  • Utvärdering av återvinning av CFC i byggisoleringsmaterial
  • 2013

  • Women's earnings are more affected by inflammatory bowel disease than men's : a register-based Swedish cohort study
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Crohn's & Colitis. - : Elsevier. - 1873-9946 .- 1876-4479. ; 15:6, s. 980-987
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND/AIM: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have more work disability than the general population. We aimed to estimate the monetary cost of IBD for the individual through assessment of earnings in relation to diagnosis.METHODS: Through linkage of national registers we identified patients aged 30-55 years at first IBD diagnosis in Sweden 2002-2011, and same-sex IBD-free siblings. We estimated taxable earnings and disposable income from 5 years before to 5 years after diagnosis.RESULTS: The 5,961 patients (27% Crohn's disease, 68% ulcerative colitis, 4.3% IBD unclassified) had similar taxable earnings as their 7,810 siblings until the year of diagnosis, when earnings decreased and remained lower than in siblings during follow-up. The adjusted difference in earnings over the entire 5-year period after diagnosis was -5% (-8,212€; 95%CI: -11,458 to-4,967). The difference was larger in women than in men, and larger in Crohn's disease than in ulcerative colitis. When stratifying for sex and IBD subtype and comparing earnings during each year of follow-up, the median annual earnings were lower in women with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis than in their sisters during all years of follow-up, whereas the men had similar annual taxable earnings as their brothers. The disposable income was similar between patients and siblings during the investigated time period.CONCLUSION: From the year of diagnosis and at least 5 years onwards, patients with IBD had 5% lower earnings than siblings, mainly explained by differences between women with IBD and their sisters. However, there were no differences in disposable income.

  • Teachers’ lives in transition : gendered experiences of work and family among primary school teachers in northern Sweden, c. 1860–1940
  • 2021
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this thesis, primary school teachers in a coastal area of northern Sweden c. 1860–1940 are studied with the overarching purpose to investigate the link between professional work and private life. Four sub-studies provide results on who the teachers were with regard to gender, professional status (teacher qualification) and socio-economic background, and on their family formation during the study period. Dis(similarities) over time and between the genders are analysed and discussed within a life-course framework, especially concerning women’s possibility to become teachers and combine their employment with family formation. The findings are obtained through quantitative as well as qualitative analyses of multiple sources like digitised parish records, censuses, teacher registers and a diary. The latter provides unique insights into the everyday life of a young woman and her interaction with the local community through her teacher position and social networks. The results show both continuity and change. The recruitment pattern of primary school teachers in terms of social origin remained stable throughout the study period. A farming origin was most typical while children of higher professionals were most likely to become teachers, but this group alone could not cover the need for new teachers. National reforms of the teacher training and its increasing accessibility on a regional level had a big impact on the number, qualification, and gender composition of primary school teachers in the study area. Results on the dynamic link between work and family formation show that female teachers were among the first middle-class women to increase their share in experiencing motherhood. In the 20th century, an increasing proportion of women who entered the teaching profession returned to it after having children. Overall, the thesis results show that women teachers in contrast to their male counterparts experienced fundamental transitions in their professional as well as family life. This indicates a shift in the perception of a respectable woman teacher. In the 19th century, she could be either a teacher or a mother but rarely both at the same time. Along with changes in societal structures and gendered norms during the 20th century, teaching mothers became far more common suggesting that they enjoyed respectability. The variety of findings of this thesis and its mix of methods allow it to contribute to several fields within history, such as social history, historical demography, gender history and history of education.

  • Free volume and transport properties of homogeneous poly (ethylene-co-octene)s
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Polymer. - : Elsevier BV. - 0032-3861 .- 1873-2291. ; 45:11, s. 3913-3922
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Liquid and vapour n-hexane sorption/desorption were studied on homogeneous poly(ethylene-co-octene)s produced by metallocene-catalyzed polymerisation covering a crystallinity range from 3.5 to 72.4%. Crystal core contents determined by Raman spectroscopy were lower than those determined by density assessments, particularly at low degrees of crystallinity. The solubility showed deviation from Henry's law. The solubilities of n-hexane in the homogeneous copolymers depended in a non-linear manner on the content of penetrable polymer component and were lower than those earlier reported for heterogeneous copolymers at the same contents of penetrable component. The concentration dependence of the thermodynamic diffusivity predicted by the Cohen-Turnbull-Fujita free volume theory was confirmed by the data obtained by the differential method and the differences between the results obtained from the integral and differential methods were within the margins of experimental error. The fractional free Volume of the penetrable polymer fraction increased with increasing fraction of penetrable polymer and with relative proportion of liquid-like component in the penetrable polymer fraction. The homogeneous copolymers showed a decreasing trend in the geometrical impedance factor with increasing degree of crystallinity.

