  • Robust estimation of bacterial cell count from optical density
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Communications Biology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2399-3642. ; 3:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Optical density (OD) is widely used to estimate the density of cells in liquid culture, but cannot be compared between instruments without a standardized calibration protocol and is challenging to relate to actual cell count. We address this with an interlaboratory study comparing three simple, low-cost, and highly accessible OD calibration protocols across 244 laboratories, applied to eight strains of constitutive GFP-expressing E. coli. Based on our results, we recommend calibrating OD to estimated cell count using serial dilution of silica microspheres, which produces highly precise calibration (95.5% of residuals <1.2-fold), is easily assessed for quality control, also assesses instrument effective linear range, and can be combined with fluorescence calibration to obtain units of Molecules of Equivalent Fluorescein (MEFL) per cell, allowing direct comparison and data fusion with flow cytometry measurements: in our study, fluorescence per cell measurements showed only a 1.07-fold mean difference between plate reader and flow cytometry data.

  • The Seventh Visual Object Tracking VOT2019 Challenge Results
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: 2019 IEEE/CVF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER VISION WORKSHOPS (ICCVW). - : IEEE COMPUTER SOC. - 9781728150239 ; , s. 2206-2241
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2019 is the seventh annual tracker benchmarking activity organized by the VOT initiative. Results of 81 trackers are presented; many are state-of-the-art trackers published at major computer vision conferences or in journals in the recent years. The evaluation included the standard VOT and other popular methodologies for short-term tracking analysis as well as the standard VOT methodology for long-term tracking analysis. The VOT2019 challenge was composed of five challenges focusing on different tracking domains: (i) VOT-ST2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB, (ii) VOT-RT2019 challenge focused on "real-time" short-term tracking in RGB, (iii) VOT-LT2019 focused on long-term tracking namely coping with target disappearance and reappearance. Two new challenges have been introduced: (iv) VOT-RGBT2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB and thermal imagery and (v) VOT-RGBD2019 challenge focused on long-term tracking in RGB and depth imagery. The VOT-ST2019, VOT-RT2019 and VOT-LT2019 datasets were refreshed while new datasets were introduced for VOT-RGBT2019 and VOT-RGBD2019. The VOT toolkit has been updated to support both standard short-term, long-term tracking and tracking with multi-channel imagery. Performance of the tested trackers typically by far exceeds standard baselines. The source code for most of the trackers is publicly available from the VOT page. The dataset, the evaluation kit and the results are publicly available at the challenge website(1).

  • NTIRE 2022 Burst Super-Resolution Challenge
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 IEEE/CVF CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER VISION AND PATTERN RECOGNITION WORKSHOPS (CVPRW 2022). - : IEEE. - 9781665487399 - 9781665487405 ; , s. 1040-1060
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Burst super-resolution has received increased attention in recent years due to its applications in mobile photography. By merging information from multiple shifted images of a scene, burst super-resolution aims to recover details which otherwise cannot be obtained using a simple input image. This paper reviews the NTIRE 2022 challenge on burst super-resolution. In the challenge, the participants were tasked with generating a clean RGB image with 4x higher resolution, given a RAW noisy burst as input. That is, the methods need to perform joint denoising, demosaicking, and super-resolution. The challenge consisted of 2 tracks. Track 1 employed synthetic data, where pixel-accurate high-resolution ground truths are available. Track 2 on the other hand used real-world bursts captured from a handheld camera, along with approximately aligned reference images captured using a DSLR. 14 teams participated in the final testing phase. The top performing methods establish a new state-of-the-art on the burst super-resolution task.

  • Quantitative estimation of the contribution of dustsources to Chinese loess using detrital zircon U-Pbage patterns
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Geophysical Research - Earth Surface. - 2169-9003 .- 2169-9011. ; 121:11, s. 2085-2099
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The origin and provenance of the loess deposits of the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) are stilldebated. In order to pinpoint the dust sources, surface samples from the piedmont of the NortheasternTibetan Plateau, the Gobi Altai Mountains, and modern eolian dunes from the Tengger desert and Mu Ussand field were analyzed by using the detrital zircon dating technique. In order to quantitatively discriminatethe content of different potential sources, zircon grains of different ages were grouped according to theirtectonic origin. Zircon grains aged from 1300 to 550 Ma were assigned to the Northeastern Tibetan Plateau, and grains aged from 550 to 0 Ma to the Northeastern Tibetan Plateau or the Gobi Altai Mountains, or to acombination of the two. Zircon ages of around 2.8 Ga to 1.3 Ga may be a mixture of sources from theNortheastern Tibetan Plateau, Gobi Altai Mountains, or North China Craton. Sediments from the Tenggerdesert and Mu Us sand field consist of a mixture of the three sources and exhibit a high degree of spatialvariability in terms of their source. In the northern part of the two deserts, 43–83% of the sediments arederived from the Gobi Altai Mountains, while in the south, material from the Northeastern Tibetan Plateaucomprises 51–98% of the sediments. Loess deposits from the CLP also comprise a mixture of the threedifferent sources, with material from the Northeastern Tibetan Plateau making the dominant contribution(65–100%), with material from the North China Craton and the Gobi Altai Mountains comprising 0–35% and0–40% of the loess deposits, respectively. The contributions from the three sources to the loess deposits onCLP vary spatially. Application of the novel statistical method of provenance group analysis demonstratesthat the loess deposits comprise a mixture of material from a broad region of northern China and that theNortheastern Tibetan Plateau material makes the dominant contribution.

