  • Understanding energetic disorder in electron-deficient-core-based non-fullerene solar cells
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Science in China Series B. - : SCIENCE PRESS. - 1674-7291 .- 1869-1870. ; 63:8, s. 1159-1168
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recent advances in material design for organic solar cells (OSCs) are primarily focused on developing near-infrared non-fullerene acceptors, typically A-DA D-A type acceptors (where A abbreviates an electron-withdrawing moiety and D, an electron-donor moiety), to achieve high external quantum efficiency while maintaining low voltage loss. However, the charge transport is still constrained by unfavorable molecular conformations, resulting in high energetic disorder and limiting the device performance. Here, a facile design strategy is reported by introducing the "wing" (alkyl chains) at the terminal of the DA D central core of the A-DA D-A type acceptor to achieve a favorable and ordered molecular orientation and therefore facilitate charge carrier transport. Benefitting from the reduced disorder, the electron mobilities could be significantly enhanced for the "wing"-containing molecules. By carefully changing the length of alkyl chains, the mobility of acceptor has been tuned to match with that of donor, leading to a minimized charge imbalance factor and a high fill factor (FF). We further provide useful design strategies for highly efficient OSCs with high FF.

  • Optical simulation and preparation of novel Mo/ZrSiN/ZrSiON/SiO2 solar selective absorbing coating
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells. - : Elsevier BV. - 0927-0248 .- 1879-3398. ; 167, s. 178-183
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel Mo/ZrSiN/ZrSiON/SiO2 solar selective absorbing coating has been investigated, which was prepared by magnetron sputtering on stainless steel substrate. A high solar absorptance of 0.94 and a low thermal emittance of 0.06 at 25 degrees C were achieved. By proportionally decreasing the thicknesses of the ZrSiN, ZrSiON and SiO2 layers, the thermal emittance at 500 degrees C was decreased significantly from 0.19 to 0.12 (Delta epsilon = 0.07) while keeping the solar absorptance unchanged. The coating also showed high thermal stability at 500 degrees C in vacuum, implying that it is a promising candidate for high temperature concentrated solar power (CSP) applications.

  • Methylglyoxal-hydroimidazolones (MG-Hs) instead of N epsilon-(carboxymethyl)-L-lysine (CML) is the major advanced glycation end-product during drying process in black tea
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Food Chemistry. - : Elsevier. - 0308-8146 .- 1873-7072. ; 333
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study was to examine the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) in black tea during drying process at 90, 120, and 150 degrees C for 1 h. Nine AGEs including N epsilon-(carboxyethyl)-L-lysine (CEL), N epsilon-(carboxymethyl)-L-lysine (CML), three isomers of methylglyoxal-hydroimidazolones (MG-Hs), three isomers of glyoxal-hydroimidazolones (GO-Hs), and argpyrimidine were quantified by using HPLC-MS/MS with isotope-labelled internal standard. Results showed that each AGE during the drying process of 150 degrees C was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than at 90 and 120 degrees C, and argpyrimidine was only found in the treatment of 150 degrees C. MG-H1/3 was first quantified as the major AGE during drying at 120- 150 degrees C, the content respectively reached to (39.66 +/- 2.61) mu g/g and (58.88 +/- 1.76) mu g/g after 1 h drying, where CML content only had (19.86 +/- 1.02) mu g/g and (23.71 +/- 1.40) mu g/g. This study indicated that arginine derived-AGEs are the key components of black tea AGEs.

  • Tumor Suppressor Par-4 Regulates Complement Factor C3 and Obesity
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Oncology. - : Frontiers Media SA. - 2234-943X. ; 12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Prostate apoptosis response-4 (Par-4) is a tumor suppressor that induces apoptosis in cancer cells. However, the physiological function of Par-4 remains unknown. Here we show that conventional Par-4 knockout (Par-4-/-) mice and adipocyte-specific Par-4 knockout (AKO) mice, but not hepatocyte-specific Par-4 knockout mice, are obese with standard chow diet. Par-4-/- and AKO mice exhibit increased absorption and storage of fat in adipocytes. Mechanistically, Par-4 loss is associated with mdm2 downregulation and activation of p53. We identified complement factor c3 as a p53-regulated gene linked to fat storage in adipocytes. Par-4 re-expression in adipocytes or c3 deletion reversed the obese mouse phenotype. Moreover, obese human subjects showed lower expression of Par-4 relative to lean subjects, and in longitudinal studies, low baseline Par-4 levels denoted an increased risk of developing obesity later in life. These findings indicate that Par-4 suppresses p53 and its target c3 to regulate obesity.

