  • Nurses competencies in Home health care : An interview study

    • Background: Nurses working in Home health care (HHC) are facing major challenges when more advanced care and treatment are performing in the patient’s home. The aim of this study was to explore how nurses experiencing their competencies in HHC. Methods: This study has a qualitative and explorative design. Ten nurses were interviewed and data were analysed by content analysis.Results: The themes “Being a capable nurse”, “Being a useful nurse” and “Being a subordinate and dependent nurse” were identified. Nurses want to be capable to take care of patients, develop their competencies and perform their duties in the way that are requested. They also want to be useful in their work and providing good and safe HHC. Finally, nurses want to improve the care in HHC with their competencies. Simultaneously, they are subordinate and dependent in the relation with their manager and manager’s interest to encourage nurses’ competence development.Conclusions: Nurses in HHC are responsible for many seriously ill patients and they want to contribute to a good and safe patient care. To maintain patient safety, reduce the risk for burnout and staff turnover as well as to contribute to a sustainable development of the work, strategies for transfer competencies between nurses and efforts for competence development are needed.

  • A Trilogy of Mass A=61 : Superdeformed Structures, Exotic Decay, and Isospin Symmetry

    • Three nuclei with mass number A=61 have been studied using four fusion-evaporation experiments carried out at the Oak Ridge, Argonne and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories. Normally deformed states in 61Ga were for the first time ever explored and in addition the experimental knowledge of the mirror nucleus 61Zn was extended. The two nuclei together provide the possibility to explore mirror symmetries and isospin breaking effects in medium-heavy nuclei. Moreover an indication of a prompt proton decay was observed in 61Ga which adds further complexity to the isospin symmetry studies. The normally deformed structures in the two nuclei are compared to the predictions from spherical shell-model calculations using different nuclear interactions. The comparison indicates the importance of the included subshells in the interaction and also the influence of the number of active particles in the calculations. High-spin states in 61Zn and 61Cu have been studied and the previously published level schemes have been greatly extended for both nuclei in the current analysis. In total thirteen rotational structures dominated by quadrupole transitions and five dominated by dipole transitions have been found in the two nuclei. Each structure is compared to predictions from cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations and associated with certain predicted configurations. The general agreement with the predictions is good but the results may be further enhanced if modifying the standard Nilsson parameters. Suggestions on how to improve the agreement are given and first results are also indicated in the thesis.

  • Classification of Superdeformed Bands in the Mass A~60 Region

    • The experimental knowledge of the Cu-61(29)32 and Zn-61(30)31 nuclei has been largely extended via the joint results from three experiments. The fusion-evaporation reaction used a Ar-36 beam and a Si-28 target foil to produce the two nuclei via the evaporation of either three protons (Cu-61) or two protons and a neutron (Zn-61). The experimental set-ups comprised the Ge-array GAMMASPHERE as well as neutron and charged-particle detectors placed around the target position. The resulting level schemes include around ten rotational superdeformed structures in each isotope. Most of them are linked to normally deformed states and in many cases spins and parities of the low-lying states in each structure have been determined. The collective structures are compared with results from configuration dependent Cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations. The different structures are in general well understood from the calculation but the results do also suggest modifications of the standard Nilsson parameters in the mass A similar to 60 region.

    • The Zn-61(30)31 nucleus has been studied via the combined data of two fusion-evaporation reaction experiments using a Ar-36 beam and a Si-28 target foil. The experimental setups involved the Ge array GAMMASPHERE and neutron and charged particle detectors placed around the target position. The resulting level scheme comprises about 120 excited states connected via some 180 gamma-ray transitions. In total, seven rotational structures were identified up to I similar to 25 or higher and compared with predictions from cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations.

    • A largely extended experimental knowledge of the Cu-61(29)32 nucleus has been obtained from three experiments. Excited states in Cu-61 were produced via the fusion-evaporation reaction Si-28(Ar-36, 3p)Cu-61. In addition to the Ge array GAMMASPHERE, neutron and charged-particle detectors placed around the target position were used for high-performance particle spectroscopy. The constructed level scheme includes more than 160 energy levels and 320 gamma-ray transitions belonging to both normally deformed as well as superdeformed rotational structures. The multipolarities have been determined for the gamma-ray transitions and as a result spin-parity assignments are given for nearly all energy levels. Experimental results in the normally deformed region are compared with predictions from large-scale shell model calculations. The collective structures are compared with results from cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations. The results reveal the need to modify the standard Nilsson parameters in the mass A similar to 60 region.

