  • CTAB@BiOCl: a highly adsorptive photocatalyst for eliminating dye contamination
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: RSC Advances. - : ROYAL SOC CHEMISTRY. - 2046-2069. ; 6:22, s. 18577-18582
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The title composite was synthesized under facile conditions by hydrolysis and co-precipitation. Through comparative studies, it was found that the morphology, structure and properties were affected by hexadecyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) doping. Although the surface area decreases from 53.5 to 7.5 m(2) g(-1), it was found that CTAB@BiOCl exhibits higher adsorption capacity than the isolated BiOCl, and still maintains good photocatalytic activity, which is a little worse than the isolated BiOCl has. This was caused by the lower content of BiOCl in CTAB@BiOCl, which is less than 70%. The studies show that, in high concentrations of dye-contaminated water, the composite exhibits strong adsorption capacities of 901 mg g(-1) to Congo Red (CR) and 699 mg g(-1) to Reactive Red 3 (X3B). In the low-concentration case, it is able to process photocatalysis of those dyes. In the recycling experiment, the CTAB@BiOCl composite was regenerated in situ. And CTAB in the composite was almost completely degraded after five cycles, resulting in the regenerated BiOCl. Subsequently, the surface area of the composite increases from 7.5 to 22.62 m(2) g(-1), and along with this the adsorption capacities to CR and X3B decrease obviously due to the absence of the CTAB component. In addition, the photocatalysis activity of the generated composite has been promoted to be similar to the isolated BiOCl.

  • Sociohydrology modeling for complex urban environments in support of integrated land and water resource management practices
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Land Degradation and Development. - : Wiley. - 1085-3278 .- 1099-145X. ; 29:10, s. 3639-3652
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper argues that a systems' thinking and explicit modeling approach is needed to address noted weaknesses (in terms of practicality and usefulness) in integrated water resource management. A process of coupling complex regional land use, economy, and water system interactions in integrated modeling is demonstrated with proof-of-concept applications to two urban cases (Chicago and Stockholm). In this uniquely coupled systems model, urban land use scenarios are considered a complex urban system represented by dynamic systems models of land use, economics, and water with a focus on urban environments that include drivers and system feedbacks with implications focused on urban water systems. The integrated model results reveal that the physical availability of land for economic activities (forecasted via a bottom-up land use change model) and their locations differ sharply from top-down sectoral-based economic forecasts. This shows that both human systems (economic and land use planning) and natural systems (land use limitations and associated water implications) need to be considered in order to accurately account for system(s) impacts. For example, flood zone regulations divert land use to other locations, whereas land cover changes can greatly affect the water infiltration characteristics of land surfaces and thereby alter hydrological outcomes. Our results indicate that modeling social and natural processes using a systems approach can provide a more comprehensive understanding of coupled causal mechanisms, impacts, and feedbacks in applications of integrated water resource management.

  • Development and external validation of a post-discharge bleeding risk score in patients with acute coronary syndrome : The BleeMACS score
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Cardiology. - : ELSEVIER IRELAND LTD. - 0167-5273 .- 1874-1754. ; 254, s. 10-15
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Accurate 1-year bleeding risk estimation after hospital discharge for acute coronary syndrome(ACS) may help clinicians guide the type and duration of antithrombotic therapy. Currently there are no predictive models for this purpose. The aim of this study was to derive and validate a simple clinical tool for bedside risk estimation of 1-year post-discharge serious bleeding in ACS patients. Methods: The risk score was derived and internally validated in the BleeMACS (Bleeding complications in a Multicenter registry of patients discharged with diagnosis of Acute Coronary Syndrome) registry, an observational international registry involving 15,401 patients surviving admission for ACS and undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from 2003 to 2014, engaging 15 hospitals from 10 countries located in America, Europe and Asia. External validation was conducted in the SWEDEHEART population, with 96,239 ACS patients underwent PCI and 93,150 without PCI.Results: Seven independent predictors of bleeding were identified and included in the BleeMACS score: age, hypertension, vascular disease, history of bleeding, malignancy, creatinine and hemoglobin. The BleeMACS risk score exhibited a C-statistic value of 0.71 (95% CI 0.68-0.74) in the derivation cohort and 0.72 (95% CI 0.67-0.76) in the internal validation sample. In the SWEDEHEART external validation cohort, the C-statistic was 0.65 (95% CI 0.64-0.66) for PCI patients and 0.63 (95% CI 0.62-0.64) for non-PCI patients. The calibration was excellent in the derivation and validation cohorts. Conclusions: The BleeMACS bleeding risk score is a simple tool useful for identifying those ACS patients at higher risk of serious 1-year post-discharge bleeding.

  • Deciphering the photophysical properties of naphthalimide derivatives using ultrafast spectroscopy
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics - PCCP. - : ROYAL SOC CHEMISTRY. - 1463-9076 .- 1463-9084. ; 26:5, s. 4607-4613
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Naphthalimide derivatives composed of donor-acceptor type structures hold significant promise across a wide range of applications. Here, the solvent polarity and viscosity controlled excited-state dynamics of a naphthalimide derivative with a donor-acceptor structure were studied using multiple spectroscopic techniques. From the stationary spectroscopic investigations, large Stokes shift and low fluorescence quantum yield were observed with increasing the solvent polarity, suggesting a more polar excited state relative to the ground state, which is evidenced by the Lippert-Mataga relationship. We also observe an enhanced fluorescence with a prolonged lifetime in a more viscous solution due to the restriction of excited-state molecular rearrangement. These observations result from the emerged twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) state. The ultrafast spectroscopy studies further unravel a solvent polarity dependent excited state evolution from the intramolecular charge transfer state to the TICT state, revealing that the TICT state can be populated only in strong polar solvents. Control experiments by tuning the solvent viscosity in ultrafast experiments were employed to verify the excited state molecular rearrangement subsequently. These observations collectively emphasize how fine-tuning the photophysical properties of naphthalimide derivatives can be achieved through strategic manipulation of solvent polarity and viscosity. The TICT mechanism of naphthalimide derivative was investigated by ultrafast spectroscopy, unraveling the dielectronic constant controlled excited state evolution from LE/ICT to the TICT state accompanied by the molecular rearrangement.

  • Integrating Aggregation Induced Emission and Twisted Intramolecular Charge Transfer via Molecular Engineering
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Advanced Functional Materials. - : Wiley-VCH Verlagsgesellschaft. - 1616-301X .- 1616-3028. ; 34:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The pursuit of sensitive fluorescent chromophores with integrated aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) properties are attractive due to the tunable emission properties and increased intensity. However, this type of chromophore has yet to be exemplified mechanistically. In this study, a strategy is presented for manipulating the formation of TICT and the AIE effect through molecular engineering. The feasibility of TICT properties is validated by theoretical calculations and ultrafast spectroscopies. By precisely adjusting the hydrophobicity of the donor group, the fluorescence is significantly enhanced through the addition of poor solvent. These findings not only provide mechanistic elucidation for chromophores exhibiting integrated TICT and AIE properties in various environmental conditions but also underscore the critical factors for the systematic design of chromophores with high tunability and strong emissions.
