  • High Performance and Stable All-Inorganic Metal Halide Perovskite-Based Photodetectors for Optical Communication Applications
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Advanced Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 0935-9648 .- 1521-4095. ; 30:38
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Photodetectors are critical parts of an optical communication system for achieving efficient photoelectronic conversion of signals, and the response speed directly determines the bandwidth of the whole system. Metal halide perovskites, an emerging class of low-cost solution-processed semiconductors, exhibiting strong optical absorption, low trap states, and high carrier mobility, are widely investigated in photodetection applications. Herein, through optimizing the device engineering and film quality, high-performance photodetectors based on all-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite (CsPbIxBr3-x), which simultaneously possess high sensitivity and fast response, are demonstrated. The optimized devices processed from CsPbIBr2 perovskite show a practically measured detectable limit of about 21.5 pW cm(-2) and a fast response time of 20 ns, which are both among the highest reported device performance of perovskite-based photodetectors. Moreover, the photodetectors exhibit outstanding long-term environmental stability, with negligible degradation of the photoresponse property after 2000 h under ambient conditions. In addition, the resulting perovskite photodetector is successfully integrated into an optical communication system and its applications as an optical signal receiver on transmitting text and audio signals is demonstrated. The results suggest that all-inorganic metal halide perovskite-based photodetectors have great application potential for optical communication.

  • Electronic phase engineering induced thermoelectric enhancement in manganites
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : AMER INST PHYSICS. - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 124:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The nano-structuring engineering and the introduction of magnetic scattering are effective ways to enhance the thermoelectric performance. In this work, we use the magnetic treatments on La0.4Pr0.225Ca0.375MnO3 to demonstrate that the electronic phase engineering can enhance the thermoelectric performance by simultaneously reducing the thermal conductivity and raising the power factor in a strongly correlated electron system. This study indicates that the magnetic treatment changes the phase separation state and impedes the growth of ferromagnetic metal (FMM) phase. The reduction of FMM phase suppresses the bipolar effect, which raises the Seebeck coefficient and the power factor, reduces the thermal conductivity, and therefore enhances the thermoelectric performance.

  • Long Electron-Hole Diffusion Length in High-Quality Lead-Free Double Perovskite Films
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Advanced Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 0935-9648 .- 1521-4095. ; 30:20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Developing environmentally friendly perovskites has become important in solving the toxicity issue of lead-based perovskite solar cells. Here, the first double perovskite (Cs2AgBiBr6) solar cells using the planar structure are demonstrated. The prepared Cs2AgBiBr6 films are composed of high-crystal-quality grains with diameters equal to the film thickness, thus minimizing the grain boundary length and the carrier recombination. These high-quality double perovskite films show long electron-hole diffusion lengths greater than 100 nm, enabling the fabrication of planar structure double perovskite solar cells. The resulting solar cells based on planar TiO2 exhibit an average power conversion efficiency over 1%. This work represents an important step forward toward the realization of environmentally friendly solar cells and also has important implications for the applications of double perovskites in other optoelectronic devices.

  • Aligned and Graded Type-II Ruddlesden-Popper Perovskite Films for Efficient Solar Cells
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Advanced Energy Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 1614-6832 .- 1614-6840. ; 8:21
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recently, Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites (RPPs) have attracted increasing interests due to their promising stability. However, the efficiency of solar cells based on RPPs is much lower than that based on 3D perovskites, mainly attributed to their poor charge transport. Herein, a simple yet universal method for controlling the quality of RPP films by a synergistic effect of two additives in the precursor solution is presented. RPP films achieved by this method show (a) high quality with uniform morphology, enhanced crystallinity, and reduced density of sub-bandgap states, (b) vertically oriented perovskite frameworks that facilitate efficient charge transport, and (c) type-II band alignment that favors self-driven charge separation. Consequently, a hysteresis-free RPP solar cell with a power conversion efficiency exceeding 12%, which is much higher than that of the control device (1.5%), is achieved. The findings will spur new developments in the fabrication of high-quality, aligned, and graded RPP films essential for realizing efficient and stable perovskite solar cells.

  • Efficient perovskite light-emitting diodes based on a solution-processed tin dioxide electron transport layer
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Chemistry C. - : ROYAL SOC CHEMISTRY. - 2050-7526 .- 2050-7534. ; 6:26, s. 6996-7002
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To achieve high-performance perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs), an appropriate functional layer beneath the perovskite emissive layer is significantly important to modulate the morphology of the perovskite film and to facilitate charge injection and transport in the device. Herein, for the first time, we report efficient n-i-p structured PeLEDs using solution-processed SnO2 as an electron transport layer. Three-dimensional perovskites, such as CH(NH2)(2)PbI3 and CH3NH3PbI3, are found to be more chemically compatible with SnO2 than with commonly used ZnO. In addition, SnO2 shows good transparency, excellent morphology and suitable energy levels. These properties make SnO2 a promising candidate in both three-and low-dimensional PeLEDs, among which a high external quantum efficiency of 7.9% has been realized. Furthermore, interfacial materials that are widely used to improve the device performances of ZnO-based PeLEDs are also applied on SnO2-based PeLEDs and their effects have been systematically studied. In contrast to ZnO, SnO2 modified by these interfacial materials shows detrimental effects due to photoluminescence quenching.

