  • Screen printed digital circuits based on vertical organicelectrochemical transistors
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Flexible and Printed Electronics. - : IOP Publishing. - 2058-8585. ; 2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Vertical organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) have been manufactured solely using screenprinting. The OECTs are based on PEDOT:PSS (poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrene sulfonic acid)), which defines the active material for both the transistor channel and the gateelectrode. The resulting vertical OECT devices and circuits exhibit low-voltage operation, relativelyfast switching, small footprint and high manufacturing yield; the last three parameters are explainedby the reliance of the transistor configuration on a robust structure in which the electrolyte verticallybridges the bottom channel and the top gate electrode. Two different architectures of the verticalOECT have been manufactured, characterized and evaluated in parallel throughout this report. Inaddition to the experimental work, SPICE models enabling simulations of standalone OECTs andOECT-based circuits have been developed. Our findings may pave the way for fully integrated, lowvoltageoperating and printed signal processing systems integrated with e.g. printed batteries, solarcells, sensors and communication interfaces. Such technology can then serve a low-cost basetechnology for the internet of things, smart packaging and home diagnostics applications.

  • Backward-forward motion compensated prediction
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of ACIVS 2002 (Advanced Concepts for Intelligent Vision Systems), Ghent, Belgium, September 9-11, 2002. ; , s. 260-267
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents new methods for use of dense motion fields for motion compensation of interlaced video. The motion is estimated using previously decoded field-images. An initial motion compensated prediction is produced using the assumption that the motion is predictable in time. The motion estimation algorithm is phase-based and uses two or three field-images to achieve motion estimates with sub-pixel accuracy. To handle non-constant motion and the specific characteristics of the field-image to be coded, the initially predicted image is refined using forward motion compensation, based on block-matching. Tests show that this approach achieves higher PSNR than forward block-based motion estimation, when coding the residual with the same coder. The subjective performance is also better.

  • Source Coding Rate Control for Gilbert-Elliott Channel
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: RVK 05,2005. - Linköping : FOI. ; , s. 543-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We consider the problem of choosing the rate for a source coder when transmitting lossy-compressed data in real-time over a channel with time-varying rate. The goal for the rate selection is to obtain a low average distortion while obeying a real-time constraint. We formulate the real-time constraint in terms of a limited buffer size. A few strategies for rate-control are suggested and evaluated for a Gilbert-Elliott type channel model. The results are also compared to a theoretical upper bound on performance for a rate-control algorithm working with constraints on buffer size.

  • Improving angle-of-view for a 1-D sensing application by using a 2-D optical sensor in "cylindrical" mode
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: IEEE Sensors Letters. - : IEEE. - 2475-1472. ; 5:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To further develop a low-power low-cost optical motion detector for use with traffic detection under dark and daylight conditions, we have developed and verified a procedure to use a Near Sensor Image Processing (NSIP) programmable 2-D optical sensor in a "1-D mode" to achieve the effect of using a cylindrical lens, thus improving the angle-of-view (AOV), the sensitivity, and usefulness of the sensor. Using an existing 256 x 256 element sensor in an innovative way, the AOV was increased from 0.4 to 21.3 in the vertical direction while also improving the sensitivity. The details of the sensor hardware architecture are described in detail and pseudo code for programming the sensor is discussed. The results were used to demonstrate the extraction of Local Extreme Points (LEPs) used for Time-To-Impact (TTI) calculations to estimate the speed of an approaching vehicle.

  • A Model for Mobility-Based Communication in Ad Hoc Networks
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: The Third Swedish National Computer Networking Workshop,2005.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We introduce the concept of mobility-based communication in ad hoc networks, meaning that the packet transport is performed mainly by the nodes' movement. We outline a model for such networks, utilizing a stochastic model for the geographical location of the nodes. A test case is defined in which three strategies for packet forwarding are presented and evaluated.

  • Mind Your Own Business : Understanding and characterizing value created by consumers in a digital economy
  • 2020
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In the context of what is commonly referred to as consumer-centric digital economy, personal data has become the new currency which is utilized by consumers to be granted access to seemingly “free apps” within so-called digital zero-price markets. Simultaneously, there are consumers, known as “content creators”, who can generate million-dollar revenues annually. The current understanding of how consumers create and capture value within this new digital economy is scarce and more research is needed to systematically build a basis for creating an understanding of value creation and capture in the consumer-centric digital economy, based on a consumer perspective. The purpose of this dissertation is consequently to explore how consumers create and capture value within a consumer-centric digital economy. The explorative study also serves to obtain an initial overview of the phenomenon and the widely dispersed literature which spans different research fields. The collected data constitute more than 500 articles in combination with empirical data collected from websites.Based on the current literature, central concepts related to consumer-centric digital economy are explained. These include for instance Web 2.0, user-generated content and the consumerto- business relationship. The different concepts are discussed in relation to each other and a trend analysis shows that these concepts are on the rise and have become increasingly popular. The results show that consumers within the digital economy may take different roles, and some create value as business-oriented consumers (i.e., consumers who have a commercial interest). For instance, they make a business out of their participation in the digital economy. Examples are YouTubers, bloggers or creators in virtual worlds such as Second Life. Another, probably larger category is characterized as traditional consumers, for instance they participate in the digital economy through their use of seemingly “free” apps but do not reap any direct monetary benefits. By sharing their personal data, they take part in value creation in a more passive way. The findings also indicate that the level of control, e.g. determined by whether or not value is created within the digital platform, may characterize the prerequisites for value capture. Based on this, a taxonomy for value creation and value capture by consumers in the digital economy is developed. The study also identifies different business model types for business-oriented consumers.

