  • Influence of synaptic interaction on firing synchronization and spike death in excitatory neuronal networks
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Physical Review E. Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics. - New York : American Physical Society through the American Institute of Physics. - 1063-651X .- 1095-3787. ; 78:6, s. 061906-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate the influence of efficacy of synaptic interaction on firing synchronization in excitatoryneuronal networks. We find spike death phenomena: namely, the state of neurons transits from the limit cycleto a fixed point or transient state. The phenomena occur under the perturbation of an excitatory synapticinteraction, which has a high efficacy. We show that the decrease of synaptic current results in spike deaththrough depressing the feedback of the sodium ionic current. In the networks with the spike death property thedegree of synchronization is lower and insensitive to the heterogeneity of neurons. The mechanism of theinfluence is that the transition of the neuron state disrupts the adjustment of the rhythm of the neuronsoscillation and prevents a further increase of the firing synchronization.

  • Effect of the degree correlation in public goods game on scale-free networks
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Europhysics letters. - Les Ulis : European Physical Society. - 0295-5075 .- 1286-4854. ; 87:3, s. 30001-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We study the influence of degree correlation on the evolution of cooperation in the networked public goods game (PGG). With the aid of the analysis of the PGG on a double-star graph, we are able to investigate intuitively how the degree mixing patterns affect the transformation of individuals' strategies. We find that the assortative mixing among the individuals inhibits the emergence and sustainment of the cooperation, due to fact that the distinct core-periphery structure present in the assortative networks disable the hubs's ability to impact those remote leaf-vertices, and as a result the defection is easy to diffuse among them. In the disassortative networks, however, we observe that the absence of communication among the hubs cause them to almost keep their initial strategies, which is helpful for cooperators to persist in the case of very low multiplication factor of the PGG.

  • Integrating network structure and dynamic information for better routing strategy on scale-free networks
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physica A. - Amsterdam : North-Holland. - 0378-4371 .- 1873-2119. ; 388:12, s. 2547-2554
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study information packet routing processes on scale-free networks by mimicking the Internet traffic delivery strategies. We incorporate both the global network structure information and local queuing information in the dynamic processes. We propose several new routing strategies to guide the packet routing. The performance of the routing strategies is measured by the average transit time of the packets as well as their dependence on the traffic amount. We find that the routing strategies which integrate both global network structure information and local dynamic information perform much better than the traditional shortest-path routing protocol which takes into account only the global topological information. Moreover, from comparative studies of these routing strategies, we observe that some of our proposed methods can decrease the average transit time of packets but the performance is closely dependent on the total amount of traffic while some other proposed methods can have good performance independent of the total amount of traffic with hyper-excellent average transit time of packets. Also, numerical results show that our proposed methods integrating network structure information and local dynamic information can work much better than the methods recently proposed in [S. Sreenivasan, R. Cohen, E. López, Z. Toroczkai, H.E. Stanley, Phys. Rev. E 75 (2007) 036105, Zhi-Xi Wu, Gang Peng, Eric W.M. Wong, Kai-Hau Yeung, J. Stat. Mech. (2008) P11002.], which only considered network structure information.

  • Effects of social diversity on the emergence of global consensus in opinion dynamics
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physical Review E. Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics. - : American Physical Society. - 1063-651X .- 1095-3787. ; 80:4, s. 046108-046112
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose a variant of the voter model by introducing the social diversity in the evolution process. Each individual is assigned a weight that is proportional to the power of its degree, where the power exponent α is an adjustable parameter that controls the level of diversity among individuals in the network. At each time step, a pair of connected individuals, say i and j, are randomly selected to update their opinions. The probability pi of choosing is opinion as their common opinion is proportional to is weight. We consider the scale-free topology and concentrate on the efficiency of reaching the final consensus, which is significant in characterizing the self-organized systems. Interestingly, it is found that there exists an optimal value of α, leading to the shortest consensus time. This phenomenon indicates that, although a strong influence of high-degree individuals is helpful for quick consensus achievement, over strong influence inhibits the convergence process. Other quantities, such as the probability of an individual’s initial opinion becomes the final opinion as a function of degree, the evolution of the number of opinion clusters, as well as the relationship between average consensus time and the network size, are also studied. Our results are helpful for better understanding the role of degree heterogeneity of the individuals in the opinion dynamics.
