-1 alpha forms a feedforward loop driving hypoxia signaling in PH and cancer.

  • Chinese influence on the DPRK negotiations
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Peace Review. - 1040-2659 .- 1469-9982. ; 16:2, s. 219-224
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite its isolation, and its social and economic problems, the DPRK continues to disregard negotiations with the U.S. and has, according to the U.S., violated established agreements. It's true that the U.S. policy towards the DPRK has been less than cooperative, which has worried North Korea's Northeast Asian neighbors. Pyongyang's only reliable ally has traditionally been the People Republic of China (PRC), but even the Chinese have recently begun to revaluate the advantages of supporting Pyongyang. The Chinese support is partly born out of the fear of having U.S. troops at the Chinese-Korean border, but also because a DPRK collapse would, apart from a probable war, create huge waves of refugees. The Chinese impact on negotiations has been affected by its ambivalence both toward the DPRK and toward the U.S. military position in the Korean peninsula. The Chinese fear that a U.S. intervention would dissolve the DPRK and create a united Korea controlled by the Americans. There is also a strong concern in Beijing over Pyongyang's interest in developing nuclear weapons. Apart from the inherent dangers of Kim Jong-Il being armed with such weapons, his acquisition of them would undoubtedly lead to a popular demand in Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) to acquire nuclear capabilities, something that would further threaten regional security. This ambivalence, in combination with the potentially severe economic and political consequences of war and refugee flows, makes the Chinese an uncomfortable ally of Pyongyang. Beijing has been accused by the West of pressuring Pyongyang to take a hard position against the United States, rather than encouraging cooperation. On the other hand Beijing has also been a positive force in urging the North Koreans to communicate with the United States. Thus, it's worth examining what role and impact the PRC has had to date in the negotiations with DPRK, and what role it may play in the future.
