  • NTIRE 2022 Burst Super-Resolution Challenge
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 IEEE/CVF CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER VISION AND PATTERN RECOGNITION WORKSHOPS (CVPRW 2022). - : IEEE. - 9781665487399 - 9781665487405 ; , s. 1040-1060
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Burst super-resolution has received increased attention in recent years due to its applications in mobile photography. By merging information from multiple shifted images of a scene, burst super-resolution aims to recover details which otherwise cannot be obtained using a simple input image. This paper reviews the NTIRE 2022 challenge on burst super-resolution. In the challenge, the participants were tasked with generating a clean RGB image with 4x higher resolution, given a RAW noisy burst as input. That is, the methods need to perform joint denoising, demosaicking, and super-resolution. The challenge consisted of 2 tracks. Track 1 employed synthetic data, where pixel-accurate high-resolution ground truths are available. Track 2 on the other hand used real-world bursts captured from a handheld camera, along with approximately aligned reference images captured using a DSLR. 14 teams participated in the final testing phase. The top performing methods establish a new state-of-the-art on the burst super-resolution task.

  • Pharmacovigilance analysis of cardiac risks associated with Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Expert Opinion on Drug Safety. - : Ashley Mark Publishing Company. - 1474-0338 .- 1744-764X. ; 22:9, s. 857-869
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors (BTKIs) can be associated with several cardiac risks.RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: This study was conducted based on records from a large spontaneous reporting database, the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System, for cardiac events reported for several BTKI agents. Reporting odds ratio and information components based on statistical shrinkage transformation were utilized to measure disproportionality.RESULTS: The final number of records for BTKI-related cardiac events was 10 320. Death or life-threatening events occurred in 17.63% of all associated cardiac records. Significant reporting was captured between BTKI (total/specific) and cardiac events, with the strongest association for ibrutinib. A total of 47 positive signals were evacuated for ibrutinib, with atrial fibrillation being the most commonly reported one. Concomitantly, cardiac failure congestive, cardiac disorder, arrhythmia, pericardial effusion, and atrial flutter, were also noticed for relatively stronger signal and disproportionality. Atrial fibrillation was over-reported in the 3 groups (ibrutinib, acalabrutinib, zanubrutinib), and acalabrutinib had statistically significant lower reporting compared with ibrutinib.CONCLUSIONS: Receiving ibrutinib, acalabrutinib or zanubrutinib might increase the chance of cardiac complications, with ibrutinib posing the highest risk. The type of cardiotoxicity involved in ibrutinib was highly variable.

  • Tunable Ordered Nanostructured Phases by Co-assembly of Amphiphilic Polyoxometalates and Pluronic Block Copolymers
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Nano Letters. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1530-6984 .- 1530-6992. ; 23:5, s. 1645-1651
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The assembly of polyoxometalate (POM) metal–oxygen clusters into ordered nanostructures is attracting a growing interest for catalytic and sensing applications. However, assembly of ordered nanostructured POMs from solution can be impaired by aggregation, and the structural diversity is poorly understood. Here, we present a time-resolved small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) study of the co-assembly in aqueous solutions of amphiphilic organo-functionalized Wells-Dawson-type POMs with a Pluronic block copolymer over a wide concentration range in levitating droplets. SAXS analysis revealed the formation and subsequent transformation with increasing concentration of large vesicles, a lamellar phase, a mixture of two cubic phases that evolved into one dominating cubic phase, and eventually a hexagonal phase formed at concentrations above 110 mM. The structural versatility of co-assembled amphiphilic POMs and Pluronic block copolymers was supported by dissipative particle dynamics simulations and cryo-TEM.

  • Learn2Reg: comprehensive multi-task medical image registration challenge, dataset and evaluation in the era of deep learning
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 0278-0062 .- 1558-254X. ; 42:3, s. 697-712
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Image registration is a fundamental medical image analysis task, and a wide variety of approaches have been proposed. However, only a few studies have comprehensively compared medical image registration approaches on a wide range of clinically relevant tasks. This limits the development of registration methods, the adoption of research advances into practice, and a fair benchmark across competing approaches. The Learn2Reg challenge addresses these limitations by providing a multi-task medical image registration data set for comprehensive characterisation of deformable registration algorithms. A continuous evaluation will be possible at https:// learn2reg.grand-challenge.org. Learn2Reg covers a wide range of anatomies (brain, abdomen, and thorax), modalities (ultrasound, CT, MR), availability of annotations, as well as intra- and inter-patient registration evaluation. We established an easily accessible framework for training and validation of 3D registration methods, which enabled the compilation of results of over 65 individual method submissions from more than 20 unique teams. We used a complementary set of metrics, including robustness, accuracy, plausibility, and runtime, enabling unique insight into the current state-of-the-art of medical image registration. This paper describes datasets, tasks, evaluation methods and results of the challenge, as well as results of further analysis of transferability to new datasets, the importance of label supervision, and resulting bias. While no single approach worked best across all tasks, many methodological aspects could be identified that push the performance of medical image registration to new state-of-the-art performance. Furthermore, we demystified the common belief that conventional registration methods have to be much slower than deep-learning-based methods.

