    • Conjugate addition of Meldrum's acid to 2-cyclohexenone followed by direct cyclization in PPA/acetic acid constitutes a shorter, more reproducible and higher yielding route to bicyclo[2.2.2]octane-2,6-dione than previous methods. The crude dione could be used as substrate for the baker's yeast reduction to (IR, 4S, 6S)-bicyclo[2.2.2]octane-6-ol-2-one.

    • A facile synthetic method for the construction of 2-substituted-4-oxo-4H-quinolizine-based core structure has been successfully developed. The synthesis made use of a one-pot Stobbe condensation followed by cyclization starting from the commercially available 2-pyridinecarbaldehyde. The structure of the formed 4-oxo-4H-quinolizine-2-carboxylate was fully confirmed by mass spectra, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR, correlation spectrography, heteronuclear multiple bond correlation, and heteronuclear single quantum coherence (HSQC) spectra. The ethyl carboxylate moiety was then further functionalized via direct aminolysis by a range of amines to afford the corresponding 4-oxo-4H-quinolizine-2-carboxamides 4a-i in moderate to good yields.

    • Six meta-substituted salicylaldehyde compounds have been prepared in 68-90% yields by the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction using 3-bromo-5-t-butylsalicylaldehyde (la) and arylboronic acids (2a-f) as reactants. Among the obtained products, 3-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-t-butylsalicylaldehyde (3b), 3-(4-methylphenyl)-5-t-butylsalicylaldehyde (3d), 3-(1-naphthyl)-5-t-butylsalicylaldehyde (3e), and 3-(2-naphthyl)-5-t-butylsalicylaldehyde (3f) have not been reported so far. A series of new Schiff base ligands (L1-L10) were obtained in 51-89% yields from these salicylaldehyde derivatives.

    • A suitable procedure for convenient preparation of 1,3,5-tris(4-hydroxy-5-formylphenyl)benzene (6) was exploited via 5-bromosalicylaldehyde as starting reactant. Among the obtained products, compound 6, 4-methoxy-3-formylphenylboronic acid (9), 1,3,5-tris(4-methoxy-5-formylphenyl)benzene (10), and 4-methoxy-4'-hydroxyl-3,3'-diformyl-1,1'-diphenyl (11) had not been reported previously. Two new chiral Schiff base ligands, L1 and L2, were obtained from the tri- or disalicylaldehydes.

    • Fentanyl analogues have appeared on the recreational drug market during the last ten years and caused many fatal overdoses around the world due to their high potencies. Their metabolites are of great interest for toxicology, metabolism and identification studies. According to the literature, fentanyl analogues with similar structures have similar metabolism profile. Therefore, a synthetic route that enables synthesis of the corresponding metabolites for several fentanyl analogues would be valuable. Fentanyl analogue metabolites are often polar and tailing on silica gel. Hence, the purification of these substances could be challengeable. In this work, a general synthetic route was developed and described for the multi-gram scale synthesis of 14 potential metabolites of seven fentanyl analogues. The synthetic route is concise and optimized, does not require any use of silica gel purification and is therefore convenient for large-scale synthesis. The overall yields of the metabolites were in the range of 25-57%.

    • This review covers the literature from 2005 to till date. Oxidation chemistry is a dynamic field of organic synthesis as it keeps evolving with the passage of time. There is a recent surge in that area to switch over from inorganic oxidants to organic oxidants. The oxidation of heteroatom is an intriguing task for the synthetic chemists, as it requires mild oxidant with no harmful side products. Dimethyldioxirane serves as a super-effective oxidant as it shows high functional group tolerance and possess acetone as byproducts which is also eco-friendly. This review summarizes the heteroatom oxidation of sulfur, nitrogen, iodine, selenium, phosphorous, and platinum atoms using DMDO as an oxidant.

    • [image omitted] Two series of chiral Schiff bases 3a-g and 4a-g containing bromo- and iodo-functionalized hydroxynaphthalene frameworks were conveniently prepared in acceptable to moderate yields by controlled halogenation of hydroxynaphthaldehyde and then condensation of the corresponding mono-, di-, and trihalohydroxynaphthaldehyde with the chiral amino alcohol. Except for 4d, the Schiff bases 3a-g, 4a-c, and 4e-g prepared in the present work have not been reported in literature so far, and they might be used as effective chiral inducers in some asymmetrically synthetic reactions.

Herein, a straightforward method has been developed and reported for the synthesis of a key intermediate in four steps with an overall yield of 49% on a multigram scale, and its application in the synthesis of nine potential metabolites of synthetic cannabinoids with a 5F-4OH pentyl side chain.

    • Two new polydentate ligands, 1-(6-hydroxymethyl-2-pyridyl)-3-(2-pyridyl)-propane-1,3-dione (6) and 1,3-bis(6-hydroxymethyl-2-pyridyl)-propane-1, 3-dione (8), have been synthesized starting from 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid by conventional esterification, reduction, and condensation reactions. They were further converted to two new polydentate ligands, 3-(6-hydroxymethyl-2-pyridyl)-5-(2-pyridyl)-1H-pyrazole (7) and 3,5-bis(6-hydroxymethyl-2-pyridyl)-1H-pyrazole (9), by reaction with hydrazine hydrate. These four compounds were characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 NMR), electrospray ionization-mass spectrum (ESI-MS), infrared spectrum (IR), and elemental analyses. The structure of 9 was also determined by X-ray diffraction.

    • Acetals are efficiently hydrolyzed with silica gel‐supported pyridinium tosylate moistened with water in solvent‐free conditions under microwave irradiation. The method is efficient and mild, with acid‐sensitive 3‐hydroxyacetals and 3‐methoxyacetals being hydrolyzed in minutes in good yields.

    • OBJECTIVE: There is limited knowledge about how adolescents with asthma view their disease in daily life and how these views impact on management. The aim of this study was to describe experiences of daily life, with particular focus on thoughts, feelings and management of adolescents with asthma.METHODS: In this qualitative study, data were obtained from 10 interviews with adolescents (aged 16-18 years) with asthma recruited from the Swedish population-based prospective birth cohort, BAMSE. Data were analysed through Systematic Text Condensation.RESULTS: Experiences of daily life among adolescents with asthma were defined in four categories: Insight and understanding; Asthma not the focus of daily life; Being acknowledged and, Being affected by asthma symptoms. The adolescents had developed an insight into and understanding of their disease, but did not want asthma to be the focus of their daily lives. The adolescents wanted their asthma to be acknowledged, but not to the point that they were defined by their asthma. They reported having many asthma symptoms, especially during physical activity, but also described a desire to feel healthy, "normal" and like their peers.CONCLUSIONS: Having asthma in adolescence involves several struggles with ambivalence between adapting socially, feeling healthy and managing one's asthma.IMPLICATIONS IN CLINICAL PRACTICE: The provision of person-centred care may be one way to handle the ambivalence among adolescents with asthma and thereby help them to manage their asthma.