    • The Zn-61(30)31 isotope has been produced at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the fusion-evaporation reaction Ca-40(Mg-24, 2pn)Zn-61 at 104 MeV. The experimental set-up allowed gamma-rays to be detected in the CLARION Ge detector array in coincidence with the detection of recoiling nuclei in the focal plane at the end of the recoil mass spectrometer. This provides a unique identification of gamma-rays belonging to Zn-61. The excited states have been explored by means of recoil-gamma gamma coincidences, and the resulting decay scheme comprises almost 70 transitions. The data reveal numerous non-yrast states and suggest a revised spin and parity assignment for a previously observed superdeformed band. The resulting decay scheme is compared to predictions from different sets of large-scale shell model calculations.

  • Identification of Excited States in 61Ga: Mirror Nuclei in the Upper fp Shell

    • In the fusion-evaporation reaction Ca-40+Mg-24 at 104 MeV beam energy, excited states have been observed for the first time in the isotope Ga-31(61)30. The experimental setup comprised the Ge array CLARION, a recoil mass spectrometer and, in its focal plane, an ionization chamber. Five transitions in Ga-61 are identified, out of which a cascade of three transitions has been established by means of recoil-gammagamma coincidences. The strong transitions at 271 keV in Ga-61 and 124 keV in Zn-61 are viewed as the "mirror" 5/2(-)-->3/2(-) ground-state transitions. The rather large energy difference of 150 keV is suggested to arise from Coulomb monopole contributions. Shell-model calculations support this interpretation.

    • The Rare Isotope Spectroscopic INvestigation at GSI (RISING) project is a major pan‐European collaboration. Its physics aims are the studies of exotic nuclear matter with abnormal proton‐to‐neutron ratios compared with naturally occurring isotopes. RISING combines the FRagment Separator (FRS) which allows relativistic energies and projectile fragmentation reactions with EUROBALL Ge Cluster detectors for γ spectroscopic research. The RISING setup can be used in two different configurations. Either the nuclei of interest are investigated after being stopped or the heavy ions hit a secondary target at relativistic energies and the thereby occurring excitations are studied. For the latter case, MINIBALL Ge detectors and the HECTOR array are used in addition. Example achievements of the Fast Beam setup are presented and compared to various shell model calculations, while for the Stopped Beam setup initial results are shown.

  • Chemo- and Enantioselective Hydrogenations : The Struggle of Expanding the Substrate Scope of Iridium Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenations of Olefins

    • The asymmetric hydrogenation of olefins is a facile and popular method of reaching chiral products. Whereas ruthenium- and rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenations have a long history, the use of iridium in this area is new but fast-growing. Since the first chiral N,P-ligated iridium catalyst was created in the late 1990s, the growing pool of N,P ligands has filled up rapidly, but most have been tested with a limited range of standard olefins. To extract the full potential of these complexes, new methods using substrates having many possible applications must be developed. This thesis focuses on the iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of three different new substrate classes to yield very high conversions and enantiomeric excesses (ee's). As the use of fluorine has recently become common in many different fields of chemistry, the asymmetric reduction of fluoroolefins to reach chiral products having fluorine at the stereogenic centers is highly interesting. We studied this reaction and eventually obtained very high ee values and lower degree of defluorination (Paper I and Paper II). The hydrogenations of trifluoromethylated olefins to reach products useful in applications reaching from pharmaceuticals to additives in liquid crystal displays (LCDs) were also challenging, but fruitful (Paper III). As asymmetric hydrogenation usually demands differences in the substituents of the double bond, the highly selective reduction of 1,1-diaryl olefins having similar aryls give a new perspective on the broad scope of substrates that N,P-ligated iridium complexes can reduce selectively (paper IV).

