  • APPLICABILITY OF COMPUTATIONAL CELL MODEL FOR NONLINEAR FRACTURE MECHANICS
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: SMiRT 18.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In the present report, the applicability of the cell model technique for austenitic stainless steel weld has been investigated. The investigation consists of two parts, an experimental part and a numerical evaluation part. It was found out that the cell model technique accurately captures the fracture process for the standard CT and large size CT specimens. After the verification, the cell model technique has been applied to predicate the fracture toughness of irradiated (about 0.7 dpa) stainless steel weld. It is shown that the technique can be applied to these materials and thus be of great help in safety analysis of irradiated components in a nuclear power plant.

  • An analytic model for thermoelastic properties of composite laminates containing transverse matrix cracks
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Solids and Structures. - 0020-7683 .- 1879-2146. ; 30:23, s. 3211-3231
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An analytical model for the prediction of the thermoelastic properties of composite laminates containing matrix cracks is presented. In particular, transverse matrix cracks with their crack surfaces parallel to the fibre direction and perpendicular to the laminate plane are treated. Two- and three-dimensional laminates of arbitrary layup configurations are covered by the model. The presented expressions for stiffnesses, thermal expansion coefficients, strain contributions from release of residual stresses and local average ply stresses and strains do solely contain known ply property data and matrix crack densities. The key to the model is the judicious use of a known analytical solution for a row of cracks in an infinite isotropic medium. The model has been verified against numerically determined stiffnesses, thermal expansion coefficients and local average ply stresses for matrix cracked angle-ply and cross-ply laminates. Comparisons to experimental data for cross-ply laminates are also presented. It is shown that the present model to a very good accuracy can predict thermoelastic properties of matrix cracked composite laminates at varying matrix crack densities and layup configurations.

  • A Boundary Integral Method For Internal Piece-Wise Smooth Crack Problems
  • 1988
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Fracture. - 0376-9429 .- 1573-2673. ; 38:4, s. 275-294
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new boundary integral method for plane elasticity problems with internal piece-wise smooth cracksis presented. The method can be applied to both infinite and finite geometries. A numerical technique which combines a collocation method for the cracks and the standard BEM technique for the outer boundary is used to solve the integral equations. Numerical examples are presented and compared either to existing solutions or to FEM calculations. All of the results provided by the present method are shown to be very accurate for both smooth and kinked cracks in both finite and infinite geometries.

  • An Integral-Equation Method For Piece-Wise Smooth Cracks In An Elastic Half-Plane.
  • 1989
  • Ingår i: Engineering Fracture Mechanics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0013-7944 .- 1873-7315. ; 32:6, s. 889-897
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A boundary integral equation method for piece-wise smooth cracks in an elastic half-plane is presented. Both internal and surface cracks have been considered. The numerical formulation is based on an element description of the unknown dislocation densities along the crack line. Crack line kinks are treated by an introduction of double nodes at each kink. Numerical test examples are presented and compared, either to existing solutions, or to own finite element calculations. Excellent agreements were obtained for all cases.
