  • Development of the ASHRAE Global Thermal Comfort Database II
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Building and Environment. - : Elsevier BV. - 0360-1323. ; 142, s. 502-512
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recognizing the value of open-source research databases in advancing the art and science of HVAC, in 2014 the ASHRAE Global Thermal Comfort Database II project was launched under the leadership of University of California at Berkeley's Center for the Built Environment and The University of Sydney's Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Laboratory. The exercise began with a systematic collection and harmonization of raw data from the last two decades of thermal comfort field studies around the world. The ASHRAE Global Thermal Comfort Database II (Comfort Database), now an online, open-source database, includes approximately 81,846 complete sets of objective indoor climatic observations with accompanying “right-here-right-now” subjective evaluations by the building occupants who were exposed to them. The database is intended to support diverse inquiries about thermal comfort in field settings. A simple web-based interface to the database enables filtering on multiple criteria, including building typology, occupancy type, subjects' demographic variables, subjective thermal comfort states, indoor thermal environmental criteria, calculated comfort indices, environmental control criteria and outdoor meteorological information. Furthermore, a web-based interactive thermal comfort visualization tool has been developed that allows end-users to quickly and interactively explore the data.

  • Chloride Induced Secondary Passive Film Failure for Laser Additive Manufacturing Nickel-Based Superalloys during Electrochemical Machining
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Electrochemical Society. - : The Electrochemical Society. - 0013-4651 .- 1945-7111. ; 170:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigated the influence of chloride on the secondary passive film (SPF) on laser directed energy deposition Alloy 718 during electrochemical machining. The results show that SPF formed in chloride-containing electrolyte is more defective than that formed in chloride-free solution, due to the stepped-up cation ejection by chloride. Chloride accelerates the SPF failure via enhanced cation vacancy condensation, SPF dissolution and possibly via surface vacancy pairs' coalescence, restraining the formation of CrO3 and inducing a better surface quality than does the chloride-free electrolyte. Based on the Point Defect Model, a mechanism describing the influence of chloride on SPF was developed.

  • Growth and properties of AlSbBi thin films by molecular beam epitaxy
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Alloys and Compounds. - : Elsevier BV. - 0925-8388. ; 801, s. 239-242
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AlSbBi thin films with a Bi content up to 15% have been successfully grown by molecular beam epitaxy for the first time. The effect of growth temperature, Sb flux and Bi flux on Bi incorporation are systematically studied. The incorporation of small size Al atoms is proven to be beneficial to improve the stability of AlSbBi with no change of Bi content in the growth temperature range of 360–420 °C. The AlBi lattice constant is determined to be about 6.37 Å by the combination of Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy and high resolution X-ray diffraction. The new AlBi vibration modes located at 286 cm−1 and 295 cm−1 are observed and attributed to AlBi TO and LO mode, respectively, in agreement with theoretical simulations.

  • GCHAR : An efficient Group-based Context–aware human activity recognition on smartphone
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing. - : Elsevier. - 0743-7315 .- 1096-0848. ; 118:part-1, s. 67-80
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • With smartphones increasingly becoming ubiquitous and being equipped with various sensors, nowadays, there is a trend towards implementing HAR (Human Activity Recognition) algorithms and applications on smartphones, including health monitoring, self-managing system and fitness tracking. However, one of the main issues of the existing HAR schemes is that the classification accuracy is relatively low, and in order to improve the accuracy, high computation overhead is needed. In this paper, an efficient Group-based Context-aware classification method for human activity recognition on smartphones, GCHAR is proposed, which exploits hierarchical group-based scheme to improve the classification efficiency, and reduces the classification error through context awareness rather than the intensive computation. Specifically, GCHAR designs the two-level hierarchical classification structure, i.e., inter-group and inner-group, and utilizes the previous state and transition logic (so-called context awareness) to detect the transitions among activity groups. In comparison with other popular classifiers such as RandomTree, Bagging, J48, BayesNet, KNN and Decision Table, thorough experiments on the realistic dataset (UCI HAR repository) demonstrate that GCHAR achieves the best classification accuracy, reaching 94.1636%, and time consumption in training stage of GCHAR is four times shorter than the simple Decision Table and is decreased by 72.21% in classification stage in comparison with BayesNet.

  • Oral fungal profiling and risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma : a population-based case-control study
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: EBioMedicine. - 2352-3964. ; 96
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Dysbiosis of the oral mycobiome has been linked to some diseases, including cancers. However, the role of oral fungal communities in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) carcinogenesis has not previously been investigated.METHODS: We characterized the oral salivary fungal mycobiome in 476 untreated incident NPC patients and 537 population-based controls using fungal internal transcribed spacer (ITS)-2 sequencing. The relationship between oral fungal mycobiome and the risk of NPC was assessed through bioinformatic and biostatistical analyses.FINDINGS: We found that lower fungal alpha diversity was associated with an increased odds of NPC [lower vs. higher: observed features (adjusted odds ratio [OR] = 5.81, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 3.60-9.38); Simpson diversity (1.53, 1.03-2.29); Shannon diversity (2.03, 1.35-3.04)]. We also observed a significant difference in global fungal community patterns between cases and controls based on Bray-Curtis dissimilarity (P < 0.001). Carriage of oral fungal species, specifically, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida tropicalis, Lodderomyces elongisporus, Candida albicans, and Fusarium poae, was associated with significantly higher odds of NPC, with ORs ranging from 1.56 to 4.66. Individuals with both low fungal and low bacterial alpha diversity had a profoundly elevated risk of NPC.INTERPRETATION: Our results suggest that dysbiosis in the oral mycobiome, characterized by a loss of fungal community diversity and overgrowth of several fungal organisms, is associated with a substantially increased risk of NPC.FUNDING: This work was funded by the US National Institutes of Health, the Swedish Research Council, the High-level Talents Research Start-up Project of Fujian Medical University, and the China Scholarship Council.

  • The Genome Sequence of Taurine Cattle : A Window to Ruminant Biology and Evolution
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Science. - : American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). - 0036-8075 .- 1095-9203. ; 324:5926, s. 522-528
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To understand the biology and evolution of ruminants, the cattle genome was sequenced to about sevenfold coverage. The cattle genome contains a minimum of 22,000 genes, with a core set of 14,345 orthologs shared among seven mammalian species of which 1217 are absent or undetected in noneutherian (marsupial or monotreme) genomes. Cattle-specific evolutionary breakpoint regions in chromosomes have a higher density of segmental duplications, enrichment of repetitive elements, and species-specific variations in genes associated with lactation and immune responsiveness. Genes involved in metabolism are generally highly conserved, although five metabolic genes are deleted or extensively diverged from their human orthologs. The cattle genome sequence thus provides a resource for understanding mammalian evolution and accelerating livestock genetic improvement for milk and meat production.

  • Cobalt oxides coated commercial Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-delta as high performance cathode for low-temperature SOFCs
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Electrochimica Acta. - : Elsevier. - 0013-4686 .- 1873-3859. ; 191, s. 223-229
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In order to improve the catalytic activity of commercial Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-delta (BSCF) for low-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (LTSOFC) (300-600 degrees C), CoOx has been used to modify the commercial BSCF through a solution coating approach. Phase and morphology of samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS), respectively. BSCF with 10 wt% CoOx exhibited an improved conductivity of 44 S/cm, and achieved a peak power density of 463 mW/cm(2) at 550 degrees C for LTSOFC, which is a 100% enhancement than that with the BSCF cathode. The cathode oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) promoted by CoOx and enhanced device performance mechanism have been proposed. This work provides a new way for the exploitation of high effective cathode materials for LTSOFCs.
