  • Isotopic cross sections of fragmentation residues produced by light projectiles on carbon near
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - 2469-9993 .- 2469-9985. ; 105:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We measured 135 cross sections of residual nuclei produced in fragmentation reactions of C12, N14, and O13−16,20,22 projectiles impinging on a carbon target at kinetic energies of near 400A MeV, most of them for the first time, with the RB3/LAND setup at the GSI facility in Darmstadt (Germany). The use of this state-of-the-art experimental setup in combination with the inverse kinematics technique gave the full identification in atomic and mass numbers of fragmentation residues with a high precision. The cross sections of these residues were determined with uncertainties below 20% for most of the cases. These data are compared to other previous measurements with stable isotopes and are also used to benchmark different model calculations.

  • Properties of the CsI(Tl) detector elements of the CALIFA detector
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002. ; 940, s. 393-404
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the R3B experiment at FAIR, charged particles with energies up to 600 MeV and forward boosted γ-rays with energies up to 20 MeV need to be detected in scattering experiments. Calorimeters for nuclear physics experiments of this kind, using relativistic radioactive ion beams, require high energy resolution and high efficiency for simultaneous detection of strongly Doppler shifted γ-rays and high-energy charged particles. A calorimeter design that can meet these requirements, using CsI(Tl) scintillators, results in detector elements that may exhibit light output variations with crystal depth, which can limit the attainable resolution. In this paper we present results from a systematic study of 478 detector modules of CALIFA, the R3B calorimeter, in order to determine and minimize such variations. To facilitate further systematic studies we also present results for the total absorption length of the scintillation light, using spectrophotometry, light crosstalk between adjacent detector modules, and surface topography of the CsI(Tl) crystals from atomic force microscopy.

  • Reactions with radioactive beams and development of scintillator-based detector systems

    • An experiment on elastic scattering of 15 C on 208 Pb at an energy of 65 MeVwas performed at ISOLDE (CERN) exploiting the advantages of the ISOL te-chinique. The measurement showed in increase of the reaction cross section to3035 mb with respect to 12 C, confirming the results obtained at 80 MeV/u. Mea-surements to characterise and develop detector modules for the CALIFA setupwas performed for the R 3 B experiment at FAIR. Light output characteristics of478 detector modules of the CALIFA Barrel section were measured as a partthis work in order to investigate the correlation between resolution and non-uniformity. For this set of crystals the average resolution was found to be 5.2%(FWHM) at E γ = 1275 keV. Further investigations also done in this work showthat the inhomogeneity in the Tl dopant distribution contributes ∼0.5%, andthe noise in the read-out chain with .0.1% to that number. The most importantcontribution to variations in the resolution was found to be from non-uniformlight collection due to the geometry of the modules. The APD light read-outsensors were also investigated and found to be stable below 24.8 ◦ C using a gaincorrection algorithm. Energy add-back and light cross-talk were investigated. It was found that a closest-neighbor add-back algorithm recovers 14.7% of theevents for E γ = 662 keV and 65% of the events for E γ = 1460 keV, while thelight cross-talk contributes .0.03% to the photo peak. The attenuation lengthof the emission light of the scintillators was also determined and found to be34.6 ± 4.5 cm. In addition the micro facet distribution for a polished and alapped sample was measured using atomic force microscopy to produce look-uptables for GEANT4 simulations of light transport. Simulations of light outputnon-uniformity were performed for different configurations of lapped surfacesof a CALIFA detector module. The simulations reproduced the general trendof the measurement where the non-uniformity decreased with increasing lappedarea, although the exact values for the non-uniformity were not reproduced. Asensitivity test for the simulated light-output non-uniformity with respect todifferent input parameters was also performed. The non-uniformity was foundto be most sensitive to the reflectivity of the reflector foil while the sensitivityto the other parameters was less prominent.

  • Knockdown of the α5 laminin chain affects differentiation of colorectal cancer cells and their sensitivity to chemotherapy
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Biochimie. - : Elsevier BV. - 0300-9084 .- 1638-6183. ; 174, s. 107-116
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The interaction of tumor cells with the extracellular matrix (ECM) may affect the rate of cancer progression and metastasis. One of the major components of ECM are laminins, the heterotrimeric glycoproteins consisting of α-, β-, and γ-chains (αβγ). Laminins interact with their cell surface receptors and, thus, regulate multiple cellular processes. In this work, we demonstrate that shRNA-mediated knockdown of the α5 laminin chain results in Wnt- and mTORC1-dependent partial dedifferentiation of colorectal cancer cells. Furthermore, we showed that this dedifferentiation involved activation of ER-stress signaling, pathway promoting the sensitivity of cells to 5-fluorouracil.