  • Extending on-chip interconnects for rack-level remote resource access
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 34th IEEE International Conference on Computer Design, ICCD 2016. - 1063-6404. - 9781509051427 ; , s. 56-63
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The need to perform data analytics on exploding data volumes coupled with the rapidly changing workloads in cloud computing places great pressure on data-center servers. To improve hardware resource utilization across servers within a rack, we propose Direct Extension of On-chip Interconnects (DEOI), a high-performance and efficient architecture for remote resource access among server nodes. DEOI extends an SoC server node's on-chip interconnect to access resources in adjacent nodes with no protocol changes, allowing remote memory and network resources to be used as if they were local. Our results on a four-node FPGA prototype show that the latency of user-level, cross-node, random reads to DEOI-connected remote memory is as low as 1.16?s, which beats current commercial technologies. We exploit DEOI remote access to improve performance of the Redis in-memory key-value framework by 47%. When using DEOI to access remote network resources, we observe an 8.4% average performance degradation and only a 2.52?s ping-pong latency disparity compared to using local assets. These results suggest that DEOI can be a promising mechanism for increasing both performance and efficiency in next-generation data-center servers.

  • Efficient Parallel Polynomial-Based Compensation Structure for Frequency Response Mismatch in Two-Channel TI-ADCs
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems - II - Express Briefs. - : IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC. - 1549-7747 .- 1558-3791. ; 71:2, s. 992-996
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This brief introduces a compensation structure for frequency response mismatch (FRM) errors in two-channel time-interleaved analog-to-digital converters (TI-ADCs) based on polynomial models of the channel frequency responses. It can be used for any Nyquist band and it comprises parallel error approximation branches (EABs), each branch consisting of a fixed differentiator of unique degree cascaded with a variable multiplier and a simple modulator. It suffices to alter the variable multipliers when the channels change, thereby avoiding online filter design. In addition, it achieves a lower latency and a significantly lower computational complexity compared to cascaded polynomial-based structures. Numerical simulations and comparisons are included, validating the efficacy of the proposed structure.

  • Structural stability and aqueous durability of Cs incorporation into BaAl2Ti6O16 hollandite
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Nuclear Materials. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-3115 .- 1873-4820. ; 565, s. 153716-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hollandite ceramics are well-recognized as a promising host for immobilizing radioactive cesium. In the present paper, the [BaxCsy][(Al3+,Ti3+)(2x +y)Ti-8-2x-y(4+)]O-16 (0.4 <= x, y <= 0.8) ceramics were fabricated to in-vestigate the effect of incorporated Cs on structural stability and durability of (Ba,Cs)(Al,Ti)(8)O-16 ceramics with Cs-incorporated. It was found that the sintered samples at 1250 degrees C show a pure hollandite phase with tetragonal structure (I4/m) and high Cs retention. Moreover, the synthesized (Ba,Cs)(Al,Ti)(8)O-16 ceramics exhibit an excellent aqueous stability and the normalized Cs release rate is 2.82 (+/- 0.27) x10(-3) g m(-2) d(-1) after 28 days. All these results reveal that (Ba,Cs)(Al,Ti)(8)O-16 is a promising candidate as a Cs-waste form.

  • Characterization of Ni(Si,Ge) films on epitaxial SiGe(100) formed by microwave annealing
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 101:9, s. 092101-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Microwave annealing (MWA) is investigated as an alternative technique to rapid thermal processing with halogen lamp heating (RTP) for low-temperature silicide formation on epitaxially grown Si0.81Ge0.19 layers. Phase formation, resistivity mapping, morphology analysis, and composition evaluation indicate that the formation of low-resistivity NiSi1-xGex by means of MWA occurs at temperatures about 100 degrees C lower than by RTP. Under similar annealing conditions, more severe strain relaxation and defect generation are therefore found in the remaining Si0.81Ge0.19 layers treated by MWA. Although silicidation by microwave heating is in essence also due to thermal effects, details in heating mechanisms differ from RTP.
