  • Impact of Amine Additives on Perovskite Precursor Aging : A Case Study of Light-Emitting Diodes
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1948-7185. ; 12:25, s. 5836-5843
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Amines are widely employed as additives for improving the performance of metal halide perovskite optoelectronic devices. However, amines are well-known for their high chemical reactivity, the impact of which has yet to receive enough attention from the perovskite light-emitting diode community. Here, by investigating an unusual positive aging effect of CH3NH3I/CsI/PbI2 precursor solutions as an example, we reveal that amines gradually undergo N-formylation in perovskite precursors over time. This reaction is initialized by hydrolysis of dimethylformamide in the acidic chemical environment. Further investigations suggest that the reaction products collectively impact perovskite crystallization and eventually lead to significantly enhanced external quantum efficiency values, increasing from similar to 2% for fresh solutions to greater than or similar to 12% for aged ones. While this case study provides a positive aging effect, a negative aging effect is possible in other perovksite systems. Our findings pave the way for more reliable and reproducible device fabrication and call for further attention to underlying chemical reactions within the perovskite inks once amine additives are included.

  • Super-enhancers conserved within placental mammals maintain stem cell pluripotency
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). - 0027-8424 .- 1091-6490. ; 119:40
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite pluripotent stem cells sharing key transcription factors, their maintenance involves distinct genetic inputs. Emerging evidence suggests that super-enhancers (SEs) can function as master regulatory hubs to control cell identity and pluripotency in humans and mice. However, whether pluripotency-associated SEs share an evolutionary origin in mammals remains elusive. Here, we performed comprehensive comparative epigenomic and transcription factor binding analyses among pigs, humans, and mice to identify pluripotency-associated SEs. Like typical enhancers, SEs displayed rapid evolu-tion in mammals. We showed that BRD4 is an essential and conserved activator for mammalian pluripotency-associated SEs. Comparative motif enrichment analysis revealed 30 shared transcription factor binding motifs among the three species. The majority of transcriptional factors that bind to identified motifs are known regulators associated with pluripotency. Further, we discovered three pluripotency-associated SEs (SE-SOX2, SE-PIM1, and SE-FGFR1) that displayed remarkable conservation in pla-cental mammals and were sufficient to drive reporter gene expression in a pluripotency-dependent manner. Disruption of these conserved SEs through the CRISPR-Cas9 approach severely impaired stem cell pluripotency. Our study provides insights into the understanding of conserved regulatory mechanisms underlying the maintenance of plu-ripotency as well as species-specific modulation of the pluripotency-associated regula-tory networks in mammals.

  • Recent Advances in Oxidation Stable Chemistry of 2D MXenes
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Advanced Materials. - : Wiley-VCH Verlagsgesellschaft. - 0935-9648 .- 1521-4095. ; 34:13
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As an emerging star of 2D nanomaterials, 2D transition metal carbides and nitrides, named MXenes, present a large potential in various research areas owing to their intrinsic multilayer structure and intriguing physico-chemical properties. However, the fabrication and application of functional MXene-based devices still remain challenging as they are prone to oxidative degradation under ambient environment. Within this review, the preparation methods of MXenes focusing on the recent investigations on their thermal structure-stability relationships in inert, oxidizing, and aqueous environments are systematically introduced. Moreover, the key factors that affect the oxidation of MXenes, such as, atmosphere, temperature, composition, microstructure, and aqueous environment, are reviewed. Based on different scenarios, strategies for avoiding or delaying the oxidation of MXenes are proposed to encourage the utilization of MXenes in complicated environments, especially at high temperature. Furthermore, the chemistry of MXene-derived oxides is analyzed, which can offer perspectives on the further design and fabrication of novel 2D composites with the unique structures of MXenes being preserved.