  • Restorative Surgery Is More Common In Ulcerative Colitis Patients with a High Income : A Population-Based Study
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Diseases of the Colon & Rectum. - : Springer. - 0012-3706 .- 1530-0358. ; 64:3, s. 301-312
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: To avoid a permanent stoma, restorative surgery is performed after the colectomy. Previous studies have shown that less than half of patients with ulcerative colitis undergo restorative surgery.OBJECTIVE: The primary aim was to explore the association between socioeconomic status and restorative surgery after colectomy.DESIGN: This was a nationwide register-based cohort study.SETTINGS: The study was conducted in Sweden.PATIENTS: All Swedish patients with ulcerative colitis who underwent colectomy between 1990 and 2017 at the age of 15 to 69 years were included.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The main outcome was restorative surgery, and the secondary outcome was failure of the reconstruction (defined as the need for a new ileostomy after the reconstruction or nonreversal of a defunctioning stoma within 2 years of the reconstruction). To calculate HRs for restorative surgery after colectomy, as well as failure after restorative surgery, multivariable Cox regression models were performed (adjusted for sex, year of colectomy, colorectal cancer diagnosis, education, civil status, country of birth, income (quartiles 1 to 4, where Q4 represents highest income), hospital volume, and stratified by age).RESULTS: In all, 5969 patients with ulcerative colitis underwent colectomy, and of those, 2794 (46.8%) underwent restorative surgery. Restorative surgery was more common in patients with a high income at the time of colectomy (quartile 1, reference; quartile 2, 1.09 (0.98-1.21); quartile 3, 1.20 (1.07-1.34); quartile 4, 1.27 (1.13-1.43)) and less common in those born in a Nordic country than in immigrants born in a non-Nordic country (0.86 (0.74-0.99)), whereas no association was seen with educational level and civil status. There was no association between socioeconomic status and the risk of failure after restorative surgery.LIMITATIONS: The study was restricted to register data.CONCLUSIONS: Restorative surgery in ulcerative colitis appears to be more common in patients with a high income and patients born in a non-Nordic country, indicating inequality in the provided care. • A human protein atlas for normal and cancer tissues based on antibody proteomics
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Molecular & Cellular Proteomics. - 1535-9476 .- 1535-9484. ; 4:12, s. 1920-1932
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Antibody-based proteomics provides a powerful approach for the functional study of the human proteome involving the systematic generation of protein-specific affinity reagents. We used this strategy to construct a comprehensive, antibody-based protein atlas for expression and localization profiles in 48 normal human tissues and 20 different cancers. Here we report a new publicly available database containing, in the first version, similar to 400,000 high resolution images corresponding to more than 700 antibodies toward human proteins. Each image has been annotated by a certified pathologist to provide a knowledge base for functional studies and to allow queries about protein profiles in normal and disease tissues. Our results suggest it should be possible to extend this analysis to the majority of all human proteins thus providing a valuable tool for medical and biological research.

  • Primary Versus Staged Reconstruction and Risk of Surgical Failure in Patients With Ulcerative Colitis : a Nation-wide Cohort Study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. - : Oxford University Press. - 1078-0998 .- 1536-4844. ; 28:9, s. 1301-1308
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lay Summary: This population-based study of 2172 patients treated with colectomy for ulcerative colitis shows that a colectomy and restorative IRA/IPAA surgery performed simultaneously entails a higher risk of failure than when reconstruction is performed later. Background: Restorative surgery after colectomy due to ulcerative colitis (UC) may be performed simultaneously with colectomy (primary) or as a staged procedure. Risk factors for failure after restorative surgery are not fully explored. This study aimed to compare the risk of failure after primary and staged reconstruction. Methods: This is a national register-based cohort study of all patients 15 to 69 years old in Sweden treated with colectomy due to UC and who received an ileorectal anastomosis (IRA) or ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) between 1997 and 2017. Failure was defined as a reoperation with new ileostomy after restorative surgery or a remaining defunctioning ileostomy after 2 years. Risk of failure was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression adjusted for sex, age, calendar period, primary sclerosing cholangitis, and duration of UC.Results: Of 2172 included patients, 843 (38.8%) underwent primary reconstruction, and 1329 (61.2%) staged reconstruction. Staged reconstruction was associated with a decreased risk of failure compared with primary reconstruction (hazard ratio, 0.73; 95% CI, 0.58-0.91). The 10-year cumulative risk of failure was 15% vs 20% after staged and primary reconstruction, respectively. In all, 1141 patients (52.5%) received an IPAA and 1031 (47.5%) an IRA. In stratified multivariable models, staged reconstruction was more successful than primary reconstruction in both IRA (hazard ratio, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.54-1.04) and IPAA (hazard ratio, 0.73; 95% CI, 0.52-1.01), although risk estimates failed to attain statistical significance. Conclusions: In UC patients undergoing colectomy, postponing restorative surgery may decrease the risk of failure.

  • Investigation of the emissions from an acrylate and a carpet adhesive in humid and alkaline environments by the micro-scale headspace vial (MHV) method
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Polymer degradation and stability. - : Elsevier BV. - 0141-3910 .- 1873-2321. ; 95:9, s. 1877-1882
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study, emissions from a carpet adhesive and an acrylate dispersion in simulated humid and alkaline environments were investigated by the micro-scale head space vial (MHV) method. Relative humidity (RH) levels of 75%, 86% and 93% were tested in combination with pH values in the range 10-13. The polymeric materials were exposed at these conditions in sealed 20 mL headspace vials. Chemical analysis of the volatile emission products was performed by headspace solid-phase micro-extraction with subsequent gas chromatography mass spectrometry after three and 36 days. The effect of the RH and pH on the emissions was investigated. It was found that 2-ethyl-1-hexanol was one of the major volatile constituents, and that the emissions of this compound increased dramatically for pH > 12. This can be explained by alkali catalyzed hydrolysis of ester-linked 2-ethylhexyl groups. The other compounds that were detected after exposure of the adhesive were not as strongly dependant on pH and RH as 2-ethyl-1-hexanol. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
