    • This document describes the design and implementation of the 5GENESIS Monitoring & Analytics (M&A) framework in its Release B, developed within Task T3.3 of the project work plan. M&A Release B leverages and extends M&A Release A, which has been documented in the previous Deliverable D3.5 [1]. In particular, we present new features and enhancements introduced in this new Release compared to the Release A. We also report some examples of usage of the M&A framework, in order to showcase its integrated in the 5GENESIS Reference Architecture.

    • This deliverable presents the second cycle of trials and experimentation activities executed over 5GENESIS facilities. The document is the continuation of deliverable D6.1, in the sense that it captures tests carried out over the evolved infrastructures hosting 5GENESIS facilities following the methodology defined in D6.1. In this document 8 main KPIs and 4 application specific validation trials achieved, under 123 experiments that performed in total. The tests focus more on i) the evolved 5G infrastructure deployments that includes radio and core elements in non-standalone (NSA) deployment configurations based on commercial and open implementations, and ii) the use of Open 5GENESIS Suite for the execution of the tests.

    • Earlier paper have demonstrated that the achievable throughput of OFDM systems can benefit significantly from individual modulation/transmit power selection on a per sub-carrier basis according to the actual gain of individual sub-carriers (so called dynamic OFDM scheme). Usage of such approach requires, however, providing support for additional functionality like: acquisition of the subcarrier gains, signaling of the used modulation types between the sender and receiver, etc. Therefore dynamic OFDM is actively pursued for future radio interfaces, rather then considered as extension of existing OFDM based standards. In this paper we present for the first time a proposal how the widely accepted IEEE 802.11a/g systems might be extended to support the dynamic OFDM in a singleuser (point-to-point) setting while assuring backward compatibility. We address these issues by a) presenting a set of protocol modifications; and b) a performance evaluation of the suggested extension (referred further on to as single-user 802.11 DYN mode) demonstrating the potential of performance improvement.

Although 802.11n already includes advanced MAC and PHY features, i.e., frame aggregation and MIMO transmissions, our performance evaluation demonstrates that a further improvement is achievable by incorporating dynamic OFDM.

  • Multi-User OFDMA Frame Aggregation for Future Wireless Local Area Networking

    • State-of-the-art wireless local area networking enables frame aggregation as approach to increase MAC efficiency. However, frame aggregation is limited to the aggregation of packets destined for the same station. In order to serve different stations, the access point still has to contend for the channel multiple times. In this paper we propose and evaluate a novel approach that enables multi-user frame aggregation. We combine this concept with channel-dependent OFDMA resource assignments, yielding a higher PHY efficiency (by exploiting multi-user diversity and instantaneous channel state information) as well as a higher MAC efficiency. The downside to this approach is the increase in protocol overhead to enable such multi-user OFDMA frame aggregation. However, we show that the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art 802.11n for different packet sizes and stations to be served.

    • This paper describes the pathway towards the realisation of a 5G Facility that will allow the validation of the major 5G Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). It reflects the approach that the 5GENESIS consortium will adopt in this direction. More precisely, it describes the key design principles of such Facility as well as the targeted use cases for the KPIs validation. The adopted approach for the Facility realisation includes the design of a common implementation blueprint that will be instantiated in five Platforms distributed across Europe. To maximise the diversity and the efficiency of the Facility, complementary performance objectives have been selected for the Platforms, while specific characteristics from different vertical industries have been allocated to each of them.
