  • Long-range angular correlations on the near and away side in p-Pb collisions at root S-NN=5.02 TeV
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters. Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 719:1-3, s. 29-41
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Angular correlations between charged trigger and associated particles are measured by the ALICE detector in p-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV for transverse momentum ranges within 0.5 < P-T,P-assoc < P-T,P-trig < 4 GeV/c. The correlations are measured over two units of pseudorapidity and full azimuthal angle in different intervals of event multiplicity, and expressed as associated yield per trigger particle. Two long-range ridge-like structures, one on the near side and one on the away side, are observed when the per-trigger yield obtained in low-multiplicity events is subtracted from the one in high-multiplicity events. The excess on the near-side is qualitatively similar to that recently reported by the CMS Collaboration, while the excess on the away-side is reported for the first time. The two-ridge structure projected onto azimuthal angle is quantified with the second and third Fourier coefficients as well as by near-side and away-side yields and widths. The yields on the near side and on the away side are equal within the uncertainties for all studied event multiplicity and p(T) bins, and the widths show no significant evolution with event multiplicity or p(T). These findings suggest that the near-side ridge is accompanied by an essentially identical away-side ridge. (c) 2013 CERN. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Measurement of prompt J/psi and beauty hadron production cross sections at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; :11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ALICE experiment at the LHC has studied J/psi production at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV through its electron pair decay on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity L-int = 5.6 nb(-1). The fraction of J/psi from the decay of long-lived beauty hadrons was determined for J/psi candidates with transverse momentum p(t) > 1,3 GeV/c and rapidity vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9. The cross section for prompt J/psi mesons, i.e. directly produced J/psi and prompt decays of heavier charmonium states such as the psi(2S) and chi(c) resonances, is sigma(prompt J/psi) (p(t) > 1.3 GeV/c, vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9) = 8.3 +/- 0.8(stat.) +/- 1.1 (syst.)(-1.4)(+1.5) (syst. pol.) mu b. The cross section for the production of b-hadrons decaying to J/psi with p(t) > 1.3 GeV/c and vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9 is a sigma(J/psi <- hB) (p(t) > 1.3 GeV/c, vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9) = 1.46 +/- 0.38 (stat.)(-0.32)(+0.26) (syst.) mu b. The results are compared to QCD model predictions. The shape of the p(t) and y distributions of b-quarks predicted by perturbative QCD model calculations are used to extrapolate the measured cross section to derive the b (b) over bar pair total cross section and d sigma/dy at mid-rapidity.

  • Underlying Event measurements in pp collisions at root s=0.9 and 7 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; :7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present measurements of Underlying Event observables in pp collisions at root s = 0 : 9 and 7 TeV. The analysis is performed as a function of the highest charged-particle transverse momentum p(T),L-T in the event. Different regions are defined with respect to the azimuthal direction of the leading (highest transverse momentum) track: Toward, Transverse and Away. The Toward and Away regions collect the fragmentation products of the hardest partonic interaction. The Transverse region is expected to be most sensitive to the Underlying Event activity. The study is performed with charged particles above three different p(T) thresholds: 0.15, 0.5 and 1.0 GeV/c. In the Transverse region we observe an increase in the multiplicity of a factor 2-3 between the lower and higher collision energies, depending on the track p(T) threshold considered. Data are compared to PYTHIA 6.4, PYTHIA 8.1 and PHOJET. On average, all models considered underestimate the multiplicity and summed p(T) in the Transverse region by about 10-30%.

  • Integrating Requirements Engineering with Software Development - A Research Abstract
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: ICB Research Reports. - 1860-2770. ; :46
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Software development companies operating in market-driven domains need to deliver new and appealing software products at an increasing rate in order to stay competitive. This requires fast and efficient development of software for which the requirements are based on ever-changing market demands. Agile development claims to achieve increased development efficiency by performing the requirements engineering (RE) activities concurrently with design, planning and testing in an integrated fashion. However, coordination and communication is often reported as a challenge both for agile and for traditional RE practices. Increased insight into the factors affected by integrating RE may allow tailoring the degree of RE integration to suit specific project context, e.g. size, rate of requirements change, domain etc., and thereby support increased efficiency in software development. The aim of this research is to develop methods for assessing the level of RE integration and techniques for improving the integration of requirements. The research is performed in collaboration with industry and the developed methods and techniques will be empirically evaluated in an industrial setting.