  • Rational molecular passivation for high-performance perovskite light-emitting diodes
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nature Photonics. - : Springer Nature Publishing AG. - 1749-4885 .- 1749-4893. ; 13:6, s. 418-424
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A major efficiency limit for solution-processed perovskite optoelectronic devices, for example light-emitting diodes, is trap-mediated non-radiative losses. Defect passivation using organic molecules has been identified as an attractive approach to tackle this issue. However, implementation of this approach has been hindered by a lack of deep understanding of how the molecular structures influence the effectiveness of passivation. We show that the so far largely ignored hydrogen bonds play a critical role in affecting the passivation. By weakening the hydrogen bonding between the passivating functional moieties and the organic cation featuring in the perovskite, we significantly enhance the interaction with defect sites and minimize non-radiative recombination losses. Consequently, we achieve exceptionally high-performance near-infrared perovskite light-emitting diodes with a record external quantum efficiency of 21.6%. In addition, our passivated perovskite light-emitting diodes maintain a high external quantum efficiency of 20.1% and a wall-plug efficiency of 11.0% at a high current density of 200 mA cm−2, making them more attractive than the most efficient organic and quantum-dot light-emitting diodes at high excitations.

  • Reversible Ionic Polarization in Metal Halide Perovskites
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: The Journal of Physical Chemistry C. - : AMER CHEMICAL SOC. - 1932-7447 .- 1932-7455. ; 125:1, s. 283-289
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Metal halide perovskites have emerged as promising photovoltaic materials with attractive photoelectronic properties. However, the fundamental mechanisms for their outstanding properties are still elusive. In this work, we reveal the reversible bulk ionic polarization property of perovskites through studying the photoelectric response on the controllable states by electrical poling from room temperature to low temperature (200 K). The overall increase in light absorption, photoconductance, and carrier recombination lifetime demonstrates that the bulk ionic polarization contributes to the excellent photoelectric properties of halide perovskites. Moreover, we also discuss the role of ionic polarization in the overshoot transient photocurrent relaxation phenomenon after the electrical poling. This work would promote deep understanding in the unique properties of perovskites and their excellent photovoltaic performance.

  • Stable, High-Sensitivity and Fast-Response Photodetectors Based on Lead-Free Cs2AgBiBr6 Double Perovskite Films
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Advanced Optical Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 2162-7568 .- 2195-1071. ; 7:13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Solution-processed metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have demonstrated great advances on achieving high-performance photodetectors. However, the intrinsic material instability and the toxicity of lead still hinder the practical applications of MHPs-based photodetectors. In this work, the first highly sensitive and fast-response lead-free perovskite photodetectors based on Cs2AgBiBr6 double perovskite films are demonstrated. A convenient solution method is developed to deposit high-quality Cs2AgBiBr6 film with large grain sizes, low trap densities, and long charge carrier lifetimes. Incorporated within a photodiode device architecture comprised of optimized hole- and electron-transporting layers, lead-free perovskite photodetectors are achieved exhibiting a high detectivity of 3.29 x 10(12) Jones, a large linear dynamic range of 193 dB, and a fast response time of approximate to 17 ns. All the key figures of merit of the devices are comparable with the reported best-performing photodetectors based on lead halide perovskites. In addition, the resulting devices exhibit excellent thermal and environmental stability. The nonencapsulated devices show negligible degradation after thermal stressing at 150 degrees C and less than 5% degradation in the photoresponsivity after storage in ambient air for approximate to 2300 h. The results demonstrate the great potential of the lead-free Cs2AgBiBr6 double perovskite in applications for environmentally friendly and high-performance photodetectors.

  • Projected Emergence Seasons of Year-Maximum Near-Surface Wind Speed
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Geophysical Research Letters. - 0094-8276 .- 1944-8007. ; 51:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Global warming is expected to have far-reaching impacts on the frequency and intensity of extreme events, but the effects of anthropogenic warming on the emergence seasons of year-maximum near-surface wind speed (NSWS) remain poorly understood. We provide a comprehensive map of the changing emergence seasons of year-maximum NSWS using Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 projections. Our analysis reveals a rapid response of synoptic-scale extreme NSWS to global warming, with consistent spatial patterns observed across various periods and warming scenarios. The most significant increase (∼16%) in the emergence season is projected to occur in December-January-February (DJF) over Mid-high-latitude Asia by the end of the 21st century. The study also anticipates changes in the emergence seasons of year-maximum NSWS at a regional scale. These results deepen our understanding of the complex and interconnected nature of global climate change and underscore the need for concerted efforts in addressing this pressing challenge.
