  • Dissociative recombination of N2H+ : Evidence for fracture of the N-N bond
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal. - : American Astronomical Society. - 0004-637X .- 1538-4357. ; 609:1, s. 459-464
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Branching ratios and absolute cross sections have been measured for the dissociative recombination of N2H+ using the CRYRING ion storage ring. It has been found that the channel N2H+ + e(-) --> N-2 + H accounts for only 36% of the total reaction and that the branching into the other exoergic pathway, N2H+ + e(-) --> NH + N, consequently amounts to 64%. The cross section of the reaction could be fitted by the expression sigma = (2.4 +/- 0.4) x 10(-16) E-1.04 +/- 0.02 cm(2), which leads to a thermal reaction rate of k(T) = (1.0 +/- 0.2) x 10(-7)(T/300)(-0.51 +/- 0.02) cm(3) s(-1), in favorable agreement with previous flowing afterglow Langmuir probe measurements at room temperature, although our temperature dependence is very different. The implications of these measurements for the chemistry of interstellar clouds are discussed. A standard model calculation for a dark cloud predicts a slight increase of N2H+ in the dark clouds but a five- to sevenfold increase of the NH concentration as steady state is reached.

  • Extraordinary branching ratios in astrophysically important dissociative recombination reactions
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Faraday discussions. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 1359-6640 .- 1364-5498. ; 127, s. 425-437
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Branching ratios of the dissociative recombination reactions of the astrophysically relevant ions DCO+, N2H+ and DOCO+ ( as substitute for HOCO+) have been measured using the CRYRING storage ring at the Manne Siegbahn Laboratory at the University of Stockholm, Sweden. For DCO+, the channel leading to D and CO was by far the most important one ( branching ratio 0.88), only small contributions of the CD+O and OD+C product pathways ( branching ratios 0.06 each) were recorded. In the case of N2H+ the surprising result of a break-up of the N-N bond to N and NH ( branching ratio 0.64) was found with the branching ratio of the N-2+H product channel therefore displaying a branching ratio of only 0.36. In the case of DOCO+, the three-body break-up into D+O+CO dominated ( branching ratio 0.68), whereas the contribution of the CO2+H channel was only minute (0.05). The remaining share ( branching ratio 0.27) was taken by the pathway leading to OH+CO. For the dissociative recombination of N2H+ and DOCO+ also absolute reaction cross sections were obtained in the collisional energy range between 0 and 1 eV. From these cross sections it was possible to work out the thermal rate constants, which were found to be k(T) = 1.0 +/- 0.1 x 10(-7) (T/300 K)(-0.51 +/- 0.02) cm(3) s(-1) and k(T) = 1.2 +/- 0.1 x 10(-6) (T/300 K)(-0.64 +/- 0.02) cm(3) s(-1) for N2H+ and DOCO+, respectively.

  • A Radio Frequency Identification System for accurate indoor localization
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proc. of IEEE Intl. Conf. on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP). - 9781457705380 ; , s. 1777-1780
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we present a novel Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system for accurate indoor localization. The system is composed of a standard Ultra High Frequency (UHF), ISO-18006C compliant RFID reader, a large set of standard passive RFID tags whose locations are known, and a newly developed tag-like RFID component that is attached to the items that need to be localized. The new semi-passive component, referred to as sensatag (sense-a-tag), has a dual functionality wherein it can sense the communication between the reader and standard tags which are in its proximity, and also communicate with the reader like standard tags using backscatter modulation. Based on the information conveyed by the sensatags to the reader, localization algorithms based on binary sensor principles can be developed. We present results from real measurements that show the accuracy of the proposed system.

The system is composed of a standard ultra high frequency (UHF) ISO-18000-6C compliant RFID reader, a set of standard passive RFID tags whose locations are known, and a newly developed tag-like RFID component, which is attached to the items that need to be localized. The new semi-passive component, referred to as sensatag (sense-a-tag), has a dual functionality: it can sense and decode communication between the reader and standard tags in its proximity, and can communicate with the reader like standard tags using backscatter modulation. Based on the information conveyed by the sensatags to the reader, localization algorithms based on binary sensor principles can be developed. We conduct a number of experiments in a laboratory to quantify the performance of our system, including two real applications, one finding the exact placement of items on shelves, and the other estimating the direction of item movement.

