- Background: Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) is independently associated with an increased risk for hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) can reduce mortality and morbidity, but low compliance rates are seen. Aim: To explore and describe the experiences of CPAP-treatment in a young male patient with severe OSAS during a 6-month period from the couples perspective. Methods and the case: A single case study with a phenomenographic approach was employed. Diagnostic procedures of OSAS and initiation of treatment with Auto-CPAP, humidifier and a nasal mask were performed during 4 visits. Conceptions were collected at 4 different occasions during the 6-month period (before, and 2 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months after treatment initiation) by means of interviews with a 33-year old male patient and his female partner. Findings: Totally 17 different structural aspects were found to fluctuate during the 6-month period in relation to; influence of stressors, social reactions and adaptation to increase compliance. Conclusion: An increased knowledge about the influence of stressors, the social reactions, and the adaptation can help healthcare personnel to identify and better understand concerns of other patients and spouses during different time phases of the initial 6-month period of CPAP-treatment.

- The ongoing research work concentrates on extending the previously accomplished UTC-PD fabrication and modelling techniques to 340 GHz and above. We have fabricated and characterized UTC-PDs intended for high power MW/THz generation. Several integrated antenna-detector circuits have been designed and characterised.

- Because of the inherent difficulty to generate power in the frequency range 0.l-10 THz, the term 'THzgap' has been coined. Among a number of MW/THz generation techniques, the photomixer based sources hold high potential offering wide tunability and decent amounts of output power. The photomixing technique relies on the nonlinear mixing of two closely spaced laser wavelengths generating a beat oscillation at the difference frequency. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the Uni-Travelling-Carrier PhotoDiode (UTCPD) [1] for photomixing, photo receivers, MW/THz-wave generation, fibre-optic communication systems, and wireless communications. UTC-PDs have become very promising by demonstrating output powers of 20 mW at 100 GHz [1] and 25 μW at 0.9 THz [2].

Heterogeneity of sickness absence and disability pension trajectories among individuals with MS

- Background The variability of progression of multiple sclerosis (MS) suggests that MS is a heterogeneous entity.Objective The objective of this article is to determine whether sickness absence (SA) and disability pension (DP) could be used to identify groups of patients with different progression courses.Methods We analyzed mean-annual net months of SA/DP, five years prior to MS diagnosis, until the year of diagnosis, and five years after for 3543 individuals diagnosed 2003–2006, by modeling trajectory subgroups.Results Five different groups were identified, revealing substantial heterogeneity among MS patients. Before diagnosis, 74% had a flat trajectory, while the remaining had a sharply increasing degree of SA/DP. After diagnosis, 95% had a flat or marginally increasing trajectory, although at various SA/disability pension (DP) levels, whereas a small group of 5% had decreasing SA/DP. A majority had few or no SA/DP months throughout the 11-year study period. Higher age and a lower educational level were associated with an unfavorable trajectory (p values <0.01).Conclusions There’s a considerable heterogeneity of MS progression in terms of SA/DP. Compared with other measures of disability, sickness-absence and disability pension offer a continuous variable that can be assigned to every individual for each time period without missing data. To what extent the SA/DP measure reflects classical MS outcome-measures as well as how correlated it is with co-morbidities and working-conditions needs to be investigated further.

- Blue Move har utarbeidet en rapport som belyser 12 ulike muligheter for produksjon, industri, lagring og distribusjon av hydrogen i ØKS-regionen.Rapporten belyser ogs viktigheten av lav elavgift for hydrogenproduksjon gjennom beregninger gjort for en nyetablert hydrogenstasjon.Interreg-prosjektet Blue Move arbeider for å fremme økt bruk av fornybar energi som erstatning for fossile drivstoff i ØKS-regionen. Mulighetsstudien som er samlet i denne rapporten ser nærmere på hvilke produksjonsmetoder som er mest relevante, relatert til tilgjengelig fornybar kraft. Videre beskriver den hvordan hydrogenet kan anvendes utover veitransport, og på hvilken måte det kan ha betydning for veitransport at det også kommer andre anvendelsesområder.
