  • The Seventh Visual Object Tracking VOT2019 Challenge Results
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: 2019 IEEE/CVF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER VISION WORKSHOPS (ICCVW). - : IEEE COMPUTER SOC. - 9781728150239 ; , s. 2206-2241
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2019 is the seventh annual tracker benchmarking activity organized by the VOT initiative. Results of 81 trackers are presented; many are state-of-the-art trackers published at major computer vision conferences or in journals in the recent years. The evaluation included the standard VOT and other popular methodologies for short-term tracking analysis as well as the standard VOT methodology for long-term tracking analysis. The VOT2019 challenge was composed of five challenges focusing on different tracking domains: (i) VOT-ST2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB, (ii) VOT-RT2019 challenge focused on "real-time" short-term tracking in RGB, (iii) VOT-LT2019 focused on long-term tracking namely coping with target disappearance and reappearance. Two new challenges have been introduced: (iv) VOT-RGBT2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB and thermal imagery and (v) VOT-RGBD2019 challenge focused on long-term tracking in RGB and depth imagery. The VOT-ST2019, VOT-RT2019 and VOT-LT2019 datasets were refreshed while new datasets were introduced for VOT-RGBT2019 and VOT-RGBD2019. The VOT toolkit has been updated to support both standard short-term, long-term tracking and tracking with multi-channel imagery. Performance of the tested trackers typically by far exceeds standard baselines. The source code for most of the trackers is publicly available from the VOT page. The dataset, the evaluation kit and the results are publicly available at the challenge website(1).

  • Future-proofing Secure V2V Communication against Clogging DoS Attacks
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: ARES 2024 - 19th International Conference on Availability, Reliability and Security, Proceedings. - : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Clogging Denial of Service (DoS) attacks have disrupted or disabled various networks, in spite of security mechanisms. External adversaries can severely harm networks, especially when high-overhead security mechanisms are deployed in resource-constrained systems. This can be especially true in the emerging standardized secure Vehicular Communication (VC) systems: mandatory message signature verification can be exploited to exhaust resources and prevent validating incoming messages sent by neighboring vehicles, information that is critical, often, for transportation safety. Efficient message verification schemes and better provisioned devices could serve as potential remedies, but existing solutions have limitations. We point out those and identify, challenges to address for scalable and resilient secure Vehicular Communication (VC) systems, and, most notably, the need for integrating defense mechanisms against clogging Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. We take the position that existing secure Vehicular Communication (VC) protocols are vulnerable to clogging Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and recommend symmetric key chain based pre-validation with mandatory signature verification to thwart clogging Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, while maintaining all key security properties, including non-repudiation to enable accountability.

  • Virus-associated organosulfur metabolism in human and environmental systems
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Cell Reports. - : Cell Press. - 2211-1247. ; 36:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Viruses influence the fate of nutrients and human health by killing microorganisms and altering metabolic processes. Organosulfur metabolism and biologically derived hydrogen sulfide play dynamic roles in manifestation of diseases, infrastructure degradation, and essential biological processes. Although microbial organosulfur metabolism is well studied, the role of viruses in organosulfur metabolism is unknown. Here, we report the discovery of 39 gene families involved in organosulfur metabolism encoded by 3,749 viruses from diverse ecosystems, including human microbiomes. The viruses infect organisms from all three domains of life. Six gene families encode for enzymes that degrade organosulfur compounds into sulfide, whereas others manipulate organosulfur compounds and may influence sulfide production. We show that viral metabolic genes encode key enzymatic domains, are translated into protein, and are maintained after recombination, and sulfide provides a fitness advantage to viruses. Our results reveal viruses as drivers of organosulfur metabolism with important implications for human and environmental health.

  • Hypoxic erythrocytes mediate cardioprotection through activation of soluble guanylate cyclase and release of cyclic GMP
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Investigation. - : American Society For Clinical Investigation. - 0021-9738 .- 1558-8238. ; 133:17
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Red blood cells (RBCs) mediate cardioprotection via nitric oxide-like bioactivity, but the signaling and the identity of any mediator released by the RBCs remains unknown. We investigated whether RBCs exposed to hypoxia release a cardioprotective mediator and explored the nature of this mediator. Perfusion of isolated hearts subjected to ischemia-reperfusion with extracellular supernatant from mouse RBCs exposed to hypoxia resulted in improved postischemic cardiac function and reduced infarct size. Hypoxia increased extracellular export of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) from mouse RBCs, and exogenous cGMP mimicked the cardioprotection induced by the supernatant. The protection induced by hypoxic RBCs was dependent on RBC-soluble guanylate cyclase and cGMP transport and was sensitive to phosphodiesterase 5 and activated cardiomyocyte protein kinase G. Oral administration of nitrate to mice to increase nitric oxide bioactivity further enhanced the cardioprotective effect of hypoxic RBCs. In a placebo-controlled clinical trial, a clear cardioprotective, soluble guanylate cyclase-dependent effect was induced by RBCs collected from patients randomized to 5 weeks nitrate-rich diet. It is concluded that RBCs generate and export cGMP as a response to hypoxia, mediating cardioprotection via a paracrine effect. This effect can be further augmented by a simple dietary intervention, suggesting preventive and therapeutic opportunities in ischemic heart disease.

  • Controller Sensitivity-Based Shaping Method for Grid Forming Inverter
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: 2023 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition, ECCE 2023. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). ; , s. 6273-6278
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Parameter-based damping ratio sensitivity (DRS) is usually used for designing multi-loop complex control systems in grid-forming (GFM) inverters. However, it is found that this method will be affected not only by the interactions among parameters in a controller, but also by the change of the parameter itself, which makes the parameter design based on the parameter-based DRS unreliable. To address these issues, each controller is considered as a whole, which avoids the interactions among controller parameters in a controller. Then, the controller-based determinant sensitivity (DS) that calculates the sensitivity of each controller to system stability is proposed for designing the control system, which will not be affected by interactions among parameters since the sensitivity is calculated at the controller level. Then, combined with the proposed solution, a controller shaping method is also presented, which can improve system stability by shaping the controller. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is validated through experimental results.
