  • Additive-Induced Synergies of Defect Passivation and Energetic Modification toward Highly Efficient Perovskite Solar Cells
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Advanced Energy Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 1614-6832 .- 1614-6840. ; 11:29
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Defect passivation via additive and energetic modification via interface engineering are two effective strategies for achieving high-performance perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Here, the synergies of pentafluorophenyl acrylate when used as additive, in which it not only passivates surface defect states but also simultaneously modifies the energetics at the perovskite/Spiro-OMeTAD interface to promote charge transport, are shown. The additive-induced synergy effect significantly suppresses both defect-assisted recombination and interface carrier recombination, resulting in a device efficiency of 22.42% and an open-circuit voltage of 1.193 V with excellent device stability. The two photovoltaic parameters are among the highest values for polycrystalline CsFormamidinium/Methylammonium (FAMA)/FAMA based n-i-p structural PSCs using low-cost silver electrodes reported to date. The findings provide a promising approach by choosing the dual functional additive to enhance efficiency and stability of PSCs.

  • The Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection (GRAND) : Science and design
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Science China Physics, Mechanics & Astronomy. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1674-7348 .- 1869-1927. ; 63:1
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection (GRAND) is a planned large-scale observatory of ultra-high-energy (UHE) cosmic particles, with energies exceeding 108 GeV. Its goal is to solve the long-standing mystery of the origin of UHE cosmic rays. To do this, GRAND will detect an unprecedented number of UHE cosmic rays and search for the undiscovered UHE neutrinos and gamma rays associated to them with unmatched sensitivity. GRAND will use large arrays of antennas to detect the radio emission coming from extensive air showers initiated by UHE particles in the atmosphere. Its design is modular: 20 separate, independent sub-arrays, each of 10000 radio antennas deployed over 10000 km(2). A staged construction plan will validate key detection techniques while achieving important science goals early. Here we present the science goals, detection strategy, preliminary design, performance goals, and construction plans for GRAND.

  • In Situ Reconstruction of Hole-Selective Perovskite Heterojunction with Graded Energetics Toward Highly Efficient and Stable Solar Cells
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Advanced Energy Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 1614-6832 .- 1614-6840. ; 13:27
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have demonstrated a high power conversion efficiency, however, the large energy loss due to non-radiative recombination is the main challenge for further performance enhancement. Here, a surface treatment strategy is developed by heat-induced decomposition of a thin interlayer 2,7-Naphthaleneditriflate (NAP) to in situ reconstruct perovskite energetics. It is verified that the reconstructed perovskite surface energetics match better with the upper hole transport layer compared to the intrinsic condition. Spontaneous generation of n/n(-) homojunctions between the perovskite film bulk and the surface region promotes hole extraction, enhancing built-in electric field, and thus significantly suppresses charge recombination at such perovskite hole-selective heterojunctions. Moreover, the surface decomposed fluorine-rich complexes passivate the defects and improve the crystallinity of the perovskite film. These advantages are confirmed by a remarkably improved efficiency from 20.52% for the control device to 23.37% for the treated one with excellent stability. The work provides a promising approach of in situ reconstructing perovskite surface and interface for the design of highly efficient and stable PSCs.

  • n-Doping of photoactive layer in binary organic solar cells realizes over 18.3% efficiency
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Nano Energy. - : ELSEVIER. - 2211-2855 .- 2211-3282. ; 96
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Electronic doping of conjugated semiconductor plays a critical role in the fabrication of high efficiency organic optoelectronic devices. Here, we report an organic solar cell (OSC) by doping n-type DMBI-BDZC into one host binary bulk heterojunction (BHJ) photoactive layer comprised of a polymer donor PM6 and a nonfullerene acceptor Y6. The resulting champion device yields a significantly improved power conversion efficiency from 17.17% to 18.33% with an impressive fill factor of 80.20%. It is found that the electrically doped photoactive layer exhibits enhanced and balanced charge carrier mobilities, more effective exciton dissociation, longer carrier lifetime, and suppressed charge recombination with smaller energy loss. The dopant molecule DMBIBDZC also act as a surface morphology modifier of the photoactive layer with enhanced charge transport. This work demonstrates that manipulation of charge transport via adding a low concentration dopant into photoactive layer is a promising approach for further improvement of BHJ OSC performance.

