    • Burst super-resolution has received increased attention in recent years due to its applications in mobile photography. By merging information from multiple shifted images of a scene, burst super-resolution aims to recover details which otherwise cannot be obtained using a simple input image. This paper reviews the NTIRE 2022 challenge on burst super-resolution. In the challenge, the participants were tasked with generating a clean RGB image with 4x higher resolution, given a RAW noisy burst as input. That is, the methods need to perform joint denoising, demosaicking, and super-resolution. The challenge consisted of 2 tracks. Track 1 employed synthetic data, where pixel-accurate high-resolution ground truths are available. Track 2 on the other hand used real-world bursts captured from a handheld camera, along with approximately aligned reference images captured using a DSLR. 14 teams participated in the final testing phase. The top performing methods establish a new state-of-the-art on the burst super-resolution task.

  • Physical and mental health impact of COVID-19 on children, adolescents, and their families :

    • Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has altered daily routines and family functioning, led to closing schools, and dramatically limited social interactions worldwide. Measuring its impact on mental health of vulnerable children and adolescents is crucial. Methods: The Collaborative Outcomes study on Health and Functioning during Infection Times (COH-FIT - www. coh-fit.com) is an on-line anonymous survey, available in 30 languages, involving >230 investigators from 49 countries supported by national/international professional associations. COH-FIT has thee waves (until the pandemic is declared over by the WHO, and 6-18 months plus 24-36 months after its end). In addition to adults, COH-FIT also includes adolescents (age 14-17 years), and children (age 6-13 years), recruited via nonprobability/snowball and representative sampling and assessed via self-rating and parental rating. Nonmodifiable/modifiable risk factors/treatment targets to inform prevention/intervention programs to promote health and prevent mental and physical illness in children and adolescents will be generated by COH-FIT. Co primary outcomes are changes in well-being (WHO-5) and a composite psychopathology P-Score. Multiple behavioral, family, coping strategy and service utilization factors are also assessed, including functioning and quality of life. Results: Up to June 2021, over 13,000 children and adolescents from 59 countries have participated in the COHFIT project, with representative samples from eleven countries. Limitations: Cross-sectional and anonymous design. Conclusions: Evidence generated by COH-FIT will provide an international estimate of the COVID-19 effect on childrens, adolescents and families, mental and physical health, well-being, functioning and quality of life, informing the formulation of present and future evidence-based interventions and policies to minimize adverse effects of the present and future pandemics on youth.

    • Background: . High-quality comprehensive data on short-/long-term physical/mental health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are needed. Methods: . The Collaborative Outcomes study on Health and Functioning during Infection Times (COH-FIT) is an international, multi-language (n=30) project involving >230 investigators from 49 countries/territories/regions, endorsed by national/international professional associations. COH-FIT is a multi-wave, on-line anonymous, cross-sectional survey [wave 1: 04/2020 until the end of the pandemic, 12 months waves 2/3 starting 6/24 months threreafter] for adults, adolescents (14-17), and children (6-13), utilizing non-probability/snowball and representative sampling. COH-FIT aims to identify non-modifiable/modifiable risk factors/treatment targets to inform prevention/intervention programs to improve social/health outcomes in the general population/vulnerable subgrous during/after COVID-19. In adults, co-primary outcomes are change from pre-COVID-19 to intra-COVID-19 in well-being (WHO-5) and a composite psychopathology P-Score. Key secondary outcomes are a P-extended score, global mental and physical health. Secondary outcomes include health-service utilization/ functioning, treatment adherence, functioning, symptoms/behaviors/emotions, substance use, violence, among others. Results: . Starting 04/26/2020, up to 14/07/2021 >151,000 people from 155 countries/territories/regions and six continents have participated. Representative samples of >= 1,000 adults have been collected in 15 countries. Overall, 43.0% had prior physical disorders, 16.3% had prior mental disorders, 26.5% were health care workers, 8.2% were aged >= 65 years, 19.3% were exposed to someone infected with COVID-19, 76.1% had been in quarantine, and 2.1% had been COVID 19-positive. Limitations: . Cross-sectional survey, preponderance of non-representative participants. Conclusions: . Results from COH-FIT will comprehensively quantify the impact of COVID-19, seeking to identify high-risk groups in need for acute and long-term intervention, and inform evidence-based health policies/strategies during this/future pandemics.