  • Decadal soil carbon accumulation across Tibetan permafrost regions
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Nature Geoscience. - 1752-0894 .- 1752-0908. ; 10:6, s. 420-424
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Permafrost soils store large amounts of carbon. Warming can result in carbon release from thawing permafrost, but it can also lead to enhanced primary production, which can increase soil carbon stocks. The balance of these fluxes determines the nature of the permafrost feedback to warming. Here we assessed decadal changes in soil organic carbon stocks in the active layer-the uppermost 30 cm-of permafrost soils across Tibetan alpine regions, based on repeated soil carbon measurements in the early 2000s and 2010s at the same sites. We observed an overall accumulation of soil organic carbon irrespective of vegetation type, with a mean rate of 28.0 g Cm-2 yr(-1) across Tibetan permafrost regions. This soil organic carbon accrual occurred only in the subsurface soil, between depths of 10 and 30 cm, mainly induced by an increase of soil organic carbon concentrations. We conclude that the upper active layer of Tibetan alpine permafrost currently represents a substantial regional soil carbon sink in a warming climate, implying that carbon losses of deeper and older permafrost carbon might be offset by increases in upper-active-layer soil organic carbon stocks, which probably results from enhanced vegetation growth.

  • Metal Ti quantum chain-inlaid 2D NaSn2(PO4)3/H-doped hard carbon hybrid electrodes with ultrahigh energy storage density
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Chemical Engineering Journal. - : Elsevier. - 1385-8947 .- 1873-3212. ; 403
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the development of a new hybrid electrode that allows for a reinforcing combination of different energy storage mechanisms, providing enhanced energy and power densities. This hybrid electrode is composed of chain-like metal titanium (zero valency state) quantum dots (< 10 nm), two-dimension NaSn2(PO4)(3) layer and H-doped hard carbon layer, and possesses unique sandwich and hierarchically meso-macroporous structures. These chain-like quantum dots are inlaid on the edge of ultra-thin NaSn2(PO4)(3) nanosheets by using a convenient and economic method, enhancing its conductivity. This design takes advantage of the unique properties of each component and nanostructure, resulting in synergistic effects to improve the charge transfer and energy storage. The hybrid electrode not only shows high capacity, outstanding rate performance and long cycling stability, but also matches well with porous Na3V2(PO4)(3) cathode. Remarkably, the Na/Li mixed-ion full battery exhibits significant improvements on the energy and power densities (555 Wh Kg(-1)/804 W Kg(-1) at 1C). Detailed charge storage mechanism investigation reveals that the prelithiation reduces the pseudocapacitive of hybrid electrode and increases its battery behavior, resulting in an ultrahigh energy storage density. Our findings demonstrate that this hybrid electrode is a new potential candidate for high-performance mixed-ion batteries.

  • MC-MAC : a multi-channel based MAC scheme for interference mitigation in WBANs
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Wireless networks. - : Springer. - 1022-0038 .- 1572-8196. ; 24:3, s. 719-733
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Wireless body area networks (WBANs) support the inter-operability of biomedical sensors and medical institutions with convenience and high-efficiency, which makes it an appropriate solution for the pervasive healthcare. Typically, WBANs comprise in-body or around-body sensor nodes for collecting data of physiological feature. Therefore, the efficient medium access control (MAC) protocol is a crucial paramount to coordinate these devices and forward data to the medical center in an efficient and reliable way. However, the extensive use of wireless channel and coexistence of WBANs may result in inevitable interference which will cause performance degradation. Besides, contention-based access in single channel in WBANs is less efficient for dense medical traffic on account of large packet delay, energy consumption and low priority starvation. To address these issues above, we propose a multi-channel MAC (MC-MAC) scheme to obtain better network performance. Considering the characteristic and emergency degree of medical traffic, we introduce a novel channel mapping and selection mechanism, cooperating with conflict avoidance strategy, to organize nodes to access available channels without collisions. In addition, we have evaluated the performance of MC-MAC and the standard IEEE 802.15.6 via simulation and hardware test. The test is conducted by hardware platform based on prototype system of WBANs. Both of the analysis and simulation results show that MC-MAC outperforms the IEEE 802.15.6 in terms of packet delay, throughput, packet error rate and frame error rate

