  • Information Technology Projects: leaving the "magic" to the "wizards".
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Information Systems Development: Towards a Service Provision Society.. - Boston, MA : Springer US. - 9780387848099 ; , s. 349-356
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we explore the significant challenges relating to investment in IT in business. Information technology does not in itself deliver business value. We highlight the complexities that are often ignored in management of IT projects. If the management system in an organization is ineffective, then installing information technologies does not constitute a ‘magic wand’ that will generate prosperity. It can only generate value if attention is paid to the design of the system for use at the same time that technological systems are developed. The authors explore how IT benefits require attention from management generally, and show that investment in IT projects cannot be left to ‘IT experts’ alone. We point out that undue reliance on rational planning is unsatisfactory, as it ignores contextual dependencies in organizational life. Criteria by which the success/failure of projects is to be judged must go beyond a focus on timescales, budgets and ‘requirement specifications’. We suggest that the criteria need to be expanded to embrace usefulness of resultant systems, as perceived by organizational staff as they attempt to use them in carrying out their work.

  • Advances in Information Systems Development : Bridging the Gap between Academia and Industry
  • 2006
  • Bok (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The two-volume Advances in Information Systems Development: Bridging the Gap between Academia and Industry constitutes the collected proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Information Systems Development: Methods and Tools, Theory and Practice - ISD'2005 Conference. The focus of these volumes is to examine the exchange of ideas between academia and industry and aims to explore new solutions. The proceedings follow the seven conference tracks highlighted at the Conference: Co-design of Business and IT; Communication and Methods; Human Values of Information Technology; Service Development and IT; Requirements Engineering in the IS Life-Cycle; Semantic Web Approaches and Applications; and Management and IT.

  • ISD'2005 - Proceedings of the Fourteenth International Conference on Information Systems Development: Pre-Conference, 14-17 August, 2005, Karlstad, Sweden : Advances in Information Systems Development (ISD): Bridging the Gap between Academia and Practice
  • 2005
  • Bok (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Fourteenth International Conference on Information Systems Development, ISD'2005, is organised by Karlstad University, Sweden. This conference continues the fine tradition of the first Polish - Scandinavian Seminar on Current Trends on Information Systems Development Methodologies, held in 1988, Gdansk, Poland. Through the years this seminar has evolved into the "International Conference on Information Systems Development" (ISD Conference) as we knew today.Information Systems Development (ISD) progresses rapidly, continually creating new challenges for the professionals involved. New concepts, approaches and techniques of systems development emerge constantly in this field. Progress in ISD comes from research as well as from practice. The aim of the Conference is to provide an international forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences between academia and industry, and to stimulate exploration of new solutions. The Conference gives participants an opportunity to express ideas on the current state of the art in information systems development, and to discuss and exchange views about new methods, tools and applications.

  • 5G systems: The mmMAGIC project perspective on use cases and challenges between 6-100 GHz
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference, WCNC. - 1525-3511. ; , s. 200-205
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • mmMAGIC (Millimetre-Wave Based Mobile Radio Access Network for Fifth Generation Integrated Communications) is an EU funded 5G-PPP project, whose overall objective is to design and pre-develop a mobile radio access technology (RAT) operating in the 6-100 GHz range, capable of impacting standards and other relevant fora. The focus of the project is on extreme Mobile Broadband, which is expected to drive the 5G requirements for massive increase in capacity and data-rates. This paper elaborates on some 5G key research areas such as: identification of the most compelling use-cases and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for future 5G systems, advantages and challenges of millimeter-wave (mmWave) technologies, channel measurements and channel modeling, network architecture; and the design of a new mobile radio interface including multi-node and multi-Antenna transceiver architecture.
