  • Management of latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection: WHO guidelines for low tuberculosis burden countries
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: The European respiratory journal. - : European Respiratory Society (ERS). - 1399-3003 .- 0903-1936. ; 46:6, s. 1563-1576
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is characterised by the presence of immune responses to previously acquired Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection without clinical evidence of active tuberculosis (TB). Here we report evidence-based guidelines from the World Health Organization for a public health approach to the management of LTBI in high risk individuals in countries with high or middle upper income and TB incidence of <100 per 100 000 per year. The guidelines strongly recommend systematic testing and treatment of LTBI in people living with HIV, adult and child contacts of pulmonary TB cases, patients initiating anti-tumour necrosis factor treatment, patients receiving dialysis, patients preparing for organ or haematological transplantation, and patients with silicosis. In prisoners, healthcare workers, immigrants from high TB burden countries, homeless persons and illicit drug users, systematic testing and treatment of LTBI is conditionally recommended, according to TB epidemiology and resource availability. Either commercial interferon-gamma release assays or Mantoux tuberculin skin testing could be used to test for LTBI. Chest radiography should be performed before LTBI treatment to rule out active TB disease. Recommended treatment regimens for LTBI include: 6 or 9 month isoniazid; 12 week rifapentine plus isoniazid; 3–4 month isoniazid plus rifampicin; or 3–4 month rifampicin alone.

  • Estimation of cold plasma outflow during geomagnetic storms
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Geophysical Research - Space Physics. - 2169-9380 .- 2169-9402. ; 120:12, s. 10622-10639
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Low-energy ions of ionospheric origin constitute a significant contributor to the magnetospheric plasma population. Measuring cold ions is difficult though. Observations have to be done at sufficiently high altitudes and typically in regions of space where spacecraft attain a positive charge due to solar illumination. Cold ions are therefore shielded from the satellite particle detectors. Furthermore, spacecraft can only cover key regions of ion outflow during segments of their orbit, so additional complications arise if continuous longtime observations, such as during a geomagnetic storm, are needed. In this paper we suggest a new approach, based on a combination of synoptic observations and a novel technique to estimate the flux and total outflow during the various phases of geomagnetic storms. Our results indicate large variations in both outflow rates and transport throughout the storm. Prior to the storm main phase, outflow rates are moderate, and the cold ions are mainly emanating from moderately sized polar cap regions. Throughout the main phase of the storm, outflow rates increase and the polar cap source regions expand. Furthermore, faster transport, resulting from enhanced convection, leads to a much larger supply of cold ions to the near-Earth region during geomagnetic storms.

  • The influence of CO adsorption on the surface composition of cobalt/palladium alloys
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Surface Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0039-6028. ; 646, s. 31-36
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Segregation induced by the adsorption of gas phase species can strongly influence the composition of bimetallic surfaces and can therefore play an important role in influencing heterogeneous catalytic reactions. The addition of palladium to cobalt catalysts has been shown to promote Fischer Tropsch catalysis. We investigate the adsorption of CO onto bimetallic CoPd surfaces on Pd{111} using a combination of reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy and medium energy ion scattering. The vibrational frequency of adsorbed CO provides crucial information on the adsorption sites adopted by CO and medium energy ion scattering probes the surface composition before and after CO exposure. We show that cobalt segregation is induced by CO adsorption and rationalise these observations in terms of the strength of adsorption of CO in various surface adsorption sites.

  • Filters for Spatial Point Processes
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization. - : Society for Industrial & Applied Mathematics (SIAM). - 0363-0129 .- 1095-7138. ; 48:4, s. 2275-2295
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study the general problem of estimating a "hidden" point process X, given the realization of an "observed" point process Y (possibly defined in different spaces) with known joint distribution. We characterize the posterior distribution of X under marginal Poisson and Gauss-Poisson priors and when the transformation from X to Y includes thinning, displacement, and augmentation with extra points. These results are then applied in a filtering context when the hidden process evolves in discrete time in a Markovian fashion. The dynamics of X considered are general enough for many target tracking applications.