Combination of the Gammasphere gamma-ray spectrometer and ancillary particle detection systems allowed for the connection of rotational bands to well-known, low-lying excited states in Zn-62, as well as spectroscopy of discrete high-spin states reaching excitation energies of E-x=42.5 MeV. Four well- or superdeformed bands in Zn-62 are characterized and described by means of cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations.

    • Following the fragmentation of a 550 MeV u(-1)primary beam of Ni-58, time-and energy-correlated gamma decays from isomeric states in neutron-deficient nuclei in the 1f(7/2) shell have been identified using the GSI fragment separator in combination with the RISING Ge-detector array. The results on isomers in the mirror pairs Ti-43(22)21-Sc-43(21)22 (I-pi = 3/2(+) and 19/2(-)), Cr-45(24)21-Sc-45(21)24 (I-pi = 3/2(+)) and V-45(23)22-Ti-45(22)23 (I-pi = 3/2(-)) are discussed in the framework of large scale pf and sdpf shell-model calculations, the former in conjunction with isospin symmetry breaking effects with emphasis on effective charges.

New gamma-ray transitions are added, and a confirmation of a previously suggested prompt proton decay from a rotational band in Ni-56 into the ground state of Co-55 is presented. The rotational bands in Ni-56 are discussed within the framework of cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations.

    • A new decay mode, the so called prompt proton decay, was discovered in 1998. It has since proven to be an important decay mechanism for several neutron deficient nuclei in the A similar to 60 region. To measure with high accuracy the energies and angular distributions of these protons, a state-of-the-art charged particle detector - LuWuSiA - was developed. It was first utilized during a fusion-evaporation reaction experiment performed at Argonne National Laboratory, U.S.A. In this contribution, the characteristics of the prompt proton decay are discussed along with the special features of LuWuSiA as well as a revisit to the prompt proton decay in Cu-58.

    • The combined data from three fusion-evaporation reaction experiments have been utilized to investigate the semi-magic nucleus Ni-58(28)30. To detect gamma rays in coincidence with evaporated particles, the Ge-detector array Gammasphere was used in conjunction with the charged-particle detectors Microball and LuWuSiA (the Lund Washington University Silicon Array), and a neutron detector array. The results yield a significantly extended level scheme of Ni-58 comprising some 340 gamma-ray transitions and include a total of at least 14 discrete particle decays into excited states of the daughter nuclei Fe-54 and Co-57. The level scheme is compared with large-scale shell-model calculations and cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations.

    • The two-body photodisintegration of He-3 has been investigated using tagged photons with energies from 14-31 MeV at MAX-lab in Lund, Sweden. The two-body breakup channel was unambiguously identified by the (nonsimultaneous) detection of both protons and deuterons. This approach was made feasible by the overdetermined kinematic situation afforded by the tagged-photon technique. Proton-and deuteron-energy spectra were measured using four silicon surface-barrier detector telescopes located at a laboratory angle of 90 degrees with respect to the incident photon-beam direction. Average statistical and systematic uncertainties of 5.7% and 6.6% in the differential cross section were obtained for 11 photon-energy bins with an average width of 1.2 MeV. The results are compared to previous experimental data measured at comparable photon energies as well as to the results of two recent Faddeev calculations which employ realistic potential models and take into account three-nucleon forces and final-state interactions. Both the accuracy and precision of the present data are improved over those obtained in the previous measurements. The data are in good agreement with most of the previous results, and favor the inclusion of three-nucleon forces in the calculations.