  • The inhibiting effect of Re-rich layer on the interdiffusion between NiAl and Ni3Al-based superalloy and its degradation
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Alloys and Compounds. - : ELSEVIER SCIENCE SA. - 0925-8388 .- 1873-4669. ; 957
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A NiAl alloy/ Ni3Al-based superalloy diffusion couple with an electroplated NiRe layer was prepared. High-temperature interdiffusion performance of the diffusion couple was analyzed at 1100 degrees C under argon at-mosphere and compared with that of the blank group without NiRe layer. A Re-based diffusion barrier formed during the diffusion. The microstructural instability of the superalloy was found to be alleviated by the Re-based diffusion barrier, and the detailed microstructure of the diffusion barrier was identified to be Re-rich a phases and Mo-rich << phase detected by TEM. The chemical diffusion coefficient of Al was reduced by about two orders of magnitude with the modification of the Re-based diffusion barrier. A microstructural degradation of the Re-based barrier layer was observed after high-temperature diffusion of 300 h, which can be attributed to the internal diffusion of Mo.(c) 2023 Elsevier B.V. • Three-dimensional flow structures and droplet-gas mixing process of a liquid jet in supersonic crossflow
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Aerospace Science and Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 1270-9638. ; 90, s. 140-156
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The mixing process of a liquid jet in supersonic crossflow with a Mach number of 2.1 was investigated numerically using large eddy simulation (LES) based on the Eulerian-Lagrangian method. The gas phase was described using the Navier-Stokes equations and the liquid phase was represented using discrete droplets, which were injected and tracked in the computational domain individually according to Newton's second law of motion. The KH (Kelvin-Helmholtz) breakup model was used to calculate the droplet stripping process, and the secondary breakup process was simulated by coupling the RT (Rayleigh-Taylor) breakup model and the TAB (Taylor Analogy Breakup) model. Two-way coupling was enforced to consider the momentum and energy exchange between the gas and the droplets. It was found that the LES predicted spray characteristics, including spray penetration and cross-sectional distribution, agree reasonably well with the experiment. The major gas flow structures such as the bow shock, the large-scale vortices, and the recirculation zones were replicated successfully in the simulations. It was found that the gas flow structures have a significant effect on the mixing process of the droplets. The simulation results revealed that two sets of counter-rotating vortex pair (CVP) exist in the gas-liquid mixing region. Under the influence of CVP, part droplets were transported to the near wall region and subsequently to both sides of the core spray region. The formation mechanism of the CVP was analyzed by comparing the pressure gradient and the source term of droplets in the Navier-Stokes equations. Differences of the mixing process of liquid jet in supersonic crossflow, gas jet in supersonic crossflow and liquid jet in incompressible crossflow were identified.

  • Balancing the pre-aggregation and crystallization kinetics enables high efficiency slot-die coated organic solar cells with reduced non-radiative recombination losses
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Energy & Environmental Science. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 1754-5692 .- 1754-5706. ; 13:8, s. 2467-2479
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Slot-die coating being compatible with the roll-to-roll technique has been regarded as a promising tool for upscaling the manufacturing of organic solar cells (OSCs). However, there has been a significant gap between the efficiencies of the state-of-the-art spin-coated devices and the scalable processed devices. The active layer morphology is crucial to achieve high efficiency in OSCs, which depends on the conditions of film fabrication. To figure out and optimize the slot-die coating process, a deeper understanding of the film formation kinetics is important. Herein, in situ measurements of the slot-die coating process based on the PM7:IT4F system are demonstrated to illustrate the aggregation and crystallization evolution at various die temperatures and substrate temperatures. OSCs with a high power conversion efficiency of 13.2% are achieved at 60 degrees C die temperature/60 degrees C substrate temperature due to the improved exciton dissociation, charge transport and suppressed non-radiative charge recombination. The optimized morphology is attributed to the balanced polymer pre-aggregation and small molecule crystallization kinetics. The unsuitable die temperature leads to overlarge phase separation and consequently inefficient exciton dissociation while the improper substrate temperature results in weak crystallization and the following shrunken carrier lifetime with strong non-radiative combination. This work provides fundamental understanding on the correlations among processing methodology, solution pre-aggregation, morphology formation kinetics, device physics and device performance and affords guidance for device optimization in scalable manufacturing.