    • Background: The Collaborative Outcome study on Health and Functioning during Infection Times (COH-FIT; www.coh-fit.com) is an anonymous and global online survey measuring health and functioning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study was to test concurrently the validity of COH-FIT items and the in-ternal validity of the co-primary outcome, a composite psychopathology "P-score". Methods: The COH-FIT survey has been translated into 30 languages (two blind forward-translations, consensus, one independent English back-translation, final harmonization). To measure mental health, 1-4 items ("COH-FIT items") were extracted from validated questionnaires (e.g. Patient Health Questionnaire 9). COH-FIT items measured anxiety, depressive, post-traumatic, obsessive-compulsive, bipolar and psychotic symptoms, as well as stress, sleep and concentration. COH-FIT Items which correlated r >= 0.5 with validated companion question-naires, were initially retained. A P-score factor structure was then identified from these items using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) on data split into training and validation sets. Consistency of results across languages, gender and age was assessed. Results: From >150,000 adult responses by May 6th, 2022, a subset of 22,456 completed both COH-FIT items and validated questionnaires. Concurrent validity was consistently demonstrated across different languages for COH-FIT items. CFA confirmed EFA results of five first-order factors (anxiety, depression, post-traumatic, psychotic, psychophysiologic symptoms) and revealed a single second-order factor P-score, with high internal reliability (omega = 0.95). Factor structure was consistent across age and sex. Conclusions: COH-FIT is a valid instrument to globally measure mental health during infection times. The P-score is a valid measure of multidimensional mental health.

    • Channel State Information (CSI)-based Physical Layer Authentication (PLA) is typically a promising strategy for wireless security. However, existing algorithms fail to transfer across various scenarios and immunize against attacks forging CSI. To improve the transferability and immunity of PLA, we propose a PLA enhancement framework to analyze, enhance, and assess authentication. Firstly, we provide a theoretical analysis method to discover the factors affecting the transferability and immunity of PLA. Secondly, inspired by the above discovery, an enhanced PLA algorithm is developed based on the channel time-varying pattern. Finally, we theoretically assess the scenario transferability and provide a closed-form expression for the bypassing condition of authentication. Furthermore, experimental results validate the practical applicability of our theoretical insights.

    • The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoTs) plays an important role in various industrial applications, which require multiple time-critical networks to be deployed in the same region. The limited communication resources inevitably incur network coexistence problems. For scenarios where coexisting networks cannot coordinate effectively, the centralized or partial-information-based decentralized resource allocation methods cannot be implemented. To address this concern, we propose a Cooperation-Free Reinforcement Learning (CF-RL) algorithm for the fully distributed resource allocation problem in coexisting IIoT systems. Each network adopts the proposed algorithm to minimize collisions through a trial-And-error approach without any information interaction. To resist the influence of environmental dynamics, each coexisting network learns the state transition probability of the resource block instead of the resource block's position. Moreover, to potentially ensure the overall system performance, each network additionally considers the period offset in the initialization phase and action selection phase, so that the coexisting networks have different preferences for different state transitions. We conduct extensive simulations to verify the convergence performance. Evaluation results show that the CF-RL algorithm almost achieves (more than 99.88%) the effect of centralized resource allocation and has obvious superiorities over other cooperation-free algorithms in terms of the convergence rate, the number of collisions, and the resource utilization ratio.

    • Cancer is a highly heterogeneous disease caused by dysregulation in different cell types and tissues. However, different cancers may share common mechanisms. It is critical to identify decisive genes involved in the development and progression of cancer, and joint analysis of multiple cancers may help to discover overlapping mechanisms among different cancers. In this study, we proposed a fusion feature selection framework attributed to ensemble method named Fisher score and Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (FS-GBDT) to select robust and decisive feature genes in high-dimensional gene expression datasets. Joint analysis of 11 human cancers types was conducted to explore the key feature genes subset of cancer. To verify the efficacy of FS-GBDT, we compared it with four other common feature selection algorithms by Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier. The algorithm achieved highest indicators, outperforms other four methods. In addition, we performed gene ontology analysis and literature validation of the key gene subset, and this subset were classified into several functional modules. Functional modules can be used as markers of disease to replace single gene which is difficult to be found repeatedly in applications of gene chip, and to study the core mechanisms of cancer.

  • Strain dependence of deformation and recrystallization microstructure homogeneity in clock-rolled tantalum sheets

    • Microstructure and crystallographic texture are the key factors that determine the sputtering target properties. Clock rolling plays an important role in improving the microstructure homogeneity, but the effect of strain during rolling on deformation and recrystallization behavior is not clear. Thus, high-purity tantalum (Ta) plates were 135° clock rolled to 70% and 87% reduction and then annealed at various temperatures to observe the microstructure evolution. Texture and microstructure in the center layer of the rolled and annealed Ta sheets were characterized via optical microscope (OM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron backscatter diffracting (EBSD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results displayed that significant microstructure difference existed between 70% and 87% sample. Grain average misorientation value of {111} grains {〈111〉//normal direction (ND)} in the 70% sample was considerably higher than that in the 87% sample, suggesting a more heterogeneous grain fragmentation. Schmid factor (SFrolling) and Taylor model analysis of {111} grains in the 70% sample demonstrated that the slip was easier, and the system with higher SFrolling could alone accommodate the majority of plastic strain, contributing to the formation of micoshear bands. Upon annealing, the sample rolled 70% recrystallized more quickly, owing to strong {111} deformed texture, and severe microstructure subdivision and great stored energy within {111} grains. The {111} texture is very strong and grain size distribution was not uniform after the completion of recrystallization. However, after annealing of sample rolled 87%, smaller average grain size and variation, and relatively homogeneous texture distribution can be obtained.