  • Multivariate time series prediction for CO2 concentration and flowrate of flue gas from biomass-fired power plants
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Fuel. - 0016-2361 .- 1873-7153. ; 359
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Integrating CO2 capture with biomass-fired combined heat and power (bio-CHP) plants is a promising method to achieve negative emissions. However, the use of versatile biomass, including waste, and the dynamic operation of bio-CHP plants leads to large fluctuations in the flowrate and CO2 concentration of the flue gas (FG), which further affect the operation of post-combustion CO2 capture. To optimize the dynamic operation of CO2 capture, a reliable model to predict the FG flowrate and CO2 concentration in real time is essential. In this paper, a data-driven model based on the Transformer architecture is developed. The model validation shows that the root mean squared error (RMSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and Pearson correlation coefficient (PPMCC) of Transformer are 0.3553, 0.0189, and 0.8099 respectively for the prediction of FG flowrate; and 13.137, 0.0318, and 0.8336 respectively for the prediction of CO2 concentration. The potential impact of various meteorological parameters on model accuracy is also assessed by analyzing the Shapley value. It is found that temperature and direct horizontal irradiance (DHI) are the most important factors, which should be selected as input features. In addition, using the near-infrared (NIR) spectral data as input features is also found to be an effective way to improve the prediction accuracy. It can reduce RMSE and MAPE for CO2 concentration from 0.2982 to 0.2887 and 0.0158 to 0.0157 respectively, and RMSE and MAPE for FG flowrate from 4.9854 to 4.7537 and 0.0141 to 0.0121 respectively. The Transformer model is also compared to other models, including long short-term memory network (LSTM) and artificial neural network (ANN), which results show that the Transformer model is superior in predicting complex dynamic patterns and nonlinear relationships.

  • Dual-ionic imidazolium salts to promote synthesis of cyclic carbonates at atmospheric pressure
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Green Energy and Environment. - : Elsevier BV. - 2096-2797 .- 2468-0257. ; 7:6, s. 1327-1339
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Novel dual-ionic imidazolium salts are shown to display excellent catalytic activity for cycloaddition of carbon dioxide and epoxides under room temperature and atmospheric pressure (0.1 MPa) without any solvent and co-catalyst leading to 96.1% product yield. It can be reused five times to keep the product yield over 90%. These intriguing results are attributed to a new reaction mechanism, which is supported by theoretical calculations along with the measurements of 13C NMR spectrum and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The excellent catalytic activity can be traced to a CO2-philic group along with an electrophilic hydrogen atom. Our work shows that incorporation of CO2-philic group is an feasible pathway to develop the new efficient ionic liquids.

  • Dataset of 1 km cropland cover from 1690 to 1999 in Scandinavia
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Earth System Science Data. - : Copernicus GmbH. - 1866-3508 .- 1866-3516. ; 13:6, s. 3035-3056
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Spatially explicit historical land cover datasets are essential not only for simulations of climate and environmental dynamics but also for projections of future land use, food security, climate, and biodiversity. However, widely used global datasets are developed for continental- to global-scale analysis and simulations. Their accuracy depends on the verification of more regional reconstruction results. This study collects cropland area data of each administrative unit (parish/municipality/county) in Scandinavia from multiple sources. The cropland area data are validated, calibrated, interpolated, and allocated into 1 km×1 km grid cells. Then, we develop a dataset with spatially explicit cropland area from 1690 to 1999. Results indicate that the cropland area increased from 1.82×106 ha to 6.71×106 ha from 1690 to 1950 and then decreased to 5.90×106 ha in 1999. Before 1810, cropland cover expanded in southern Scandinavia and remained stable in northern Scandinavia. From 1810 to 1910, northern Scandinavia experienced slight cropland expansion. The cropland area increased rapidly in the southern part of the study area before changing slightly. After 1950, the cropland areas began to decrease in most regions, especially in eastern Scandinavia. When comparing global datasets with this study, although the total Scandinavia cropland area is in agreement among SAGE (Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment), HYDE (History Database of the Global Environment ) 3.2, PJ (Pongratz Julia), and this study, the spatial patterns show considerable differences, except for in Denmark between HYDE 3.2 and this study. The dataset can be downloaded from https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.926591 (Wei et al., 2021).