  • Novel Method to Identify the Precentral Gyrus and Its Detailed Functional Distribution in Real Brain Surfaces Using Reconstructed 3D Brain Surface Imaging
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: JOURNAL OF MEDICAL IMAGING AND HEALTH INFORMATICS. - : American Scientific Publishers. - 2156-7018 .- 2156-7026. ; 5:2, s. 216-222
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To study the use of reconstructed 3D brain surface imaging (RBSI) to identify the precentral gyrus and its detailed functional distribution in epileptic patients. Method: A total of 12 refractory epilepsy cases that need intracranial electrode implantation were studied. In these patients, pre-operative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and functional MRI (fMRI) were conducted, and a cranial computed tomography (CT) scan was performed after electrode implantation. The RBSI was accomplished using Brain Voyager software based on MRI data, and then the 3D brain surface was integrated with the subdural electrode CT scan. The precentral gyrus was found in the reconstructed brain surface imaging according to their anatomical shape, and then were identified in the surgical field by comparing the exposed gyrus in the RBSI with the help of intraoperative photographs. Results: Total 12 cases of precentral gyrus was found and marked in the RBSI. There were 101 electrodes covering the precentral gyrus and 73 (72%) of them had motor response to electrical stimulation. In the contrast, (the area which is 1 cm ahead of the precentral gyrus), the motor response rate was 13% (17/130) (p < 0.05). During fMRI, 100% of the precentral gyrus and 58% (7/12) of post central gyrus was activated during hand movement. Whereas, no activation of the areas ahead of precentral gyrus was seen showing a significant difference between precentral gyrus and gyrus ahead. Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that using RBSI technique, it is possible to identify the precentral gyrus with precision.

  • High-Quality Ruddlesden-Popper Perovskite Films Based on In Situ Formed Organic Spacer Cations
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Advanced Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 0935-9648 .- 1521-4095. ; 31:41
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites (RPPs), consisting of alternating organic spacer layers and inorganic layers, have emerged as a promising alternative to 3D perovskites for both photovoltaic and light-emitting applications. The organic spacer layers provide a wide range of new possibilities to tune the properties and even provide new functionalities for RPPs. However, the preparation of state-of-the-art RPPs requires organic ammonium halides as the starting materials, which need to be ex situ synthesized. A novel approach to prepare high-quality RPP films through in situ formation of organic spacer cations from amines is presented. Compared with control devices fabricated from organic ammonium halides, this new approach results in similar (and even better) device performance for both solar cells and light-emitting diodes. High-quality RPP films are fabricated based on different types of amines, demonstrating the universality of the approach. This approach not only represents a new pathway to fabricate efficient devices based on RPPs, but also provides an effective method to screen new organic spacers with further improved performance.

  • Rational molecular passivation for high-performance perovskite light-emitting diodes
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nature Photonics. - : Springer Nature Publishing AG. - 1749-4885 .- 1749-4893. ; 13:6, s. 418-424
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A major efficiency limit for solution-processed perovskite optoelectronic devices, for example light-emitting diodes, is trap-mediated non-radiative losses. Defect passivation using organic molecules has been identified as an attractive approach to tackle this issue. However, implementation of this approach has been hindered by a lack of deep understanding of how the molecular structures influence the effectiveness of passivation. We show that the so far largely ignored hydrogen bonds play a critical role in affecting the passivation. By weakening the hydrogen bonding between the passivating functional moieties and the organic cation featuring in the perovskite, we significantly enhance the interaction with defect sites and minimize non-radiative recombination losses. Consequently, we achieve exceptionally high-performance near-infrared perovskite light-emitting diodes with a record external quantum efficiency of 21.6%. In addition, our passivated perovskite light-emitting diodes maintain a high external quantum efficiency of 20.1% and a wall-plug efficiency of 11.0% at a high current density of 200 mA cm−2, making them more attractive than the most efficient organic and quantum-dot light-emitting diodes at high excitations.

