- Det här är en handbok som skrivits för att användas praktiskt i kampen om hyresrättens framtid. Boken har växt fram ur gemensamma erfarenheter av att ta strid mot renoveringar med höga hyreshöjningar som följd. Det har gett oss både kunskaper om lokal organisering och en övertygelse om vikten av att hyresgäster ska ha rätt till att påverka framtiden i de bostadsområden de bor i. De senaste åren har vi kunnat se hur hyreslägenheter renoveras med omfattande hyreshöjningar som följd. Konsekvenserna har blivit att många hyresgäster har tvingats flytta, ibland från bostadsområden de bott i under lång tid, då de inte längre har råd att betala hyran. Om inte hyresgäster går samman och kräver sina rättigheter kommer inget förändras och flera tusentals människor tvingas flytta. Den här handboken ska användas som ett praktiskt verktyg för lokal organisering. Vi som har gjort den här boken är engagerade i olika rörelser, några av oss är också forskare med inriktning mot bostad- spolitik och stadsutveckling. Boken har tillkommit genom en kollektiv process, där många varit inblandade för att bidra med sina erfarenheter och perspektiv. En lista med alla medverkande inklusive de rörelser som står bakom den här boken finns lägst bak.

Concentration enrichment of urea at cellulose surfaces : results from molecular dynamics simulations and NMR spectroscopy

- A combined solid-state NMR and Molecular Dynamics simulation study of cellulose in urea aqueous solution and in pure water was conducted. It was found that the local concentration of urea is significantly enhanced at the cellulose/solution interface. There, urea molecules interact directly with the cellulose through both hydrogen bonds and favorable dispersion interactions, which seem to be the driving force behind the aggregation. The CP/MAS (13)C spectra was affected by the presence of urea at high concentrations, most notably the signal at 83.4 ppm, which has previously been assigned to C4 atoms in cellulose chains located at surfaces parallel to the (110) crystallographic plane of the cellulose I beta crystal. Also dynamic properties of the cellulose surfaces, probed by spin-lattice relaxation time (13)CT (1) measurements of C4 atoms, are affected by the addition of urea. Molecular Dynamics simulations reproduce the trends of the T (1) measurements and lends new support to the assignment of signals from individual surfaces. That urea in solution is interacting directly with cellulose may have implications on our understanding of the mechanisms behind cellulose dissolution in alkali/urea aqueous solutions.

Towards a sustainable media system : Explorative studies of emerging media consumption trends and media processes for content production

- Understanding the process of transformational change currently taking place in the media industry is an urgent challenge for people working in the industry as well as for media consumers and other stakeholders. There is a great need to deepen our general knowledge when it comes to what the future media landscape will look like. Which of the major consumption trends that exist today will continue and possibly lead to disruptive change? Which of today’s existing trends could give us a hint of tomorrow’s media landscape? Furthermore, we need to explore the environmental impact of the future media landscape. What parameters are important when it comes to environmental aspects of media consumption, as well as in the production and distribution of media content? These are examples of the questions explored in this thesis.I have used a number of methods, such as qualitative interviews, workshops, scenarios, case studies, process studies and life cycle assessment, in order to explore the research questions. The characteristics of the media consumption trends are presented in four scenarios. I have assumed that the strength of influence from the government in combination with the strength of commercial powers will strongly affect the future of media. The development of media is framed by the economy, the political system, and by culture. The future of media is closely connected with its relationship to the power structures in society.I have also defined eleven parameters, as central when discussing the environmental aspects of media consumption. These parameters are related to electronic devices, travel, transportation, energy use and waste. In the future, we may see the realisation of some of all four scenarios described in this thesis. The environmental aspects of these different future directions depend on each person’s life situation and a number of choices that each consumer makes concerning environmental issues, in combination with the overall societal structure.In relation to the global challenge of climate change/global warming, I conclude that traditional media, public service media in particular, together with social media channels play an important role in the process of increasing knowledge and awareness among consumers, politicians and other stakeholders in society. However, in current media development, media companies are rapidly becoming more commercialized and more focused on entertainment instead of on producing serious journalism concerned with social, political and cultural matters.To conclude, I believe that it is possible to create a sustainable media system, but it will require some conscious effort of people working in the media industry, of consumers, and ultimately at the level of regulatory authorities.

Drawing Science : Visual Content Formation in Young Students’ Multimodal Science Compositions

- This thesis explores visual formation of science content in young students’ multimodal text-image compositions. In doing so, it also contributes a metalanguage for visual meaning-making about science content in the early school years. Using social semiotic theory, the images and image-text relations of 93 multimodal compositions made by eight-year-old students as part of their science education were analysed. The results show that young students’ visual formation of science content in their text-image compositions is diverse and often complex. The thesis introduces seven types of content representation: theory, natural experience, event, art, person, attitude-evoking, and cultural heritage. These are usually combined with some of the other types. An in-depth analysis of these combinations suggests that the representations do not carry the same weight in creating a coherent multimodal science composition – they either function as the main representation or as a modifier. Mapping students’ representations in relation to teaching also indicates the impact teaching has on students’ visual formation of science content. Furthermore, a broadened analysis provided insights into three types of functions that aesthetics have for visual formation of science content. Each of these fulfils a set of values that makes it more or less aligned with the norms of science. The types correspond to a classic science norm, an extended science norm, and an artistic norm, respectively. Finally, the discussion outlines the implications of the results for teaching and learning. The results are discussed in relation to a broadened focus on content in literacy teaching during the early school years, followed by a discussion on how contributed metalanguage and methodology could function as tools for explicit teaching and assessment, and representations as tools for understanding. In conclusion, the thesis provides a flexible addition to the toolbox for students, teachers and researchers interested in how meaning-making about science content during the early school years works in relation to knowledge and norms.

