  • Prerequisites and Conditions for Socially Sustainable Manufacturing in Europe’s Future Factories – results overview from the SO SMART Project
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 2194-5365 .- 2194-5357. ; 490, s. 319-330

    • This paper provides an overview of the EU project SO SMART(Socially Sustainable Manufacturing for the Factories of the Future), acoordinated support action (CSA) project. SO SMART examined the conditionsin Europe for creating socially sustainable workplaces in the manufacturingsector, where factories flourish along with their social environment. The projectwas international (with partners from five countries), multidisciplinary andparticipatory, involving participation of several science domain experts and awider community of academic and industry beneficiaries who participated inpanels, workshops, conference events and an online forum created specificallyfor the project.

  • Perspectives on Open Science and scientific data sharing : an interdisciplinary workshop
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: J ANTHROPOL SCI. - 1827-4765. ; 92, s. 179-200
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Looking at Open Science and Open Data from a broad perspective. This is the idea behind "Scientific data sharing: an interdisciplinary workshop", an initiative designed to foster dialogue between scholars from different scientific domains which was organized by the Istituto Italiano di Antropologia in Anagni, Italy, 2-4 September 2013. We here report summaries of the presentations and discussions at the meeting. They deal with four sets of issues: (i) setting a common framework, a general discussion of open data principles, values and opportunities; (ii) insights into scientific practices, a view of the way in which the open data movement is developing in a variety of scientific domains (biology, psychology, epidemiology and archaeology); (iii) a case study of human genomics, which was a trail-blazer in data sharing, and which encapsulates the tension that can occur between large-scale data sharing and one of the boundaries of openness, the protection of individual data; (iv) open science and the public, based on a round table discussion about the public communication of science and the societal implications of open science. There were three proposals for the planning of further interdisciplinary initiatives on open science. Firstly, there is a need to integrate top-down initiatives by governments, institutions and journals with bottom-up approaches from the scientific community. Secondly, more should be done to popularize the societal benefits of open science, not only in providing the evidence needed by citizens to draw their own conclusions on scientific issues that are of concern to them, but also explaining the direct benefits of data sharing in areas such as the control of infectious disease. Finally, introducing arguments from social sciences and humanities in the educational dissemination of open data may help students become more profoundly engaged with Open Science and look at science from a broader perspective.

  • Influence in the EU : Measuring Mutual Support
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Common Market Studies. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0021-9886 .- 1468-5965. ; 56:2, s. 212-229
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We assess a country's influence on decision-making in the Council not merely on the basis of the number of its votes, but based on a novel measure that also takes into account the voting behaviour of other countries. A country that is likely to receive support from other countries will be more influential than a country with more votes, but which tends to be isolated in its policy preferences. We apply the methodology to a novel dataset and use it to assess whether changes in voting weights in the Lisbon Treaty influence the odds of whether countries get what they want when decisions are taken in the Council. We show that large Member States are less successful in getting support from others for their positions, while the changes in voting weights increase large Member States' influence, but statistically significant decrease it only for a subgroup of small Member States.

  • Mapping the Current Social Sustainability Practices of the European Manufacturing Industry
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Swedish Production Symposium 2014, SPS14. - 9789198097412
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A survey among European production companies was carriedout to map the level of understanding and action regarding social sustainability practices. In order to determine whether sufficient measures are in place to tackle upcoming demographic challenges. The study explored topics of labour practices, human capital development, job design, work-lifebalance, talent management, employee turnover & satisfaction management and stakeholder and community practices. The results indicate that although many companies report having a strategy in place for social sustainability, practices in place appear to only address the fundamental hygiene factors of the workplace, rather than focusing strategically on combating demographicschallenges.

  • The Missing Entrepreneurs 2014 : Policies for Inclusive Entrepreneurship in Europe
  • 2014
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • OECD's LEED Programme and the European Commission's DG on Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion recently published the second book as part of their programme of work on inclusive entrepreneurship. The Missing Entrepreneurs 2014 examines how public policies at national and local levels can support job creation by encouraging business start-ups and self-employment by people from disadvantaged or under-represented social groups in entrepreneurship. It shows that there is substantial potential to combat unemployment and stimulate social inclusion by promoting entrepreneurship in populations such as women, youth, seniors, the unemployed, and migrants, if the specific problems they face can be addressed and if entrepreneurship policies are opened up to all.