  • Selection of Sensors for Efficient Transmitter Localization
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IEEE INFOCOM 2020 - IEEE conference on computer communications. - : IEEE. ; , s. 2410-2419
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We address the problem of localizing an (illegal) transmitter using a distributed set of sensors. Our focus is on developing techniques that perform the transmitter localization in an efficient manner, wherein the efficiency is defined in terms of the number of sensors used to localize. Localization of illegal transmitters is an important problem which arises in many important applications, e.g., in patrolling of shared spectrum systems for any unauthorized users. Localization of transmitters is generally done based on observations from a deployed set of sensors with limited resources, thus it is imperative to design techniques that minimize the sensors' energy resources. In this paper, we design greedy approximation algorithms for the optimization problem of selecting a given number of sensors in order to maximize an appropriately defined objective function of localization accuracy. The obvious greedy algorithm delivers a constant-factor approximation only for the special case of two hypotheses (potential locations). For the general case of multiple hypotheses, we design a greedy algorithm based on an appropriate auxiliary objective function-and show that it delivers a provably approximate solution for the general case. We develop techniques to significantly reduce the time complexity of the designed algorithms, by incorporating certain observations and reasonable assumptions. We evaluate our techniques over multiple simulation platforms, including an indoor as well as an outdoor testbed, and demonstrate the effectiveness of our designed techniques-our techniques easily outperform prior and other approaches by up to 50-60% in large-scale simulations.

  • Resonant ion-pair formation in electron collisions with rovibrationally cold H-3(+)
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A. Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics. - 1050-2947 .- 1094-1622. ; 69:2, s. 022713-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Experimental and theoretical cross sections for the resonant ion-pair formation (RIP) in electron collisions with rovibrationally cold H-3(+) ions are presented. Absolute cross sections for the RIP process producing H- ions are measured for center-of-mass energies between 2-20 eV using the CRYRING, heavy-ion storage ring. Theoretical cross sections are obtained using wave-packet propagation on both one- and two-dimensional models of relevant diabatic-potential energy surfaces and couplings of H-3(+) and H-3.

  • Integrating national Red Lists for prioritising conservation actions for European butterflies
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Insect Conservation. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1366-638X .- 1572-9753. ; 23:2, s. 301-330
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Red Lists are very valuable tools in nature conservation at global, continental and (sub-) national scales. In an attempt to prioritise conservation actions for European butterflies, we compiled a database with species lists and Red Lists of all European countries, including the Macaronesian archipelagos (Azores, Madeira and Canary Islands). In total, we compiled national species lists for 42 countries and national Red Lists for 34 of these. The most species-rich countries in Europe are Italy, Russia and France with more than 250 species each. Endemic species are mainly found on the Macaronesian archipelagos and on the Mediterranean islands. By attributing numerical values proportionate to the threat statuses in the different national Red List categories, we calculated a mean Red List value for every country (cRLV) and a weighted Red List value for every species (wsRLV) using the square root of the country’s area as a weighting factor. Countries with the highest cRLV were industrialised (NW) European countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Denmark, whereas large Mediterranean countries such as Spain and Italy had the lowest cRLV. Species for which a Red List assessment was available in at least two European countries and with a relatively high wsRLV (≥ 50) are Colias myrmidone, Pseudochazara orestes, Tomares nogelii, Colias chrysotheme and Coenonympha oedippus. We compared these wsRLVs with the species statuses on the European Red List to identify possible mismatches. We discuss how this complementary method can help to prioritise butterfly conservation on the continental and/or the (sub-)national scale.

  • Particle filtering for indoor RFID tag tracking
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proc. of IEEE Statistical Signal Processing Workshop (SSP). - 9781457705694 ; , s. 193-196
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we propose a particle filtering (PF) method for indoor tracking using radio frequency identification (RFID) based on aggregated binary measurements. We use an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) RFID system that is composed of a standard RFID reader, a large set of standard passive tags whose locations are known, and a newly designed, special semi-passive tag attached to an object that is tracked. This semi-passive tag has the dual ability to sense the backscatter communication between the reader and other passive tags which are in its proximity and to communicate this sensed information to the reader using backscatter modulation. We refer to this tag as a sense-a-tag (ST). Thus, the ST can provide the reader with information that can be used to determine the kinematic parameters of the object on which the ST is attached. We demonstrate the performance of the method with data obtained in a laboratory environment.