    • The average charge states of Pb-188 and No-252,No-254 ions in dilute helium gas were measured at the gas-filled recoil separator TASCA. Hydrogen gas was also used as a filling gas for measurements of the average charge state of No-254. Helium and hydrogen gases at pressures from 0.2 mbar to 2.0 mbar were used. A strong dependence of the average charge state on the pressure of the filling gases was observed for both, helium and hydrogen. The influence of this dependence, classically attributed to the so-called "density effect", on the performance of TASCA was investigated. The average charge states of No-254 ions were also measured in mixtures of helium and hydrogen gases at low gas pressures around 1.0 mbar. From the experimental results simple expressions for the prediction of average charge states of heavy ions moving in rarefied helium gas, hydrogen gas, and in their mixture were derived.     • Enkelt uttryckt är Samverkansinlärning (SI) en studiecirkel kopplat till en utmanande kurs. SI leds av en senior student som utformar läraktiviteter där studenterna arbetar i grupper med att förklara och förtydliga svårt kursmaterial. Målsättningen med SI, förutom förbättrade prestationer i den aktuella kursen, är att studenterna skall utveckla goda studiestrategier och bli mer självständiga i sitt lärande. Denna rapport behandlar SI-verksamheten vid Lunds universitet under läsåret 2019/20. Målsättningen är att läsaren skall få en god bild av hur SI bedrivs vid lärosätet och hur insatsen upplevs av deltagare och studentledare. Rapporten bygger dels på kvantitativa data – SI-närvaro samt närvaron kopplat till studenternas prestationer i SI-stödda kurser. Och dels på kvalitativa data från enkäter till deltagare och SI-ledare samt information frän metodhandledare och SI-koordinatorer.Under läsåret 2019/20 kompletterades undervisningen i 160 kurstillfällen av SI där totalt 235 studentledare ledde SI-pass. 4200 studenter vid universitetet deltog på passen under läsåret. Medelnärvaron var 25 % och 50 % av studenter med tillgång till SI provade på att besöka åtminstone ett pass. Dessa siffror betyder att SI-verksamheten vid Lunds universitet är en av de största vid lärosäten i Europa. SI-verksamheten följer också grundläggande SI-principer på ett bra sätt enligt deltagarna. Exempelvis på så sätt att deltagarna har ett stort inflytande över agendan på SI-passen och att arbetet med att förstå utmanande kursmaterial bedrivs genom arbete och diskussion i grupp. SI-ledaren ser till att arbetet går framåt genom att ställa frågor och uppmuntrardeltagarna att dela med sig av sina kunskaper till varandra. Studenternas drivkraft att gå på SI-passen är i huvudsak meningsorienterad genom att de vill få en bättre förståelse av ämnet och för att det är roligt att diskutera kursinnehåll med kurskamrater. Vad ger då deltagande på SI för närvarande studenter? Jämförelser av närvaro på SI och genomströmning på SI-stödd kurs antyder att chanserna att klara kursen vid ordinarie examination(er) ökar med ökad SI-närvaro. Deltagande studenter upplever dessutom i stor utsträckning att SI leder till att de bättre förstår vad som förväntas av dem i kursen, är ett effektivt stöd att ta sig fram i kursen, ökar intresset för ämnet och ger dem en djupare förståelse av kursinnehållet. Dessutom anser en stor andel avdeltagarna att de utvecklar generella färdigheter såsom problemlösning, kritiskt tänkande, lagarbete och presentation av akademiskt material inför andra. En betydande del av SI-deltagarna anger att de åtminstone till viss del de utvecklar sitt sätt att studera och förbättrar sitt akademiska självförtroende. Ca en fjärdedel av de svarande på enkäten anser att SI varit viktigt för att skaffa studiekamrater, vilket kan vara mycket betydelsefullt för att känna tillhörighet inom akademien och ge ytterligare motivation till fortsatta högre studier.De dominerande svarsteman på öppna enkätfrågor rörande vad som är bäst med SI samt vad som skiljer SI-pass från ordinarie undervisning är desamma för bägge frågorna. Det handlar om att deltagarna uppskattar diskussionen/samarbetet samt atmosfären och arbetsmiljön på passen. Vidare gillar studenterna fokus på djupare förståelse av kursinnehållet. På frågan vad man tycker kan förbättras med SI-passen anser en del av deltagarna att strukturen på passet ibland kan vara tydligare och att arbetet under passen ibland kan kännas ineffektivt.Aktiva SI-ledare och SI-ledaralumner i arbetslivet fick svara på enkäter rörande de färdigheter man tränar och utvecklar i sitt SI-arbete. Här framkom att de svarande generellt tyckte att de blivit bättre på ett flertal färdigheter inom områdena kommunikation, ledarskap och handhavande av grupper samt vissa personliga färdigheter. En stor majoritet av SI-ledaralumnerna ansåg dessutom SI-ledarskapet givit dem en fördel när de sökt jobb och att man haft god nytta av SI-färdigheterna i sitt yrkesverksamma liv. Enkätundersökningen avaktiva SI-ledare samt SI-ledaralumner vid Lunds Universitet var en del av en internationell undersökning där två andra SI-program vid North West University i Sydafrika och University of Missouri Kansas City ingick. Resultaten från enkäterna vid dessa lärosäten speglade resultaten från Lunds universitet. Således verkar SI-ledarna generellt vinna en hel del genom sin tjänstgöring, oavsett lärosäte och land, som de senare har nytta av i sitt yrkesverksamma liv.Under den andra hälften av vårterminen 2020 övergick SI-passen till att ges på distans pga Coronapandemin. Många metodhandledare och SI-ledare gjorde ett fantastiskt jobb med att snabbt ställa om verksamheten. Enkätsvar från deltagare på distans-SI visade att SI-passen var uppskattade och att fördelarna man fick från att delta motsvarade de som man får på reguljär sals-SI. Dock framträdde ett antal utmaningar. Närvaron var betydligt lägre på distans-SI jämfört med sals-SI. Mötena kändes ofta som lite mer tidsineffektiva när de gickpå distans, ledarna fick en svårare uppgift med att hålla reda på tekniken vid sidan av att leda SI-passet, och deltagarna/ledarna saknade den sociala dimensionen man får vid sals-SI med möjlighet att kunna snacka liteom annat och att kunna läsa av kroppsspråk. Möjligheten att prova på distans-SI vid Lunds universitet har varit berikande och gett inspiration till att utveckla konceptet. Distans SI bör även i mer normala tider kunna vara ett bra komplement till sals-SI vad gäller att stödja studenter i utmanande kurser. Speciellt vid distanskurser, men även för att stödja studenter som inte har möjlighet att delta på sals-SI, exempelvis pga föräldraskap, deltidsarbete, långa pendlingstider, mm mm.Under läsåret 2019/20 gjordes också en studie av läraktiviteter under SI-pass. Studien visade att de huvudsakliga aktiviteterna på SI-pass handlar om att förklara och tydliggöra det som är svårt i kursen. Men att man också avsätter betydande del av tiden för att få en djupare förståelse av det behandlade kursmaterialet genom analyserande och reflekterande aktiviteter.