- By entrepreneurial combinations of voluntary resources, project means from public and private sources, commissions on contracts and other ways of financing, the youth house Fryshuset, with a great number of social activities for primarily young people in Stockholm, Sweden, has been able to allocate resources for establishing and expanding its activities. This development would not have been possible without struggle against established norms, values, traditions and institutions, not least the 'close to monopoly' that the public sector in practice was having on the fields in which Fryshuset emerged. Step by step, Fryshuset has built partnerships and alliances with public, private as well as civil actors. Expressed in a general way, Fryshuset has built a new social capital and created new norms and values. The aim of the paper is to investigate how Fryshuset has managed to build social capital through, and for entrepreneurial efforts aiming to facilitate young peoples' development.

- Studentbarometern 2018 visade att studenter önskar mer stöd kring introduktion till högskolestudier, studieteknik, akademiskt skrivande, stresshantering, hantera gruppkonflikter och uppskjutandebeteende. Stöd finns redan vid Högskolan men studenterna nyttjar inte det som finns och stödet är åtskilt från ordinarie studier. Projekt integrerat stöd (PIS; 2019-2023) utarbetar former för att integrera stödinsatser till studenter i fem pilotprogram och drivs av programansvariga lärare (PA) tillsammans med funktioner inom verksamhetsstödet, främst Studentstöd, Bibliotek och högskolepedagogisk koordinator. PIS siktar på att bidra till studenternas karriär och identitetsutveckling, ge förutsättningar för hållbara studier och få akademiskt skickliga studenter. Korhonen, Mattson, Inkinen och Toom (2019) föreslår att arbeta parallellt med en individuell process för att utveckla studentens akademiska skicklighet, och en kollegial process där institutionerna bjuder in till delaktighet och tillhörighet. Båda processerna anses vara avgörande för ökat studentengagemang och minskad risk för avhopp. Denna presentation hålls utifrån olika perspektiv såsom PA och olika verksamheter inom verksamhetsstödet: Studentstöd, Bibliotek och Studieverkstan. I kommande avsnitt ges fyra exempel på genomförda aktiviteter och insatser.Inventering av program PIS startades med en kartläggning av befintliga insatser inom berörda områden på respektive program. Med befintliga insatser, idéskissen och programmens kursplaner som utgångspunkt togs därefter ett reviderat förslag på nya samordnande och mer integrerade insatser fram. Det faktum att PA och kursansvariga arbetade tillsammans gav en tydligare helhetsbild och en större pedagogisk förståelse för hur en insats i en kurs påverkar insatser på andra kurser och på programmet som helhet.Bibliotek och Studieverkstan PIS har inneburit möjligheten att arbeta ”extra” med lärarna i projektet. Initialt, tillsammans med PA, identifierades kurser lämpliga för undervisningsinsatser. Därefter kontaktade PA kursansvariga för att tillsammans med biblioteket/Studieverkstan planera undervisningen. I vissa fall utvecklades nya undervisningsmoment och examinationsformer. I andra fall anpassades och ̊återanvändes upplägg och material från ett program till andra program. Resultatet har blivit en bättre progression i studenternas informationskompetens och ett förbättrat samarbete med lärarna. Studieverkstan har skapat nya kontaktytor med lärare och nått ut till nya studentgrupper.Akademiska ramar ”Vi blev ett vi”, ett spontant uttalande från studenterna själva. Över 100 studenter startade hösten 2020 det nätbaserade kandidatprogrammet inom folkhälsovetenskap. PIS gav kullen en kickstart att lära känna varandra genom att studenterna redan före utbildningens start fick möjlighet att skriva en presentation om sig själva som kunde läsas på programsajten. Det gav en trygghet som förstärktes när studenterna, av studie- och karriärvägledare, introducerades i det akademiska ansvaret för att kunna gå från att vara elev till att bli student. Att få informationen frånstudentstödet var framgångsrikt då ramarna för högskolestudier blev tydligare än om de hade blandats med ämnesinformation från läraren.Metareflektioner Inom kandidatprogrammet User Experience Design fokuserar vi på metareflektioner för att hjälpa studenterna utveckla akademiskt ansvar samt skicklighet. Meta-reflektionerna genomförs i form av programträffar där varje träff utgår från ett relevant tema (t.ex., grupparbete och studieteknik) och som ger studenterna reflektionsmöjlighet kring sina studier utifrån egna erfarenheter. En student reflekterade exempelvis kring hur mycket studier och studieteknik skiljer sig mellan gymnasium och högre utbildning, vilket kom som en chock. I många av programkurserna ingår också grupparbete, här får studenterna reflektera kring vad som gynnar ett bra samarbete, exempelvis vad som fungerat bra och mindre bra i föregående kurs samt den egna rollen i ett lyckat grupp(sam)arbete.ReferenserKorhonen V., Mattsson M., Inkinen M., & Toom A.