  • Towards a Taxonomy of E-commerce : Characterizing Content Creator-Based Business Models
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Technology Innovation Management Review. - Ottawa, Canada : Carleton University. - 1927-0321. ; 9:10, s. 62-77
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Currently, new business models can be observed in content creator-based e-commerce. The research on e-commerce has grown rapidly and new concepts have emerged such as social commerce, platforms, and user-generated content. However, no overarching perspective has yet been formulated for distinguishing new content creator-based business models within e-commerce. The aim of this paper is therefore to characterize content creator-based business models by formulating a taxonomy of e-commerce based on a structured literature review of the concepts mentioned above. The results of our study point toward eight types of content creator-based business models. Our paper outlines theoretical and practical implications for the emerging phenomenon of content creator-based business, which we refer to as intellectual commerce. In addition, we describe 19 concepts related to Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and e-commerce.

  • Real-Time Communication Systems based on Taut Strings
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Communications and Networks. - : IEEE. - 1229-2370 .- 1976-5541. ; 20:2, s. 207-218
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We consider buffered real-time communication over channels with time-dependent capacities which are known in advance. The real-time constraint is imposed in terms of limited transmission time between sender and receiver. For a network consisting of a single channel it is shown that there is a coding rate strategy, geometrically characterized as a taut string, which minimizes the average distortion with respect to all convex distortionrate functions. Utilizing the taut string characterization further, an algorithm that computes the optimal coding rate strategy is provided. We then consider more general networks with several connected channels in parallel or series with intermediate buffers. It is shown that also for these networks there is a coding rate strategy, geometrically characterized as a taut string, which minimizes the average distortion with respect to all convex distortion-rate functions. The optimal offline strategy provides a benchmark for the evaluation of different coding rate strategies. Further, it guides us in the construction of a simple but rather efficient strategy for channels in the online setting which alternates between a good and a bad state.

  • High-Gain Logic Inverters based on Multiple Screen-Printed Organic Electrochemical Transistors
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Advanced Materials Technologies. - : John Wiley and Sons Inc. - 2365-709X. ; 7:10, s. 2101642-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Organic electronic circuits based on organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) are attracting great attention due to their printability, flexibility, and low voltage operation. Inverters are the building blocks of digital logic circuits (e.g., NAND gates) and analog circuits (e.g., amplifiers). However, utilizing OECTs in electronic logic circuits is challenging due to the resulting low voltage gain and low output voltage levels. Hence, inverters capable of operating at relatively low supply voltages, yet offering high voltage gain and larger output voltage windows than the respective input voltage window are desired. Herein, inverters realized from poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate-based OECTs are designed and explored, resulting in logic inverters exhibiting high voltage gains, enlarged output voltage windows, and tunable switching points. The inverter designs are based on multiple screen-printed OECTs and a resistor ladder, where one OECT is the driving transistor while one or two additional OECTs are used as variable resistors in the resistor ladder. The inverters’ performances are investigated in terms of voltage gain, output voltage levels, and switching point. Inverters, operating at +/−2.5 V supply voltage and an input voltage window of 1 V, that can achieve an output voltage window with ∼110% increment and a voltage gain up to 42 are demonstrated. © 2022 The Authors.

  • Fast, low-complex, non-contact motion encoder based on the NSIP concept
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: IS and T International Symposium on Electronic Imaging Science and Technology. - : Society for Imaging Science and Technology. ; , s. 91-95
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We describe the implementation of a non-contact motion encoder based on the Near-Sensor Image Processing (NSIP) concept. Rather than computing image displacements between frames we search for LEP stability as used successfully in a previously published Time-to-Impact detector. A LEP is a single pixel feature that is tracked during its motion. It is found that this results in a non-complex and fast implementation. As with other NSIP-based solutions, high dynamic range is obtained as the sensor adapts itself to the lighting conditions. © 2017, Society for Imaging Science and Technology.
