  • Two-dimensional gas-phase temperature measurements using phosphor thermometry
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics B. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0946-2171 .- 1432-0649. ; 88:2, s. 291-296
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new technique based on phosphor thermometry for measurements of two-dimensional gas-phase temperature, was examined as a new laser diagnostic. Calibration of Dy:YAG phosphor was carried out on the surface of a solid. The data were applicable for gas thermometry since the validation of the line intensity ratios method, showed good agreement with both the lifetime method and thermocouple data in a steady gas flow. Single-shot phosphor thermometry was examined in turbulent combustion in an engine. A reasonable temperature deviation and agreement with calculated data to within 5% precision was achieved in the ignition process of a compression ignition engine. Influencing factors such as chemical luminescence and intrusion into the combustion have also been discussed.

  • Shot genre classification using compressed audio-visual features
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Proceedings / 2003 International Conference on Image Processing : September 14 - 17, 2003, Barcelona, Spain. - : IEEE Communications Society. ; , s. 17-20
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper proposes shot genre classification from MPEG compressed movies, as one of the high-level indexing methods for audio-visual contents. Through statistical analysis of low-level and mid-level audio-visual features on compressed domain, the proposed method can achieve subjectively accurate shot classification within the movies into predefined genre set, which can be applied to various content handling applications, such as summarization, navigation, editing, filtering, and so on. By feeding subjectively evaluated feature set for each shot genre into the Linear Machine Decision Tree classifier, each shot is classified at very low cost. The experimental results show that most of the shots in the movies can be classified into subjectively accurate genres, and also the dominant shot genre can correctly resolve each movie genre.

  • A molecular dynamics simulation investigation of fuel droplet in evolving ambient conditions
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Combustion and Flame. - : Elsevier BV. - 0010-2180 .- 1556-2921. ; 161:2, s. 541-550
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Molecular dynamics simulations are applied to model fuel droplet surrounded by air in a spatially and temporally evolving environment. A numerical procedure is developed to include chemical reactions into molecular dynamics. The model reaction is chosen to allow investigation of the position of chemical reactions (gas phase, surface, liquid phase) and the behavior of typical products (alcohols and aldehydes). A liquid droplet at molecular scale is seen as a network of fuel molecules interacting with oxygen, nitrogen, and products of chemical fuel breakdown. A molecule is evaporating when it loosens from the network and diffuses into the air. Naturally, fuel molecules from the gas phase, oxygen and nitrogen molecules can also be adsorbed in the reverse process into the liquid phase. Thus, in the presented simulations the time and length scales of transport processes - oxygen adsorption, diffusion, and fuel evaporation are directly determined by molecular level processes and not by model constants. In addition, using ab initio calculations it is proven that the reaction barriers in liquid and gas phases are similar. (C) 2013 The Combustion Institute. Published by Elsevier Inc.