  • Electrochemical Zintl Cluster Bi22− induced chemically bonded bismuth / graphene oxide composite for sodium-ion batteries
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Electrochimica Acta. - : Elsevier BV. - 0013-4686 .- 1873-3859. ; 413
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Bismuth, a promising attribute for sodium-ion batteries, which have been attracting significant attention owing to their advantages of high volumetric capacity and suitable operating potential. However, most traditional Bi-based materials are suffered from pulverization and fracture of the electrodes caused by dramatic volume variation, consequently diminishing the cycle stability. Herein, in this work, bismuth embedded within graphene oxide matrices have been obtained by utilizing a novel and efficient electrochemical method. Through the strong reducing properties of Zintl clusters Bi22−, GO is partially reduced to generate reduced graphene oxide with better electrical conductivity. Simultaneously, Bi is strongly loaded on the GO through Bi-O-C bonding, which can form Bi2O22+ with excellent ionic conductivity. Moreover, the volume expansion of Bi during sodiation can be effectively buffered in the GO matrices. As a result, this Bi/GO composite exhibits excellent electrochemical performances in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), including a high specific capacity of 258 mAh g−1 at 10 A g−1 and an excellent cycle stability with high retained capacity of 315 mAh g−1 after 500 cycles at 2 A g−1. This work paves the way to prepare designated promising electrode materials for high-performance SIBs, and thoroughly understands mechanism of electrochemical methods for preparing materials.

  • Ingår i: Journal of Affective Disorders. - : Elsevier. - 0165-0327 .- 1573-2517. ; 351, s. 323-330
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Accumulated evidence has highlighted the association between atrial fibrillation and the risk of developing dementia.METHODS: This current cohort study utilized data from the UK Biobank to explore the association between atrial fibrillation (AF) and all-cause dementia (ACD), encompassing its main subtypes (Alzheimer's disease (AD), and vascular dementia (VD)). Cox proportional hazards models were applied to examine the association of AF and dementia with its primary subtypes after adjusting for different sets of covariates. Hazard ratios (HRs) with 95 % confidential intervals (CIs) were estimated to quantify the associated risks. Competing risk model was applied in sensitivity analysis.RESULTS: After exclusion, 373, 415 participants entered the primary analysis. Among these, 27, 934 (7.48 %) were with a history AF at baseline, while 345, 481 (92.52 %) were without. During a mean follow-up of 13.45 years, ACD was diagnosed in 1215 individuals with AF and 3988 individuals without AF. Participants with AF had higher risks of ACD (1.79 [1.67-1.91]), AD (1.48 [1.32-1.65]), and VD (2.46 [2.17-2.80]) in the fully adjusted Cox regression models. Results of subgroup and sensitivity analyses predominantly aligned with the positive associations in primary analysis.LIMITATIONS: The applicability of our findings to diverse ethnicities might require careful consideration and the behind biological mechanisms need to be further revealed.CONCLUSIONS: It indicated that people with atrial fibrillation had an increased future risk of all-cause dementia, Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia. Atrial fibrillation screening and prevention strategies should take into account to prevent and delay the onset of dementia.

  • Discovery of carbon-based strongest and hardest amorphous material
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: National Science Review. - : Oxford University Press. - 2095-5138 .- 2053-714X. ; 9:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Carbon is one of the most fascinating elements due to its structurally diverse allotropic forms stemming from its bonding varieties (sp, sp2, and sp3). Exploring new forms of carbon has always been the eternal theme of scientific research. Herein, we report the amorphous (AM) carbon materials with high fraction of sp3 bonding recovered from compression of fullerene C60 under high pressure and high temperature previously unexplored. Analysis of photoluminescence and absorption spectra demonstrates that they are semiconducting with a bandgap range of 1.5–2.2 eV, comparable to that of widely used amorphous silicon. Comprehensive mechanical tests demonstrate that the synthesized AM-III carbon is the hardest and strongest amorphous material known so far, which can scratch diamond crystal and approach its strength. The produced AM carbon materials combine outstanding mechanical and electronic properties, and may potentially be used in photovoltaic applications that require ultrahigh strength and wear resistance.

  • Narrow-gap, semiconducting, superhard amorphous carbon with high toughness, derived from C60 fullerene
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Cell Reports Physical Science. - : Elsevier. - 2666-3864. ; 2:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • New carbon forms that exhibit extraordinary physicochemical properties can be generated from nanostructured precursors under extreme pressure. Nevertheless, synthesis of such fascinating materials is often not well understood. That is the case of the C60 precursor, with irreproducible results that impede further progress in the materials design. Here, the semiconducting amorphous carbon, having band gaps of 0.1–0.3 eV and the advantages of isotropic superhardness and superior toughness over single-crystal diamond and inorganic glasses, is produced from fullerene at high pressure and moderate temperatures. A systematic investigation of the structure and bonding evolution is carried out with complementary characterization methods, which helps to build a model of the transformation that can be used in further high-pressure/high-temperature (high p,T) synthesis of novel nano-carbon systems for advanced applications. The amorphous carbon materials produced have the potential of accomplishing the demanding optoelectronic applications that diamond and graphene cannot achieve.