    • Healthcare is often conducted by interprofessional teams. Research has shown that diverse groups with their own terminology and culture greatly influence collaboration and patient safety. Previous studies have focused on interhospital teams, and very little attention has been paid to team collaboration between intrahospital and prehospital care. Addressing this gap, the current study simulated a common and time-critical event for ambulance nurses (AN) that also required contact with a stroke specialist in a hospital. Today such consultations are usually conducted over the phone, this simulation added a video stream from the ambulance to the neurologist on call. The aim of this study was to explore interprofessional collaboration between AN’s and neurologists when introducing video-support in the prehospital stroke chain of care. The study took place in Western Sweden. The simulated sessions were video recorded, and the participants were interviewed after the simulation. The results indicate that video has a significant impact on collaboration and can help to facilitate better understanding among different professional groups. The participants found the video to be a valuable complement to verbal information. The result also showed challenges in the form of a loss of patient focused care. Both ANs and neurologists saw the video as benefiting patient safety.

  • Level structure of 92Rh: Implications for the Two-proton Decay of 94mAg

    • The 21+ isomer in 94Ag has recently been reported to have a two-proton decay branch to 92Rh. We have populated 92Rh through the 40Ca(58Ni,alphapn) reaction at 240 MeV, and have performed detailed spectroscopic measurements of the levels, finding new states and measuring angular distributions of gamma rays. We find no evidence for the states reported to be populated by the two-proton decay of 94Agm. The calculated Q-value for the two-proton decay implies that this process directly feeds low-lying yrast, or near-yrast, states in 92Rh, which is very difficult to reconcile with our observations. Several scenarios for the population of 92Rh are discussed, none of which appears to be satisfactory.