  • Platelet receptor and clotting factor polymorphisms as genetic risk factors for thromboembolic complications in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Pharmacogenetics. - 0960-314X .- 1473-561X. ; 13:5, s. 253-8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is an immune mediated adverse reaction to heparin treatment often associated with limb- and/or life-threatening thromboembolic complications (TECs). Presently, no prognostic marker has been identified that allows differentiation between mildly (isolated thrombocytopenia) and severely (TECs) affected patients. This study assesses the impact of platelet glycoprotein- and clotting factor polymorphisms in HIT-patients with isolated thrombocytopenia compared to HIT-patients with TECs. Sixty-three HIT-patients with isolated thrombocytopenia and 79 HIT-patients with HIT-related TECs were genotyped for GPIIb-IIIa polymorphisms (HPA-1, HPA-3), GPIa-IIa polymorphisms (HPA-5, GPIaC807T), GPIb-IX-V polymorphisms (HPA-2, Kozak-5, VNTR), and clotting factor polymorphisms (FV-Leiden R506Q, prothrombin PT-G20210A and MTHFR C677T). Women more often presented with TECs than men (P = 0.04). No differences in genotype frequencies could be seen on comparing HIT-patients with and without TECs. Analysing men and women separately, the C allele of the Kozak polymorphism was overrepresented in men who developed TECs (P = 0.034). The enhanced risk of women to develop HIT-associated TECs remains unexplained but it is potentially important in view of recent data on sex-hormone related changes of haemostasis. There was no correlation between platelet glycoprotein- and clotting factor polymorphisms and the risk to develop HIT-associated TECs. An association between the development of TECs and the Kozak-5C allele could be seen among male patients. However, this would need to be assessed in further larger studies. Most likely, the high levels of thrombin generation during acute HIT are so procoagulant that less pronounced risk factors such as polymorphisms are overshadowed.

  • Spatially Coupled Serially Concatenated Codes: Performance Evaluation and VLSI Design Tradeoffs
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Regular Papers. - 1549-8328. ; 69:5, s. 1962-1975
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Spatially coupled serially concatenated codes (SC-SCCs) are constructed by coupling several classical turbo-like component codes. The resulting spatially coupled codes provide a close-to-capacity performance and low error floor, which have attracted a lot of interest in the past few years. The aim of this paper is to perform a comprehensive design space exploration to reveal different aspects of SC-SCCs, which is missing in the literature. More specifically, we investigate the effect of block length, coupling memory, decoding window size, and number of iterations on the decoding performance, complexity, latency, and throughput of SC-SCCs. To this end, we propose two decoding algorithms for the SC-SCCs: block-wise and window-wise decoders. For these, we present VLSI architectural templates and explore them based on building blocks implemented in 12 nm FinFET technology. Linking architectural templates with the new algorithms, we demonstrate various tradeoffs between throughput, silicon area, latency, and decoding performance.

  • Quantitative In Vivo Imaging of the Androgen Receptor Axis Reveals Degree of Prostate Cancer Radiotherapy Response
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Molecular cancer research : MCR. - 1557-3125. ; 21:4, s. 1-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Non-invasive biomarkers for androgen receptor (AR) pathway activation are urgently needed to better monitor patient response to prostate cancer (PCa) therapies. AR is a critical driver and mediator of resistance of PCa but currently available non-invasive PCa biomarkers to monitor AR activity are discordant with downstream AR pathway activity. External beam radiotherapy (EBRT) remains a common treatment for all stages of PCa, and DNA damage induced by EBRT upregulates AR pathway activity to promote therapeutic resistance. [89Zr]11B6-PET is a novel modality targeting prostate-specific protein human kallikrein 2 (hK2), which is a surrogate biomarker for AR activity. Here, we studied if [&sup89;Zr]11B6-PET can accurately assess EBRT-induced AR activity. Genetic and human PCa mouse models received EBRT (2-50 Gy) and treatment response was monitored by [89Zr]11B6-PET/CT. Radiotracer uptake and expression of AR and AR target genes was quantified in resected tissue. EBRT increased AR pathway activity and [&sup89;Zr]11B6 uptake in LNCaP-AR and 22RV1 tumors. EBRT increased prostate-specific [&sup89;Zr]11B6 uptake in PCa-bearing mice (Hi-Myc x Pb_KLK2) with no significant changes in uptake in healthy (Pb_KLK2) mice, and this correlated with hK2 protein levels. Implications: hK2 expression in PCa tissue is a proxy of EBRT-induced AR activity that can non-invasively be detected using [&sup89;Zr]11B6-PET; further clinical evaluation of hK2-PET for monitoring response and development of resistance to EBRT in real time is warranted.