  • Neural network based iterative learning control for magnetic shape memory alloy actuator with iteration-dependent uncertainties
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing. - : Elsevier BV. - 0888-3270 .- 1096-1216. ; 187
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The magnetic shape memory alloy based actuator (MSMA-BA) is an indispensable component mechanism for high-precision positioning systems as it possesses the advantages of high precision, low energy consumption, and large stroke. However, hysteresis is an intrinsic property of MSMA material, which seriously affects the positioning accuracy of MSMA-BA. In this study, we propose a multi meta-model approach incorporating the nonlinear auto-regressive moving average with exogenous inputs (NARMAX) and Bouc–Wen (BW) models to describe the complex dynamic hysteresis of MSMA-BA. In particular, the BW model is introduced into the NARMAX model as an exogenous variable function, and a wavelet neural network (WNN) is adopted to construct the nonlinear function of the multi meta-model. In addition, iterative learning control is combined with a WNN to improve its convergence speed. A two-valued function is employed in the controller design process, so as to make use of history iteration information in updating control input. The main contribution of this study is the convergence analysis of the proposed iteration learning controller with iteration-dependent uncertainties (non-strict repetition of the initial state and varying iteration length). The experiments conducted on the MSMA-BA illustrate the validity of the proposed control scheme.

  • 1.6 Million transactions replicate distributed PV market slowdown by COVID-19 lockdown
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Applied Energy. - : ELSEVIER SCI LTD. - 0306-2619 .- 1872-9118. ; 283
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Solar PV has seen a spectacular market development in recent years and has become a cost competitive source of electricity in many parts of the world. Yet, prospective observations show that the coronavirus pandemic could impact renewable energy projects, especially in the distributed market. Tracking and attributing the economic footprint of COVID-19 lockdowns in the photovoltaic sector poses a significant research challenge. Based on millions of financial transaction records and 44 thousand photovoltaic installation records, we tracked the spatiotemporal sale network of the distributed photovoltaic market and explored the extent of market slowdown. We found that a two-month lockdown duration can be assessed as a high-risk threshold value. When the lockdown duration exceeds the threshold value, the monthly value-added loss reaches 67.7%, and emission reduction capacity is cut by 64.2% over the whole year. We show that risks of a slowdown in PV deployment due to COVID19 lockdowns can be mitigated by comprehensive incentive strategies for the distributed PV market amid market uncertainties.

  • Epidemic versus economic performances of the COVID-19 lockdown : A big data driven analysis
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Cities. - : Elsevier BV. - 0264-2751 .- 1873-6084. ; 120
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lockdown measures have been a “panacea” for pandemic control but also a violent “poison” for economies.Lockdown policies strongly restrict human mobility but mobility reduce does harm to economics. Governmentsmeet a thorny problem in balancing the pros and cons of lockdown policies, but lack comprehensive andquantified guides. Based on millions of financial transaction records, and billions of mobility data, we trackedspatio-temporal business networks and human daily mobility, then proposed a high-resolution two-sidedframework to assess the epidemiological performance and economic damage of different lockdown policies. Wefound that the pandemic duration under the strictest lockdown is less about two months than that under thelightest lockdown, which makes the strictest lockdown characterize both epidemiologically and economicallyefficient. Moreover, based on the two-sided model, we explored the spatial lockdown strategy. We argue thatcutting off intercity commuting is significant in both epidemiological and economical aspects, and finally helpedgovernments figure out the Pareto optimal solution set of lockdown strategy.

  • Bidirectional optical signal transmission between two identical devices using perovskite diodes
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: NATURE ELECTRONICS. - : NATURE PUBLISHING GROUP. - 2520-1131. ; 3:3, s. 156-164
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A solution-processed perovskite diode that functions as both optical transmitter and receiver can be used to build a monolithic pulse sensor and a bidirectional optical communication system. The integration of optical signal generation and reception into one device-thus allowing a bidirectional optical signal transmission between two identical devices-is of value in the development of miniaturized and integrated optoelectronic devices. However, conventional solution-processable semiconductors have intrinsic material and design limitations that prevent them from being used to create such devices with a high performance. Here we report an efficient solution-processed perovskite diode that is capable of working in both emission and detection modes. The device can be switched between modes by changing the bias direction, and it exhibits light emission with an external quantum efficiency of over 21% and a light detection limit on a subpicowatt scale. The operation speed for both functions can reach tens of megahertz. Benefiting from the small Stokes shift of perovskites, our diodes exhibit a high specific detectivity (more than 2 x 10(12) Jones) at its peak emission (~804 nm), which allows an optical signal exchange between two identical diodes. To illustrate the potential of the dual-functional diode, we show that it can be used to create a monolithic pulse sensor and a bidirectional optical communication system.
